I speak at least once a month in some ward or other, for HC,  plus doing lessons in various places when I am invited.  I work from an outline of just a few remarks on the topic I want to cover and then print out all my resources so I can shuffle and slice and dice on the fly because I never know if I will have to speak for 5 minutes or 40 minutes.

I don't have the ability to shuffle like that on any electronic device, going back and forth between the outline to keep me on track and the quotes I want to use- I suppose I could multi-window it all but then the images are too tiny without opening and closing windows.

The trick for me is when I have to speak in a Spanish ward because I do not speak Spanish.   In that case I usually have my resources printed out from the Span. Scriptures or Conference talks so that the translator only has to worry about what I say verbally which is usually quite convoluted anyway.   

No way I could juggle that around on a device.

But as we all have, I have seen a GA get up with only his scrips and speak for an hour translating his own material and no notes and give a great talk.

Whoosh!  That just blows me away when they do that!

perhaps this is an appropriate place to mention that I was in elders quorum meeting a couple of weeks ago and was somewhat amazed when I looked around and observed there was not a single hard copy of the scriptures in the room. Each and every man in the class was using a smartphone or tablet or some other device. My, how things have changed in a very short period of time. 

Bear in mind that elders quorums these days include men who used to comprise ward high priest groups.

Though I embraced early on the use of an electronic device in lieu of printed material at Church, I’ve never found a practical way to use a smartphone when giving a talk. I’ll either print out the whole thing on paper or print out an outline. I don’t even like to look up scriptures at the pulpit when I’m speaking. I’ll copy off beforehand the passages I’ll be citing.

Not all of us own printers. I don't. And I did my entire PhD paper free. Instead of photocopying, I just scanned documents, including images taken from microforms.

Why necromancy when you could still use your position as a newspaper reporter to find out if there is an actual General Authority set of scriptures.  Can you survey them and see what they like to use?

ETA:  I am willing to bet there is a project in the works to greatly expand the footnotes and the indexes/references.  It would not be a problem since they can easily be handled electronically.

ETA 2:  And also combine all the indexes into one (i.e. blending Topical Guide and Bible Dictionary and all into an harmonious whole).  Each entry will be tagged with the BD or TG symbol.  Each entry can be limited to only 3 lines.  If there are more to be seen, simply tap the "more" button.  That way, the index can be scrolled in a more comprehensive manner.

You can get your own re-bound edition for like $350 bucks.   That has been identified as the "GA" set of scriptures

Anyone can get them

Just read the dang thread.  GA's use them because they are lighter and easier for travel.

This is no great mystery or some weird edition- they take apart the regular scriptures and re-bind all the reference materials into another volume so you can use it if you like, or leave it at home if you just want a light set of scriptures.

It's a company that does it for you for the extra bucks.
