Hi all,

I just signed up and thought I would share a little about myself. I am 40 years old (nearly 41), married, and the father of 3 wonderful girls (Calee - 9, Addisyn - 6, Brooklyn - 3). I am an evangelical Christian in Michigan. I am on my final course to finish a Bachelor Degree in Religion / Christian Worldview at Luther Rice College & Seminary. Lord willing, I will begin working on an MA in Apologetics in the Fall. I look forward to engaging in civil discussions with the folks here. Thanks for allowing non-Mormons to contribute to this forum.

Welcome, I'm an active LDS that has issues with some church history.  How did you find us?  If you don't mind me asking.  They have some amazing discussion on here discussing our differences with the Evangelical Christians.  But you may get wore out.  In fact they seem to wash and repeat over and over but they may need some new perspective.

Indeed, welcome!  The more perspectives the better -- I just hope you're not one of those who come on board to wag their fingers at them Mormonites about how they're going to Hell in a Handbasket, and then trot out twenty tired, worn-out, and long-discredited arguments to support their finger-wagging.  You don't sound like one of those, so that's good.  I hadn't been aware that one could get a degree in Apologetics!  Sounds interesting!

By the way, I'm been active LDS since converting in 1966, and been tossing words around in this forum for the past eight or ten years, I forget how long exactly.

Thanks. I did not join this discussion group to preach at anyone. It is possible that I am not aware of arguments that have been legitimately discredited. If I engage in these types of arguments I ask you all to be patient with me. I may just need to be educated on your responses. You will not find me being intentionally offensive, rude, arrogant, condescending, etc. I think that if you cannot discuss issues of eternal truth in a Christian spirit, then you shouldn't be discussing them at all.

Welcome Steve and congratulations on finishing your degree. The one thing nice about education is that no one can take it away from you.

Thanks. It has been a long road as I work full-time and can only be a part-time student.

Welcome, Steve.

I hope you enjoy yourself here.  We appreciate sincere questions and those who stand firm on the truths they know.  Today being Easter is a wonderful day for new beginnings and new life.  We as a people rejoice in Christ, preach Christ and his crucifixion and resurrection.

The Board has had a lot of Evangelical participants in the past.  Many of us have served missions where we have met many more Evangelicals.  Not too many of us are interested in debate about scriptures or doctrines.  We have learned that a scripture bash is a good way to lose the Spirit and result in bad feelings.  If you have questions, please ask.  I am not promising that we can answer to your satisfaction, but we will do our best.

Thank you for your interest and kindly sharing of information about you and your family.  I have a granddaughter who is named Addyson, Addy for short.  God's blessings upon each of you.

Thanks for the welcoming spirit of your post. I know how it feels to get into mud-slinging discussions about the Bible and doctrine. I have no interest in that. I am hoping to better understand modern Mormons and Mormonism through my interactions here.

Is like this post if you had enough pays to enable that feature.  I look forward to liking future posts when you have enough.

I hear you.  It took me six years to get a four year degree.

Thank you. I've noticed that I haven't been able to like any posts yet either.

Good to see that you are not a Calvinist.

Lol. I am not a Calvinist, but I have often been edified by the ministry of Calvinists. I am surprised to see a Latter-day Saint familiar with Calvinism. I'm interested in your story.

Hi Steve nice to have you! Actually a number of people here are fairly well versed in non LDS writings and theologies. I myself quite enjoy the writings of NT Wright and also enjoy reading Patristics and Eastern Orthodox related material. One thing you will find from almost every LDS poster here is an extremely strong aversion to Calvinism. I have several theories why this is but do not want to bore you. Suffice it to say that LDS theology is very Arminian in nature (at least in my opinion).

I am glad to hear that many of you read non LDS writings and theologies. I have spent a lot of time studying Calvinism/Arminianism. Feel free to share your thoughts on why the LDS folks here are strongly opposed to Calvinism.

I have a low opinion of Calvinist doctrine, I believe it has done serious damage to Protestant theology- and believe Calvin should not have a place of honor among the Reformers. I did however enjoy Mark Driscoll when he ran Mars Hill in Seattle, he had some good sermons.

I am not your typical Latter Day Saint- and am not a member of the organization HQ's in SLC anymore. Though I fellowship mostly with the RLDS Restoration Branches Movement, my personal beliefs, theology, and scriptural interpretations don't really fit any category except "Unorthodox". I believe the Hebrew Roots Movement is inspired by the Spirit- so my wife and I keep the Appointed Times, rest on Saturday, and refrain from non-food (pork, shellfish, scavenger birds, etc...) I have an undeniable testimony of the truth, theologically and historically, of the Book of Mormon which no man can steal.

I also believe Taoism in it's most basic, primitive form is good life philosophy and perhaps the remnants of teachings of ancient far east servants of God. So I read and quote from the "Tao Te Ching" sometimes.
