djones Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Oh good! Hopefully Satan won't be such a dork in this one! 1
David T Posted January 16, 2014 Author Posted January 16, 2014 I liked the portrayal in the 2013 one.
strappinglad Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 For many years during the 'live' presentation days , we had the absolute BEST Satan . A great presence, voice, and subtle smarminess.
djones Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Adam and Eve did a fantastic job in the 2013 film. Satan just tried way too hard to be evil and couldn't pull it off. But yes, the best ones are the old geezers in the Salt Lake Temple wearing a black suit from DI that doesn't fit quite right. 1
djones Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Adam and Eve did a fantastic job in the 2013 film and overall I liked it much better than the previous films. Satan just tried way too hard to come off as scary and evil and just couldn't pull it off. But yes, the best ones are the old geezers in the SL Temple wearing an old black suit from DI that doesn't fit quite right.
djones Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Whoa. How do you delete a post? I didn't think my reply posted so I wrote it again and now it's on there twice.

DonBradley Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Oh good! Hopefully Satan won't be such a dork in this one! Nor a passive-aggressive psychopath who evokes all of the DSM IV disorders but fits none of them. He's not a fitting symbol of evil because he simply can't be taken seriously.
janderich Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 In my opinion the 2013 film is too melodramatic, particularly Eve. Satan is also, to some extent.
rameumptom Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 In my opinion, while the new Satan is not the best, the real acting that occurs for Adam and Eve gives greater depth to the whole story of the Garden.
bluebell Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I liked the portrayal in the 2013 one.I did too. I can't imagine anyone doing it any better. I thought he was perfect.
Freedom Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 i just find it too long. Too many dramatic pauses. When I heard a new film was coming out I was hoping they would cut out 20 minutes, instead they added 20. I'm just too impatient I suppose.
Alan Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I thought the portrayal of Lucifer in the 2013 film was a masterpiece. Easily the best acting in the film; absolutely superb.
BlueDreams Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Nor a passive-aggressive psychopath who evokes all of the DSM IV disorders but fits none of them. He's not a fitting symbol of evil because he simply can't be taken seriously. Psst.....it's the DSM V now. I'm excited to see the new video! Haven't seen it yet....but that's probably just because I went saturday and missed the change. I really love the first one, so I'm interested to see what they'll do with the second. And personally I prefer a satan that seems almost non-threatening....one that's easy to see why what he suggest may really be ok. With luv,BD

Am I remembering that wrong?
Sevenbak Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 With the 2013 one, I kind of have a hard time getting past Saints and Soldiers. But then, I had the same issue with the real old one with Gordan Jump and WKRP in Cincinnati.

Buzzard Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 i just find it too long. Too many dramatic pauses. When I heard a new film was coming out I was hoping they would cut out 20 minutes, instead they added 20. I'm just too impatient I suppose. That was explained when it came out. The movie will be translated into many languages. A lot of the concepts that are in the endowment take longer to express in some of these other tongues. So rather than having the translations be rushed and out of synch, they slow up the English version. For those of us who sat through three hour long live sessions in the Salt Lake Temple, 12 minutes is no big deal. 1
Deborah Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I did too. I can't imagine anyone doing it any better. I thought he was perfect. Ditto. The picture of him coming across so innocently and then you see the evil was very good. I've heard that the newer film is even more beautiful and stirring. Hard to imagine. I'm hoping to see it tomorrow. 1
MorningStar Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I haven't seen the 2013 one yet because my tailbone has been hurting bad for over a year. Last time I went, I wanted to scream every time I stood up or sat down. I just need to go and ask if I can be the weirdo who stands in the back of the room. I can't even handle a 90 minute move at the theater. Or sitting in this computer chair. Back to my standing activities!
Calm Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Hate to be the one...but it took years for my tailbone to get where I could sit longer than 15 without pain after it likely got broken in childbirth. Still can't sit on it a certain way and horseback riding has never been comfortable since.?..and he's pat his 30th birthday.Good luck.
EllenMaksoud Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 http://m.deseretnews.com/article/865594237/LDS-Church-begins-using-another-new-temple-film.htmlOh, so this is like a legitimate one, not one of those ones made with hidden camera, so haram.
Garden Girl Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Oh good! Hopefully Satan won't be such a dork in this one! Hello dj...This is what I thought of Satan at first... as the story unfolded and he appeared to be a wimp I thought, Oh No!... then when something displeased him the expression on his face changed dramatically and he became menacing... and evil. So I thought he did a really good job... sort of lulling them, then wham! Like he does in reality.... GG 1
