Mormons "getting Their Own Planet" (Merged)

Anyone who thinks that "getting your own planet" is logically equivalent to "organizing worlds" gets an F in my logic class.

Then please explain - in my thirty plus years right here in the heart of Zion I have never heard it described in any other way.

Sad to have spent more than 30 years in Zion and not to have read the scriptures.

I have my own planet. I am on it right now many will easily say. But back to your point. Regradless of what Mormons believe, if it's out in the mdia, it is subject to misinteriptation and insults like so many things in mida lan are. Sadm but true. Best to do is to honor your believes.

In this life I have no posterity yet, but I hope to have lots of posterity in the eternities.

There are enough worlds for anyone to have billions each. Not to mention the sermon in which from with people infer this from is not Scripture, nor ever will be.

It seems to me that "getting our own planet" is shorthand for "we're promised that we can be like God but we can't comprehend what that will actually entail, so let's cut it down to something manageable and wouldn't it be cool if people were descended from tigers instead of apes?"

I wish the GAs would touch more on this subject so we wouldn't have such confusion. Lorenzo Snow and Joseph Smith seemed to believe in exaltation though.

Perhaps the GAs are being careful not to cause folklore to spread such as "getting your own planet."

Only one question, but why?  I know that I would never want this. 

I don't either really, but I DO want to do the most I can to help as many people as possible to be happy, and that is God's plan for h,is children and I am one of his children.

 

I DO believe in the "Plan of Happiness" and I want to participate in his plan to my fullest ability.  THAT is my personal goal.  I want to please my father

I still ask this, but how can anyone not want this? It seems so wonderful and glorious. I believe in heaven we'll be able to handle the responsibility and have eternity to learn how to do it.

Well the whole point of exaltation is to have posterity. There needs to be a place for our posterity. If our posterity shares a world with other people's posterity I do not know, but I believe we at least get to help in the creation of worlds.

Totally agreed.

 

But "getting my own world" sounds like you "get" to play games with all your little people toys and watch them jump around to your will.

 

"Organizing worlds", plural, has a totally different connotation.  You are giving organization and a plan to perhaps millions of people you can help to achieve exaltation.

 

One implies being a control freak, the other implies serving and helping as many people as you can.  I see that as a big difference.

Then get out of the heart of Zion.  It's false doctrine and I have NEVER heard those words in church once- just from anti Mormons

I agree mfbukowski. That's why the more I think about what exaltation entails, the more it sounds like we'll just be helping God with His worlds and we'll HELP run them, but not own them all to ourselves and our spouses, but we'll feel the same joy that He does when our spirit children are exalted and return home.

To me, it is the greatest blessing I can imagine.  I don't know who would not want to have a loving family of thousands!  God is love and love is what makes families.  You cannot separate one from the other.

We've discussed in the past the idea that Mormons believe that we will get our "own planet".  This idea is still being portrayed to packed houses of theater goers in The Book of Mormon broadway musical, and there has been some debate on whether or not this is a valid representation of LDS belief.

 

I recently came across this quote which I had never seen before.  It's a teaching from President Lorenzo Snow, as published in this manual.

President Snow was visiting a Kindergarten with BY Academy President Brimhall when this happened:

 

 

So while I can understand that many LDS don't like the idea or are hesitant to admit it is a "church teaching", I don't think we can argue that anyone who says it is is being disingenuous.

This is part of a set of doctrines that I struggle with. However when I think about the other things I see happening within the church, I keep my peace.

I think saying "getting your own planet" is the linguistic equivalent of saying "magic underwear". It's not so much technically wrong as it's not the language Mormons use. It sounds too crude or simplistic. Mormons don't typically like outsiders using outsider terminology.
