LittleNipper Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Jesus is historical fact and where He lived is historical fact. And if the Bible has been trashed as you imagine, and yet you hold various Mormon writings in the same regard as the Bible, then how truthful can they be? Do you not read the Bible in "light" of Mormon traditions? And then can I not view Mormon literature in light of the Bible? We have an historic group of people (JEWS) that are very meticulous in their copying of the Old Testament. And we NOW have a nation of Israel where once there was only historical evidence of a long dispersed group of God's Chosen people. Jesus Himself said that not one jot would be removed from the law, and yet you seem to imagine that GOD would allow anyone to simply cast His word aside at a whim without divine intervention? Your version of a god must be rather weak, that it cannot accomplish anything on its own. Read the book of Hebrews and you will find exactly what My Lord accomplished. The Old Testament is as it was at the time of Christ. The Gnostics were a group of people who believed that secret knowledge was the key. They fabricated books hundreds of years after the various Church letters and the book of Revelation had been collected. To become saved the Bible was complete. The story was were did we come from, why do we need a Savior, who is this Savior, where are we headed, and why? These are all answered in the Bible. The Universal Church has changed the entire world over the period of 2000 years. Yes, it was not easy. And yes, sometimes it looked as though Satan was gaining the upper hand. But today we have easy access to the Bible and archeological studies and Creation science investigations and race is not the issue it once was. And through it all GOD has left His mark ----- even on pagan and atheistic nations. Edited September 16, 2014 by LittleNipper

I'd guess you're steeped in heavy assumptions about what is scripture, about what is God's word and His law. There is room to discuss these things, but the discussion stops and halts when its all dogmatic throwing statements back and forth. It seems to me that's where the difficulty in this thread has come. 3
USU78 Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 As a Christian, I believe Jesus is the Word that became flesh and dwelt among men. That Word that was fulfilled was the Old Testament. The New Testament reveals in Christ the promises of the Old Testament through the life Jesus lead and his teachings. I place no other book above the Bible. And I certainly do not imagine that the Bible is inferior to the "revelation" of any latter day prophet. Contradictions discovered between the Bible any ANYOTHER book only enforces the inferiority of the other book. The Bible is the Christians standard. Bibliolatry Again As a Christian, I decry deification of a mere object, when the true and living Master and His Father and ours speak at all times to all people who will but hear. 3
HappyJackWagon Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 By the way, I like your screen name and am curious about the derivation. Happy= I'm a happy person & Happy Gilmore is my sporting role modelJack= Jack Mormon & the old game "You don't know Jack"Wagon= Staying on the Mormon bandwagonJackwagon= a derissive term sometimes used instead of Jacka$$ Besides, I thought it sounded funny.
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 I hope we're all worthy enough to achieve exaltation and experience the specifics of it. I can't think of anything more glorious and I will spend eternity kicking myself if I fall short of it.
LittleNipper Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The Scriptures are not a mere object. They were given through select men by God. How else would you know anything concerning Jesus Christ without them? In the beginning was the Word and the Word became flesh and dwelt among men. And oddly, when the Mormon missionaries come to my door, they never seem to promote the Savior, they come promoting "Another Testament." That would seem to be something you would be against and not at all what I have to say.
VideoGameJunkie Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 The "Another Testament" is about the Savior. Our official church name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
HappyJackWagon Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 "The Scriptures are not a mere object. They were given through select men by God." Technically, we don't know who many of the authors are, let alone if they were "select men of God". The writings are often about men of God, whether literal or figurative, but the writings usually come many years after the events are purported to have happened. Did Job write the book of Job? Or was it written 600 years later by someone combining a Persian bedtime story with the story of Job as bible scholars believe? Was there really even a Job? The scriptures represent a variety of genres and a multitude of authors who are not the subjects of the writings. I hope I'm not bursting anyone's bubble with this.

That would seem to be something you would be against and not at all what I have to say. You are quite wrong. G-d speaks to man . . . man processes the Divine Communication inside himself . . . then man communicates what he has processed either in verbal or written form, both of which forms are mere approximations of what G-d Himself has communicated, and are only symbolic representations of what man has experienced during the Divine Communication. A book is a clumsy artifact of man's struggle to process and communicate a supernal experience to other men. It is at best a 3rd-rate communication of what G-d has communicated to man. Better to communicate directly to the G-d Who is/was the author of the Divine Communication. You do poorly to elevate the artifact to near g-dlike status. It is not perfect. It is not inerrant. It is not the end-all and be-all of discovery of the Mind of G-d. At best it is a first, baby step. Don't stop your journey, for heaven's sake, on the freeway onramp. 2

LittleNipper Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Why do Mormons love Joseph Smith and yet he was sexually immoral?
LittleNipper Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Why do Mormons want to live on their own planet and create their own universes? Do they think that they can do a better job?
JLHPROF Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Why do Mormons want to live on their own planet and create their own universes? Do they think that they can do a better job? No, because we want to be just like our Heavenly Father (Matt 5:48), even if it takes millennia to get there.Isn't becoming like God biblical? (I John 3:1-2) 4
LittleNipper Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) Are Mormons planning to go to the cross, again even if it takes several millennia? Edited September 16, 2014 by LittleNipper
JLHPROF Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Are Mormons planning to go to the cross, again? Hebrews 9:27 - And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Nope, we only die once. But every earth needs a Savior. An only begotten son of the Father. The pattern this earth has followed is not unique. It has happened countless times in the eternities and will happen countless more.
Coreyb Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Why do Mormons love Joseph Smith and yet he was sexually immoral?Same reason we love Hugh Hefner 2
JLHPROF Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Why do Mormons love Joseph Smith and yet he was sexually immoral? Because he wasn't. At all. Unless you lack understanding or believe a lie. Ignorance or dishonesty lead to your conclusion. You should be very angry with whoever gave it to you. 1
LittleNipper Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Did Joseph have more than one wife? Were any of them far younger than himself? Does the Mormon church condone polygamy today? Did the Christian Church ever promote or condone polygamy in its history? Tell me what and where is the lie? I lack Mormon understanding. Did Joseph Smith say that he saw people living on the moon? Was this a vision of Mormons having their own planets at sometime in the future, a lie, or was Joseph Smith simply off his rocker?

Coming on here as a newby, you were entitled to and received the benefit of the doubt that you weren't just another puke troll. Alas, events, and your own will, have demonstrated the sad fact that you are just that. And we so hoped you'd be able to get off the onramp. sigh 2
JLHPROF Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 (edited) "Did Joseph have more than one wife?" - Yes"Were any of them far younger than himself?" - Yes"Does the Mormon church condone polygamy today?" - Only if commanded by God"Did the Christian Church ever promote or condone polygamy in its history?" - Yes"Tell me what and where is the lie?" - When you said Joseph was immoral."Did Joseph Smith say that he saw people living on the moon?" - No (check your facts on that one)"Was this a vision of Mormons having their own planets at sometime in the future, a lie, or was Joseph Smith simply off his rocker?" - Neither, it was 100% revelation from God and a thing of beauty. Do you have ANYTHING new to offer? Because you are not telling us anything we don't already know and (mostly) accept.Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and stands beside our Savior Jesus Christ as his witness. He presides over this generation and will give all honor to our Savior who will give all honor to the Father. This is Mormonism. Don't like it, don't be a Mormon. But don't think you are surprising us with information about our own religion. Edited September 17, 2014 by JLHPROF 4
