halconero Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 What I find interesting is the current status of the "Monson fraud case" on their board. Previously to the dismissal it was front and center and in the top current news listings on the home page. Last I saw it was removed from that and now in the news section is only shown by a link to a SL Trib page IIRC and nothing on it in the What's New page. One can still find it by searching, but certainly seems that the editor didn't want to call attention to it as much as he used to.So new editor and new approach to the attempted criminal charges that was so prominent for a time…it will be interesting to see if it works for them or if they will finally give up the pretense.Nope, the new editor has specifically said that they're planning to try and make the site more subtle but still revealing of the "truth."

And then moving on from it. It will be up to FAIR on their wiki to keep it in the publlic mind when it comes to MTs supposed neutrality. I remember the glee on their site when Tom announced the cased, gave MT a plug and how thousands of people went to their site for a look. One of the founders (I think) of the site seemed to be overcome with joy on a certain board. But now? Well...its cut and run time hoping it will all blow over.

Surely, Phillips et al, who had thought so far ahead they had plans A1 through Z∞ already worked out, saw this dismissal coming from 1,000 miles away and have better plans than that!
Scott Lloyd Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Nope, the new editor has specifically said that they're planning to try and make the site more subtle but still revealing of the "truth."I guess they forgot for a season that sophistry, to be effective, must be subtle.
cdowis Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I guess Plan B is for Phillips to retire and this whole thing to quietly fade away.
Tacenda Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 According to a podcaster I listened to recently, he has got something up his sleeve. Since the court case is over he is able to unleash it, whatever that is.

Since the court case is over he is able to unleash it, whatever that is.Out of curiosity, how recently? There was a lot of bluster right after the dismissal and then the rewriting of Mormon Think where the case disappeared and nothing else has been seen or heard from Phillips himself or those who he shared information with before....at least that I know. What more could he do, maybe go public with the 2nd annointing which he basically already has? It could be something to do with church finances and he is waiting for Quinn's book, scheduled, or atleast I read that it was, to come out later this year. That is the only direction I think he would take.
reubendunn Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 At the sound of the tone, Tom Phillips' Fifteen Minutes of Fame will expire..... 1
reubendunn Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I was in the Coventry chapel, Riverside/Mercia wards, which merged into the Coventry ward. I have, by the way spoken, albeit via email, with Mr. Phillips, over the past several months. I am NOT relying on hearsay and am basing my knowledge of what he pubically taught from first hand experience, and NOT from friends of a friend etc. I find it sad in a way to read what he is now publically and privately stating, given his previous track record in both the Birmingham, Leicester, and Coventry England stakes.
why me Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Oh, come onnn! Surely, Phillips et al, who had thought so far ahead they had plans A1 through Z∞ already worked out, saw this dismissal coming from 1,000 miles away and have better plans than that! I don't think so. I really think that he thought he was going to win. This is why MT was so behind him. And Tom and the two others went ahead with the suit. Now, Tom is in Portugal soaking up the sun in his retirement...fading into the distance...hoping all this will go away.
why me Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Reuben, do you know what annoys me about this. I've heard at least 3 accounts of Tom's life now from his *friends*, that purportedly knew him. All basically demonizing the man.Have you listened to his Mormon Stories interview with John Dehlin. If you want to know what he went through, from the horses mouth, then listen to him.I think that what you are now finding is that the people who knew him personally as a member have a different recollection of the man...they see a man who knew much and who seems to now have selective memory about what he knew and when he learned it. It is no surprise that these people would be a little shocked by what tom is saying now. So, if the people who knew him think that his memory is selective...why should tom state the truth on the podcast? It would seem that the people who experienced him as bishop or stake president do not recognize what he is claiming and believe that he is misleading people.
why me Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 The apostate narrative in the church can be incredibly damaging to families.Actually, I think that the apostate creates their own problem. It doesn't matter what the faith is...if one is an apostate a problem will come about with the family who still believes. No one wants to see their faith attacked, especially not by a family member.
The Nehor Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 According to a podcaster I listened to recently, he has got something up his sleeve. Since the court case is over he is able to unleash it, whatever that is. This was what was up his sleeve. His sleeves seem to be filled with incredibly banal stuff.
Avatar4321 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 This was what was up his sleeve. His sleeves seem to be filled with incredibly banal stuff. Most people are filled with incredibly banal stuff. Hopefully the Lord will bring him to repentence and he can forsaket the evil he is doing.

And the two others signed on because the magistrate wouldn't go ahead with it unless he named alleged victims. He claimed in one podcast I heard that he disputed that he was legally required to do that but he complied to avoid further delay. I'm sure he'll be flapping his gums and arms for years to come, hoping something sticks. He clearly indicated as much just before the case was thrown out, saying, essentially, he has other plan if this is thrown out. he even seemed to claim he has more substantial gripes that need to be heard. What a goon.
