Duncan Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Okay i'll tell you the story. This sister missionary told us at ward correlation tonite about this stake in Colorado. Apparently...in this smaller town there was a stake of ten wards, 5000 population and 3000 of which were members. The STP principle existed (same ten people) anyways the Stake Pres. had this idea of having more then the same people do the callings so he and his bishops gave out callingas to other people (made up ones sounds like) and so that hopefully would ease the burden. Well, it didn't. People weren't doing their callings and than stuff wasn't getting done and the work was piling on to people and all these people were going inactive and the Stake Pres got exed, some Bishops got exed. Members would move in and go inactive and the wards went from 10 to 2. Missionaries are banned from this town and also the crops failed, a la due to the unrighteousness of the members. Basically the stake imploded. Oh, and all this happened in 7 months. Now I don't believe a word of it and it was quite the night but with every story their is usually a kernel of truth. So, has anyone ever heard anything remotely at least similar to this story? anyone from Colorado or Springville, Utah where this sister is from...!!

Buzzard Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 If an entire stake imploded, being so close to Utah, you can be assured that it would make the secular press, especially the SLTribune. They lap that kind of stuff up. I've heard of wards shrinking by quite a bit, but usually an adulterous bishop or his wife is involved. Taking it to a stake level would be a much bigger target.And while I'm sure it wouldn't happen in Canada, either, that line made me laugh. Well, played, Brother Crockett.

california boy Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 There are towns in Colorado that have a very high Mormon population Manasseh Colorado for example is one. There is also an Ephraim Colorado. Both towns were started by pioneers sent there by Brigham Young.

Birthplace of Jack Dempsey, the Manassa Mauler.I met him when they made a park and monument out of his old home. His family's name is in the credit registers from my great-grampa's general store. Dempsey owned a restaurant in LA, and anyone from Manassa got a free dinner there. My uncle and his family were his guests once. They said he was very kind and attentive to them. People in Manassa and nearby Sanford, another Mormon colony, are the salt of the earth. My grandmother was one of the saints in the colonies trained to play organ and piano by travelling tabernacle organists sent on missions to upgrade music in the Church. She received excellent instruction. My grandfather played cello and saxophone in the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Band that travelled on the train routes. 2

She brought it up last week and how if someone mentions her name in a certain city then they'll shudder and it's supposed to because of this story....so you never know, but now I want to meet her previous companion!

It's sad, but I'm afraid it appears to be true.I don't know whether I'm one of the Same Ten People, but I suspect my bishopric were thinking outside of the box when they gave me my current calling, ward choir director, and I'm actually kind of having fun with it. 1

I am from Colorado and haven't heard anything, not even rumors, that would suggest a shred of truth in this story. 1

He grew up with and was friends with Jack Dempsey. I have ancestors buried in Manassa pioneer cemetery as well as in Sanford cemetery.

We are aware of and do the same in our Stake. We have had some success expanding the groups but it is tough especially when the separate directives are to have your best people in each auxiliary.
