Now, how would you describe someone who is excited about you losing that thing because it will make their life better. Isn't "self centered" a reasonable adjective? Ahh, I see your point. I guess as long as I've been on boards that are facing loss of family relationships as they once were, I do forget about the still believing family member. And they too lose that common belief with their loved one. So both parties need to think outside the bounds of their beliefs and agree to disagree and keep that loving relationship intact. 3

But don't really agree that the person is self centered, where's the empathy? Put your self in their shoes. Imagine how you might feel. Let's see. Here's a person who has lost faith in the Church, something that he put a lot of time, money and effort into. That's genuinely sad. But instead of just adjusting his life to move along his chosen path, he sues the Church in the hope of causing many others, including the people he loves, to lose their faith in the Church as well. This will make many of them just as miserable as he is. Which is more selfish, to just move on leaving others to believe and be happy in it, or increase the unhappiness and bring one's friends and relatives down to one's level of disbelief? Misery loves company. If I lost my faith in the Church, I imagine that I would be very sad. But why would I want to spread the misery around? 3

Quote the seven thousand years of [the earth's] continuance, or its temporal existence I'd say this is pretty definitive as to the particularity of the seven thousand years in question. Doesn't interfere at all with the notion that the earth's full age is 4.5 billion years. 1

I agree, I was referring to a post above and replying back to bluebell for what I said to someone else concerning those with waited breath for the suit to go through. Tried explaining that it's people that thoroughly belief the church is false and want their families back, in that context. They totally blame the church, but see how that is selfish if it makes their family happy. I conceded in a later post.

I don't know, but I know some critics were even critical of him. I hope he's able to ride off into the sunset and put this all behind him and find some semblance of happiness after losing practically everything, well IMO, family is almost everything. VideoGameJunkie Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Tom Philips was the one who revealed he had received the 2nd anointing.

I guess I found out about it a few years ago, and wondered how one would go about getting it. Apparently it is not being handed out like penny candy. And if you can't get it, what's the utility of knowing about it?
VideoGameJunkie Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 I'd be worried to get the 2nd anointing in this life because I know I would still sin afterwards.
Calm Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Well, it is certainly no guarantee of either enduring in or understanding of the Gospel.

Perhaps you can understand why so many have such animosity towards the church after prop 8. Your statement just reinforced a good reason to sue the church.

You think the church has the doctrine on ssm that it does because it makes the church's life better? You think the church is excited when you lose something you love because it makes their life better that you have lost it? I'm not sure how that makes sense. 3

It would make the church's life easier if it accepted gay marriage, definitely. So much angst and heartache and so many problems would disappear practically overnight. Which is why it seems odd to me to say that the church is being self centered when it teaches doctrine against SSM. 2
