bsjkki Posted December 4, 2017 Posted December 4, 2017 As part of his visit to Utah, President Trump visited with President Eyring and President Nelson as they toured Welfare Square. https://www.deseretnews.com/article/900005101/trump-pushing-hatch-to-run-again-calls-romney-good-man-at-welfare-square.html Trump and LDS leaders spoke briefly to the media seated next to a Christmas tree and the American and Utah flags with a large painting of Jesus holding the hand of a destitute man on the wall behind them. "This is very exciting for me. I know so many people that are in your church, the Latter-day Saints. The job you’ve done is beyond anything you could think of — taking care of people the way you take care of people and the respect that you have all over the world," the president said. Trump then asked church leaders to tell reporters about the work the church has done to help people around the world. Welfare Square is just one example of what the church does in 120 countries worldwide, President Eyring said. "The idea being we think we have an obligation to God to look out for the people who without our aid have tragedy in their lives, either poverty or hunger," he said. President Nelson told Trump that he was in China last week and Chinese LDS Church members were providing school supplies for children who didn't have them. "Well, that was very nice," Trump said, adding "formerly a great heart surgeon, one of the best," regarding President Nelson. 1

Gray Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Good for Trump to see new parts of the country before his ankle monitor is installed.

Calm Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 That one I haven't seen. Number 1 in the series I have seen with a caption about checking for evil spirits. 1

Tacenda Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 (edited) http://news.gallup.com/poll/225380/trump-approval-highest-among-mormons-lowest-among-muslims.aspx?g_source=Politics&g_medium=newsfeed&g_campaign=tiles I saw this on another board. What do you think? It seems like a complete turnaround from when in the elections before Trump was elected, the Deseret News came out against Trump, probably a first for them to get political. And then to see that LDS members have the highest percentage of support for Donald Trump. Edited January 13, 2018 by Tacenda

I don't think we would have won if they had split up the Protestant/Other Christian Group into their constituent groups. My money would be on the Evangelicals winning on that point. Still not a happy statistic. Maybe it is time to go Jehovah's Witness style and ask God if he wants us to stop voting?
Calm Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 I likedto see the questions as I don't know of any Mormon who has changed their opinion of him, either negative or positive save for negatives becoming more negative.

I just think LDS are mostly Republicans, but as you probably know, at one time in the early church, LDS were mostly Democrats. Why I even heard the other day from Greg Prince on a podcast, that Pres. Packer was a Democrat, I think in his earlier years. So I think LDS were left with no other choice...Hillary just had so much baggage. But I'm sure it's not easy seeing, hearing the news about Pres. Trump. I hope in the end there is a good reason that it all went down like it did.

Even most people I know who support him justify it by saying they would rather vote for their idiot than the other party's idiot. Edited January 16, 2018 by Danzo 1

It was such an about face for me that I asked. In between these people had hope in McMullen, but a post starting going around, convincing them not to vote third party, so they felt compelled to vote for the lesser of two evils. The whole situation seems to have made it so they feel they had to justify their support of him. Most of my Utah friends post nothing about politics now even if they had often done it before this last presidential election. Edited January 16, 2018 by Rain

I seem to always be going against the tide here in Utah. I don't want any enemies amongst my family members, friends or neighbors.

His opponent was not an idiot. I do not think she was a particularly nice person nor did I think she would make a good President but she was not stupidly non self-aware nor do i think she would have spent all day watching TV and playing golf and getting mad about what people said about her all day. I am guessing that in 20 years you will have a hard time finding people who admit they voted for our current president.
