Sanpitch Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) This story seems to becoming nation wide and those in Utah are probably familiar with it but for the others here it is on a church related web site. This happens to be my brothers granddaughters so I'm very interested in it: http://www.ldsliving.com/Returned-Missionary-Miraculously-Survives-Vicious-Knife-Attack-There-Were-Angels-There-Helping/s/80140 Actually the incident was in SLC, the girls were from Syracuse, Utah. Sanpitch Posted October 2, 2015 Author Posted October 2, 2015 (edited) Not sure how much personal info I should give but I think this statement is very good. Statement from their grandfather about the event:"Breann had another 2 hour interview with Salt Lake detectives. They thought she wouldremember more now that some time has passed. After words they told Kerrie and (her father)some interesting things. They found the guy's "bindle" or bag used by homeless orhobos. They determined his purpose that night was to kill someone. As Breann retold thestory all four, three men and one women, were wiping away tears. They told how badly thegirls had beaten the guy. After the body had been examined they could not believe the girlscould do that much damage to him. They said Kayli had really beat the poor guy. Theydidn't know how she could have taken the shelf from the rack. It was put together in sucha was that the top shelf could not be taken off. The dead guy's body was beaten andbruised and his back had lots of claw marks on it. They said, "we have pictures to prove it".One officer opened his wallet and handed Breann $200. The female detective said, " I'mnot Mormon, but I know those girls had help from a higher power. She said, "I have seeneverything and I mean everything, but I have never seen anything like this". Breann told methat she felt the man's arms and hand tighten as he intended to draw the knife across herthroat. It was at that moment the slug from the officers gun struck him. Maybe I alreadytold you this, but (father) asked an officer where the guy was shot. He said the wholeevent with that officer was a textbook perfect scenario that he was sure would beused to train other officers. Then he put his finger on his nose bridge and said he wasshot right there. He was shot with a hollow point. No part of the bullet exited the guyshead. They determined that all the blood in the apartment belonged to Breann. Edited October 3, 2015 by Sanpitch 1
JulieM Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Terrifying! What strength and courage they showed and have. Good for them! I'm so glad they weren't hurt more seriously and I hope they can recover mentally and emotionally as that's got to be tough now.
Robert F. Smith Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 The girls used good judgment and it saved their lives.
Tacenda Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 When I watched this on the first newscast it didn't go near into the detail, amazing that Breann lived through that, it's a miracle. Thanks for sharing Sanpitch, it sure makes me wonder even with my faith crisis, about the angels around us.
Sanpitch Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) I was sent a picture looking down the stairs towards the wall at the bottom, there was a hole in the wall but not big enough for her head to go through. If I wasn't such a sceptic I'd almost start to wonder about angels. But then I think of a niece, a young mother with about five small kids who developed cancer and eventual died. Where were the angels then? Is their help limited? That was Judy's daughter Tacenda. Ed to add: Died after about a thousand prayers on her behalf. Edited October 3, 2015 by Sanpitch

I sure hope Breann and Kayli can get their life back and not fear certain aspects in life, but pretty sure with this life changing experience, as it was for Elizabeth Smart, they will probably go on to help others in the future, like Elizabeth. I have so much respect for strong women like them. Edited October 3, 2015 by Tacenda
oremites Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 The girls used good judgment and it saved their lives. I'm just curious, what do you see as the good judgment that saved their lives?
strappinglad Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) You will notice that , according to the story, the killer was able to inflict some damage but unable to score direct hits. Any angels were doing the minimum to keep the girls safe until reinforcements arrived. As for Sanpitch's niece , who's to say there were not angels around to ease her transition. They follow the Lord's will after all. If there is a bone to pick, one will have to look elsewhere. With about 50,000 non age related deaths every day, when He does intervene , there must be a pretty good reason ! Edited October 3, 2015 by strappinglad

I'm aware of at least three other cases of young mothers dying and leaving very young kids without a mother, to me it's so sad, one of the saddest. Edited October 3, 2015 by Sanpitch

strappinglad Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 As might not have come across , I have no good answers as to why some young mothers die and others live. We don't even want to talk about all the young mothers in Asia and Africa who die in unspeakable ways daily. Why is the mother in Idaho worth more than the one in Nairobi? My only hope is that no ones death adversely affects their eternal salvation and that there are good reasons why a few are preserved when so many are not. 2
Popular Post bluebell Posted October 3, 2015 Popular Post Posted October 3, 2015 This makes me think of the epilogue on the movie The Cokeville Miracle. It says, in regards to miracles saving people from harm (paraphrasing), that there have been many throughout history who have been confronted with evil and not been spared the consequences. Not every leper was cured and not every dead brought back to life when Jesus walked the earth either. It is impossible to know why some are protected and others are not, but when God does spare someone we should acknowledge His hand and give thanks. 5

So, when Jimmy Carter is dealing with Guinea Worm in Africa, he doesn't complain that God is not intervening. He realizes that God depends on us to do what we can -- http://www.cartercenter.org/health/guinea_worm/index.html . When the role is counted up yonder, in Valholl, the complainers won't be there. 1

My prayers to not let my wife suffer inordinately with her cancer seemed to have been answered, and my prayer telling Heavenly Father that I thought she had suffered enough and should now be allowed to come home was answered within thirty minutes. And yet others suffer well past the point of what some might call reasonable. I don't doubt God's existence or good will, despite the suffering in the world, for I have had sufficient evidence that He is real and watches over us. But I don't understand why some get what they ask for and others who are equally worthy don't get it. I will eventually understand it, I am sure, so for the moment I just have faith that what He does is for the good of all of His children.

It was not to be, even my childlike faith during a PH blessing she received. This non answer in prayer may have led to my faith crisis. Or maybe she knew in the pre existance that that would be her life, maybe a lesson for others on how to be proactive in trying to prevent it. This according to a Reading I had by my niece who is a Medium. Still figuring that out. Edited October 4, 2015 by Tacenda 1

From D&C 42:43 And whosoever among you are asick, and have not faith to be healed, but believe, shall be bnourished with all tenderness, with herbs and mild cfood, and that not by the hand of an enemy. 44 And the elders of the church, two or more, shall be called, and shall pray for and alay their bhands upon them in my name; and if they cdie they shall ddieunto me, and if they live they shall live unto me. 45 Thou shalt alive together in blove, insomuch that thou shalt cweep for the loss of them that die, and more especially for those that have not dhope of a glorious resurrection. 46 And it shall come to pass that those that die in me shall not ataste of bdeath, for it shall be csweet unto them; 47 And they that die not in me, wo unto them, for their death is bitter. 48 And again, it shall come to pass that he that hath afaith in me to be bhealed, and is not cappointed unto death, shall be dhealed. 49 He who hath faith to see shall see. 50 He who hath faith to hear shall hear. 51 The lame who hath faith to leap shall leap. 52 And they who have not faith to do these things, but believe in me, have apower to become my bsons; and inasmuch as they break not my laws thou shaltcbear their infirmities.
