My son made me watch a documentary called "Loose Change 911" the other night.  It was very convincing.  But it had many holes to it.  One convincing story was of the findings of explosives in the dust after the buildings came down.  And the person who tested the dust was a graduate of BYU, so kind of gave it credence in my mind.  But the part of the planes not being commercial flights but military planes has me perplexed.  Don't we know of actual passengers that boarded the commercial airlines?  And the way the buildings free fall  is a big question mark, along with a building nearby that free fell.  And the two eyewitnesses that heard explosions in the building before it came down, but didn't have any planes going through it.  Apparently it had some intelligence material or something to do with government work inside it.

Anyone here watch it, and could you give me some info to counter it?

May I suggest watching a documentary about how buildings are actually prepared for demolition. It takes weeks of weakening the structure and planting explosives .Such work would hardly go unnoticed . If these conspiracy theories about 911 weren't so silly they would be sad.

Tacenda...

This claim is the silliest of all... and the most cruel... tell that to the families of the passengers who were talking to their loved ones on cell phones as the planes were flying... and suddenly the phones went dead.  The passengers described to their families what was going on and who was hijacking the planes... tell that to the widow of the one passenger who was telling her that several of the passengers were going to try and take back the plane and had developed an attack plan... his last words she heard were, "Let's roll..."  as they started their attack...

How absolutely cruel to suggest the planes were not the passenger jets... and don't forget the air traffic controllers who watched the various commercial planes in question and then saw them go off of the radar.  I mean it's idiotic to posit such a theory... surely you can see that...

I can definitely see something so wrong to posit the theory. But is there any chance some evil Americans were in on some of this? Some that were in the military? It mentioned there were practices held in case of the possibility of terrorists flying into buildings, maybe they were performing these practices, and the evil doers made it happen for real. Of course there would have to be several in on it. But certainly not who the documentary is pointing fingers at. And really, they couldn't get someone better than Charlie Sheen to narrate? But told my son, the producers of the documentary can and do lie.

Last movie I watched was the "Meet the Mormons" documentary.

Just can't quite let go of it. Sigh.

I could write a conspiracy theory and make money off it like these people do, too. If I were a sociopathic liar.

Mormon drug addiction:

I just watched a CNN "News" segment on drugs and the Mormon Church and it left me really riled up !

In my experience, I have not seen drug addiction, sex addiction, alcoholism, or any of the other "isms" just swept under the carpet like in my old Evangelical Denomination. When I was with them, it was handled with guilt, condemnation and punishement to include shunning.

I do not know how Muslims handle that sort of thing but do know, from a Saudi Citizen, that Saudi Arabia has a huge Alcoholism problem. I do not know if there are treatment protocols or what?

I know a few families that are struggling with various issues, and all I see from the Ward is support and compassion.

The news story left me Mad, really Mad !

I may have already said some of this, so some think I am just nuts.

Here are some factoids that I am pretty sure of, and they have precedence:

"They" knew the attack was coming. They did not try to stop it because Bush and his oil buddies wanted to gain control of the oil in Iraq. Iraq has the second largest oil reserves in the world, perhaps the largest.

There were no WMD's. Saddam had Mustard gas that America gave him.

Any building over 10 stories gets demolition charges during construction. And we thought that the only reason for that sprayed on stuff in steel framed buildings was for fire protection?  During a fire, steel quickly loses strength, so insulating it will prolong structural strength. The sprayed on stuff also conceals the Demolition charges and associated wiring.  So, yes, once the buildings started down, they were demolished to make them fall straight down, not fall to the side.

There is more, but even talking about all this makes me start over the edge.

I am really hoping for the day that the Mormons "Save the Constitution", it is almost too late.

I only brought it up for ideas to show my son how very wrong it was, the documentary. No way Bush is behind it. Just gave a possibility of it coming from an inside job from evildoers, but don't really believe it. This was all new stuff, I hadn't heard about. Stargazer, did you read my post? Anyhow, moving on.

Well, the precident in Bush knowing about it ahead of time is that the President knew that the Japanese were going to attack Pearl Harbor. He knew the fleet was just garbage, so they let the Japanese attack, knowing that this would put the American People in the mood to go to war.

12 Years a Slave

My husband, with his Georgie roots, did not think southerners were fairly portrayed.

I could not stop picturing Chiwetel Ejiofor as the character Lola, that he played in the film "Kinky Boots". A movie that I enjoyed much more the 12 Years.

I can't take the violence, but watched it anyway because it has Ejiofor in it and all the Oscar hoopla made me curious. Could have done without seeing it. Let that be a lesson for me.

This was a great movie, however I am, and am living in Georgia, slave owners we by their nature unrighteous and evil men. The movie my have tried to amplify some events, but I grew up during segregation...sadly it is a history I wish we could erase. But 12 years a slave, was so sad and shocking it was hard to look away, like a train wreck. :(

Yes, I don't think that he was trying to say slavers were nice people.

His memories of Georgia are idyllic, and more focused on relatives who were kind to him. The same relatives who lived in an old, falling into ruin, plantation home that had been a familial.home for generations. It has long since been sold and the kind relatives long dead. Perhaps the movie caused him to see that at one time, the old plantation house wasn't so idyllic as his memories.

I just re-watched The Truman Show last weekend- I had forgotten how much I liked that show.  I love the theme of self-determination of one's path in life, and triumphing over adversity, wherever it comes from.  Outstanding soundtrack as well.

I think a lot of times we like thinking that slavery was more like it was in Gone with the Wind. Still bad, but not too bad.  It's just a lot more comfortable and it doesn't vilify people and places that we might admire and love.  For most of us, it's hard to see it, even a little bit, how it really was.

Being from Georgia and having personal memories surrounding that place, I can understand why your hubby especially wouldn't be fond of such a movie.

Yeah, I think so too. But what life was truly like that long ago, is not real to anyone now. We only have history…and Mormon relatives who have done temple work for slavers and Confederate soldiers.

Yep!

No one can claim we don't believe in the power of repentance or the Atonement. :D

Doesn't everybody deserve a chance to repent?

Mine are idyllic, I love my dear land. I am proud that the State changed to get ride of it's prejudice...Atlanta is one of the best places to work for black and white. I measure my beloved State, not for her past, but for what she has become. Are some still playing catchup...that is an individual thing. I am speaking of it's Gov't and Institutions.

I'm on a movie binge today. I started around 6:30 pm and have seen 3 good movies...October Girl, 3 Fugitives and in the middle of watching Last Love. My Netflix expires at the end of this month, catching up because I don't watch very often.

Edit to Add: Michael Caine is in Last Love, one of my favorite actors, that I'd forgotten about.
