Ordain Women Leader Loses Appeal?

Recommended Posts

Well, she never had much appeal for me...

Pahoran

Me, either - a bit homely if you ask me. Perhaps her husband doesn't think so.

She now gets to appeal to the First Presidency and in a couple months or so we'll see that her appeal to them has been lost as well. Ho hum.

Obvious joke already made, my work here is already done. I guess she can only hope the First Presidency finds her appeal appealing.

They won't.

Seriously, stop judging women by their appearance. It is especially loathsome to judge their ideas by their appearance. Just stop it.

Maybe I should make a joke about the physical appeal of leadership that consists mainly of senior gentlemen and how great it would be for our missionary work if we started to get ones that looked more like Chris Hemsworth…..

Worked up much?

Speaking only for myself, Ms Kelly's ideas wouldn't be any more appealing if she looked like Claudia Schiffer.

Shut up you fat uggos.

(That is the kind of speech you are defending stripped of euphemisms.)

I wonder if you would say that same thing to Tom Harkin? OR does this only prove useful when you disagree with some one?

Her looks aside, I find her to not be appealing or persuasive and on top of it it was said as a play on words. Too funny.

I am all for it.

Yes. I expect more of men who are trying to follow Christ.

Really?

What's an uggo, and who are you calling fat?

You do know what the word "wouldn't" means, don't you?

As in, "Ms Kelly's ideas wouldn't be any more appealing if she looked like Claudia Schiffer?"

I saw that the appeal was denied. It just isnt good form to say anything about her appearance. She is our sister in the Church/world and we aren`t better off without her. Would she need to find a different method to agitate-sure. The comments seem to just give the whole OW movement more examples of why they need to have more equality, even if it isn`t all about the priesthood.

Oh, for goodness' sake!

Didn't you get in enough harp practice this week?

This thread isn't about her appearance.  It's about her tedious publicity-seeking.

And in what universe would "equality" make any difference?

Brethren, you make us all look like slovenly, sexist pigs when you comment on a women's appearance whether or not you agree with her ideas. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Some of my best friends are slovenly , sexist pigs. :sorry:

Appearance has nothing to do with it.  It is all about public persona.

It's really time for Buckeye's pompous, censorious little derail to die a sad (but hardly untimely) death.

Regards,

Pahoran

It was actually Boanerges who began the derail when he chose to make her appearance a valid criticism.

If Buckeye hadn't of said something about it first others would have. It was unjustifiable and needed to be countered.

Exactly, I never attacked Ms. Kelly's ideas, and made the simple observation that I find her a bit homely. Were I single and she the only single woman in my ward I'd probably pass. It's not at all unusual for either gender to make such judgements.

As for the senior church leadership, it seems to me that most women think Pres. Uchtdorf is a silver fox. While I do generally like his message, it has nothing to do with the fact that I agree he is a good looking gentleman for his age.

I'm not disagreeing with you necessarily, but what makes you so sure that the First Presidency will deny her appeal?  Pres. Uchtdorf has been making subtle overtures to the disaffected and marginalized for several conferences now.  What better way to say, "We really do want all kinds of members," then by embracing the symbol of the Mormon left?

As an eternal skeptic, I suspect that Team Apostate has hooked its wagon to the wrong star, but if Pres Uchtdorf is our Neo (i.e., "The One"), then this would be the perfect time for him to put on the sun glasses and the cape.  Besides, it would help A LOT with our current narrative of "we're just like the rest of you Christians, only we live longer."  Since practically no one else is excommunicating lay members, it might help our claim to normalcy if we stopped doing so too (at least, in cases that make the front page of the New York Times).

I have no idea how to assess the merit of your post because I can not see if you're attractive enough to take seriously.  So do us all a favor ... put your picture in your avatar so we can evaluate any of your future thoughts based on your looks.  OR you can simply take the very good advice that was given in this thread and stop commenting on ANYONE'S appearance.
