stemelbow, it sounds like your ward needs one of our moderators here to regulate the rule...NO Politics allowed !!!. It happens rarely in my ward , but I get VERY uncomfortable when political topics are brought up and the one speaking just assumes everyone in the room is on the same page.

For testimonies, the leader conducting should show forth an increase in love ie. tough love and cut the speaker off physically or electronically if he goes over more than a couple of minutes. Perhaps give a cue to the organist to start the intro to the closing song.

No moderator necessary just a Bishop that will do it.

We had lesson 24 in my class too.  When the teacher told the story of Marsh and the milk strippings (which the teacher described as "cheese"), I raised my hand and said "While the manual gives the short version, we should remember that there were more reasons than just the milk strippings for Thomas B. Marsh leaving."

My Gosp Doc teacher mentioned the milk strippings but then went on to concentrate on the other reasons and circumstances that led to Marsh's disaffection... We had a good discussion.  I think the Gosp Doc teachers have everything to do with how the information is or is not presented... and whether we get a complete picture of events.  Our teacher does his homework... to our benefit.
