Calm Posted April 23, 2015 Posted April 23, 2015 He is at home now: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865627014/Elder-Perry-hospitalized-for-breathing-difficulties.html
Kenngo1969 Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I love Elder Perry. He's the very personification of optimism and cheer.
BookofMormonLuvr Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Elder Scott has been hospitalized also...Elder Perry has thyroid cancerElder Scott had gastrointestinal bleeding.
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Both apostles sound in bad shape. Unfortunately no one can live forever, and they've both been blessed with long productive lives, but it looks like we may be getting new apostles soon. It would make better sense if apostles could retire if they get too old or too weak and sick.
BookofMormonLuvr Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 I hope this doesn't sound insensitive, but I have to ask...You have lived 92 good years, traveled the world, helped people come closer to Christ- why get radiation? Why not call it a live well lived, and move on to your next stage of eternal progression?

Why not call it a live well lived, and move on to your next stage of eternal progression?Thyroid cancer is usually easily and successfully treated. It is not one of those situations where the cure is almost worse than the disease.I don't see why someone should be denied or forego treatment based solely on their age. If they are otherwise healthy and there is a fix for the situation, shouldn't one be able to choose that? Or should we cut off health care after some abitrarily chosen age?
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 It definitely is starting to seem like we will see the passing of some apostles within the next several years. And addition of new apostles!

I said nothing of denying treatment. I was just pondering- if you know you have lived a good life, and are pretty sure you have finished the race well, why not just allow yourself to drift off into eternity and rest? Why do we humans fight and scratch for every last breath?
VideoGameJunkie Posted April 24, 2015 Posted April 24, 2015 Will we have a black or Hispanic apostle soon do you think?
BookofMormonLuvr Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 Will we have a black or Hispanic apostle soon do you think? No.

Damien the Leper Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Will we have a black or Hispanic apostle soon do you think? No. The LDS church will embrace SSM before allowing an non-white male into the Quorum.

Why suffer needlessly? http://www.cancer.org/cancer/thyroidcancer/detailedguide/thyroid-cancer-treating-radioactive-iodine It is more than likely a quality of life decision rather than extending it.
Mystery Meat Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 No. The LDS church will embrace SSM before allowing an non-white male into the Quorum. Well that was hateful.
Garden Girl Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 No. The LDS church will embrace SSM before allowing an non-white male into the Quorum. Well that was hateful. Valentinus...Don't kid yourself... We have blacks coming into the Seventy, along with Asian, Hispanic, etc etc... It may take a while to happen, but it will happen. GG
Calm Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 There is a Brazilian President of the Seventies...is that one or two steps away for the Quorum of Apostles? Looks like at least a third of the 1st Quorum are nonwhite (nonEuropean heritage) according to their names.
Damien the Leper Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Well that was hateful.Given the track record thus far...The ban on blacks and the priesthood was about ignorance and bigotry. No apologetic rationalization has sufficed for a logically thinking sentient being.

It may take a while to happen, but it will happen. GGI'm not. Just because one is an auxiliary leader does not mean they'll become a general authority. Lets be real.I won't be holding my breath for a Ghanaian or Brazilian apostle. If it happens within the next decade then all I can say is it's about time.
Calm Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I'm not. Just because one is an auxiliary leader does not mean they'll become a general authority. Seventies are General Authories: https://www.lds.org/church/leaders?lang=eng

Damien the Leper Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Yeah let's give some one a job because their race instead of their qualifications. That always works out so well. Therefore God has not decided that His church is to be run by only 55+ year old white men. God is wiser and better than that. He will never degrade His church to such juvenile limitations.
Damien the Leper Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 Seventies are General Authories: https://www.lds.org/church/leaders?lang=engCFR. Prove without loose interpretive language that they are the same. If the D&C explicitly makes and substantiates your claim then I'll withdraw. Any other argument is insufficient and unworthy of consideration.
Damien the Leper Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 If one wants to split hairs then the presidents of Seventy might be GA. However, there is lack of evidence to support such a notion if one were to consider the story of Samuel Smith.
