I doubt there'd be any hits if our FT meeting ended up on YouTube.  But we had a gentleman get up at about 10 to the hour.  We were still sitting there listening to him, well those who could, at about 25 past the hour.  He went on about how the liberals have ruined America.  I would describe more but I want to get to talking about my wife in SS.   Anyway, he did very little besides teach non-church doctrine and no mic was cut off.  Of course he's a former bishop, male, and a grownup so that wouldn't have happened no matter what he said. 

So, his "testimony" cut into SS time.  THe guy who taught seemed a little bothered by that.  But we all arrived and he put on the board, as instructed by the manual, three items: 

1.  Milk strippings

2.  misspelled name

3.  And whatever else it was.

Wife and I sat quietly as "apostates" were what amounted to demonized throughout the meeting.  the teacher seemed rushed so he didn't leave a lot of room for comment, plus he kind of likes to hear himself talk.  At the end, he got after the people in the country for being mean to Trump.  Was upset about universal restrooms, SSM and SS rights, and abortion rights.  We were already out of time but he was not getting to the end, so wife raised her hand and he stopped to let her speak, to his credit. 

IT was mic drop worthy for sure.  She had to run to young women's right then so she left the room after she made her point.  My best summary of what she said:

"The stories that were mentioned about people leaving aren't complete.  THey don't take into account the story from the perspective of the person being vilified, which is too bad.  As Pres Uchtdorf said a couple of years ago, people's stories are always more complicated then we give them credit for.  THat we want to speak for others and simplify their stories creates more of an us versus them mentality that I'm not comfortable with.  I realize you are just doing, in this lesson, as you are told, but there are too many problems caused by us treating those who leave as devils.  THe mockery (which was plenty) of those who I consider loved ones and friends in this room was upsetting to sit here quietly and tolerate.  I think we shouldn't be so quick to judge those who leave.  We should be far better at suffering with them through difficulties and accepting that in some cases their concerns are legitimate." 

She left.   And he finished with his "testimony" that we should be able to judge because we sit in a particularly unique and special place as members.  And that the stories in the lesson manual are true full accounts because our prophet is inspired.  Amen. 

He got the last word, of course.  but she said it all in a very brief comment. Indeed, I don't think I did her comment justice. 

I went to priesthood and sent her a text thanking her for what I couldn't have done so nicely.  I was pretty upset during his ranting.  The lady next to me told me afterward she felt annoyed by me because I couldn't sit still while the man teaching, who she said, put a lot of effort and sought the spirit in his lesson, was going on. 

Anyway, why is no one's ward as crazy sounding as mine?

Our ward is often crazy but yesterday was a beautiful fast and testimony meeting. The testimonies were heartfelt, Christ centered, loving, and covered a wide range of what I would consider TBM-NOMish types. But they all coexisted and it was lovely.

We have SS lesson 24 in 2 weeks.

ETA- I find the 25 minute "testimony" to be extremely rude and inappropriate. FAR worse than a 3 minute testimony from a 12 year old girl.

stemelbow, it sounds like your ward needs one of our moderators here to regulate the rule...NO Politics allowed !!!. It happens rarely in my ward , but I get VERY uncomfortable when political topics are brought up and the one speaking just assumes everyone in the room is on the same page.

For testimonies, the leader conducting should show forth an increase in love ie. tough love and cut the speaker off physically or electronically if he goes over more than a couple of minutes. Perhaps give a cue to the organist to start the intro to the closing song.

No, not waiting 60 years to see miracles.  I have seen many.  But what you quoted happens after you are dead, quite clearly in the quote you seemingly did not read before you said you were waiting for this event to happen

Ergo you must be waiting to die.   Simple logic- it has nothing to do with miracles

Therefore you want to die.

You are so intent on being negative about religion you don't even make sense most of the time.  It gives you no credibility whatsoever when your posts don't make sense.  I mean that in a nice way, of course.
