The Lord'S Hastening Of The Work

I was reading the current Ensign and found this articule particularly interesting:

I was wondering what others thought about it. Particularly in the context of the second coming and the end times as some of us have been discussing lately.

While I do know the name of the Church, I'm not convinced that any one event or small series of events is indicative of the imminent return of the Lord.

I didn't read the article, but do they mention how the youth of the late 1980's and early 1990's had been held in reserve to come to the earth at that time, as a special and chosen people to prepare for the last days? And how we were way more special than the youth that would be coming along 20 years later?

Because we were part of a pretty awesome increase in the number of missionaries between 1982-2002, and we didn't need a change in the age policy to do it.

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that the church is killing two birds with one stone, one bird is the younger missionary age will curb the single adults that are leaving the church by allowing these elders and sisters to attend the temple to get endowments out and making covenants early in life and of course the other bird is bringing the populations into the church. I was wondering what others thought about it. Particularly in the context of the second coming and the end times as some of us have been discussing lately.

I think the phrase “hastening the day” relates as much to a “quickening” than to actual speed (though one might lead to the other, and in the case of youth, His Second Coming will occur sooner in their lifetimes than us old folk). But as far as "quickening" goes, the Great Day of the Lord is more real, meaningful and conducive to salvation for those who prepare in righteousness, and those who prepare sooner than later.

Related to this idea is something President Kimball said: “When Satan is bound in a single home—when Satan is bound in a single life—the Millennium has already begun in that home, in that life."

The article is basically saying we facilitated that changed by being such good parents, generally speaking. The better the parents, the better the parenting skills, and the better the children are as they benefit from what their parents have taught them.

The hand of the Lord is in all of this, because he is the one helping both the parents and the children to be better and better.

The article also focuses on how much better younger people are these days at wanting to do family history work, Not that the parents are bad, but that their children are even better, with all of us being motivated by a feeling from the Lord to let us know the importance of family history work.

More and more younger people are doing their family research and going to the temple to do more of what they can do to help those who came before them. They're doing more and more as youth, and also as they get older, and also as they marry and have their own children and then help their own children to feel more motivated to do as they've done in their own lives.
