  1. I wish for the church to be transparent with everything, no matter what it exposes. I think the harm it does to it's members w/o mentioning monies, could be youth interviews. I hope they're not asking youth if they masturbated. Last night I was out to dinner with my son and daughter-in-law and they both were asked that question in their youth and neither had ever heard the word before. Therefore it's like opening up a world unknown to the youth, and also being asked about porn viewing, it can open up another world. We shouldn't be asking these things to the youth, it's harmful. Is it any wonder that we have a major porn problem in the church, also taking away the Sacrament. My daughter in law served a mission in Guam and surrounding islands, now I forget the mission name, but it wasn't just Guam. She got flesh eating disease and we saw a pic of her being hooked up to a Gatorade bottle posing as an IV of all things! She's lucky to be alive! She was only able to serve 11 months of her mission. Later she was married in the temple and active and all that. She happen to post on FB her dissatisfaction of the members in the church. She's from out of state and I guess she was so disappointed in what she'd seen. This was in Utah County, btw. Well that post was shared by someone to the bishop of her ward and he told her she needed to take it down or be disciplined. She wouldn't do it and therefore told to stop taking the Sacrament for a time. Eventually she has become inactive and was also divorced and now with my son. So corrupted? Could the church be corrupt for how it treats it's members in these ways? And also the money spent by the church, once again could go to more people and could save so many more lives out there, so I guess in a matter of speaking could that be corrupt? Plus, when the church set up their own banking system with Joseph Smith, could that be something? But I do know the church is good in so many ways. But lo and behold, let me have it people! About not enough money going out.
  2. I saw that on the news. I was on a vacation last weekend in Bryce Canyon, Utah and there were a lot of people from out of the country. We met the coolest couple and their parents from Paris, France and they were heading to the Sequoias. They had seen a lot of LA, California and Las Vegas and Zion's National Park, I was hoping all would go well for them. The fires are terrible this year, or it feels like so many, and there are so many in my home state. I will keep this in my prayers.
  3. Thanks for all your comments on such a silly post really. Or maybe not, to Al it's hard to take, she's all about that number one is Christ. And in the church that is true, but I thought I'd ask the question here for Al, not that she reads the board, not sure. I had a wonderful experience at the Hill Comorah and surrounding areas in Palmyra with my husband at the start of my faith crisis. And do remember the Christus, but maybe it's a given that we believe in Christ and doesn't need to be some kind of idol. Jesus is a humble Saviour after all. I do remember a time in the eighties where in Relief Society we'd get a porcelain Christus or an unfinished Jesus in the Garden of Gethsamani. And we would sand it down, I had the Gethsamani one and it was an experience to lightly sand it to be smooth, sort of spiritual. But then a Stake President in my sister in law's stake wasn't all that happy with us doing this, maybe it was something to do with worshipping idols? But anyhow thanks to those of you for taking time out of your day to respond to my post.
  4. Saw this on a FB post by Al Fox Carraway, she's the one that joined the church in her younger age and had already had a lot of tattoos and wrote the book called "Tattooed Mormon". She is wondering why the Palmyra visitor's center took the Christus down. Do we have any guesses or true reasons that someone has heard? https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1Cnp21UMB5/
  5. Welcome back on participating on the board, you were missed!! While playing pickleball with former ward friends and neighbors yesterday. They mentioned that last Sunday during Sacrament meeting there was a musical number where they had the audience stand and sing while a ukulele (?) and violin (?) were playing, "This Little Light of Mine" and they were actually clapping to it. In my days as active LDS this would be unheard of during Sacrament meetings, plus the song I don't think we'd sing, w/o the clapping even. It just seems very Evangelical like. Which I think is great because sometimes in church the hymn singing lacked a lot. Even drove out the spirit, but not always. But I guess it's new in our hymns this year, here's a YouTube!
  6. I remember those and I really wanted to do that with my young family, until I realized I'd have to sacrifice and not drink my diet soda (flavor changes through the years), lame!
  7. Maybe, just maybe, he mean't like the expression when you're excited about something or mystified I don't know but sort of like this: Meaning: . In slang, "shut up" is sometimes used to express amazement or disbelief at something someone has said.
  8. During my mom's time with Alzheimer's I was devastated to lose her in the disease, I prayed and prayed. I had full faith that God could help her when my husband and brother-in-law gave her a PH blessing. I thought God was mean when my mom at the young age she was, was overtaken with the disease and her life ended abruptly as she and us knew it. Then on top of that injury she had to valiantly live the disease for 10 years. Now, I just accept what I cannot change and I believe there are many angels and God needs them to help. But we need to call out to them or Him. And I guess, as has been known to say, God works in mysterious ways. But I'm sorry, @JVW, I hope things are looking brighter for you and if not, that you hang on and feel good in being you're own God for the time being if God is elsewhere. And maybe some angels or guardian angels will hear you! I don't know if you know @mfbukowski or @Mfbnew, he always speaks about us as having the kingdom of God within us, so that's what I mean with with being your own God in times that you feel God is just being plain ole' mean!
  9. Thanks, I'll check on it!
  10. That sounds familiar, pretty sure that's it. And I even said I'd maybe watch now I can! Thanks!
  11. There is something to what you've said here, maybe he's seeing which of us he'd like to have around for an eternity.
  12. Same here, and now I want to go watch the movies!
  13. My daughter in law recently said she'd watched an alien movie so it peaked my interest on what you watched on TV, if you don't mind sharing. I thought she watched something on Hulu or Netflix.
  14. I didn't know you could play online, should have though. I'd love to learn how to play chess, didn't think I was smart enough honestly! Thanks for your example of going for something like this!
  15. I get what he's going through I do this often with other things. Maybe even on here!
  16. I loved our conversations a few years ago when you posted!
  17. All these years I've been on the generous side, but maybe I'm not and just thought I was after seeing I should be spending twice as much for family and close friends. I'm happy to do it, especially for the youth because they got screwed (forgive the word) but it feels like it. We older folks had it so good if you're in your senior years. We should all be rooting them on. Recently I heard that the government was going to or didn't vote for a no cash system, and go digital! Oh heck no!
  18. This is out of the blue, but recently saw something mentioning that President McKay said he thought Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon. But maybe the person mentioning it didn't give context to this information. Now I need to double check where I saw this.
  19. Thanks for this! I came here a second ago to ask the going rates and worrying that I'm not keeping up with inflation. Now I'm second guessing what I gave my two sisters' grandchild and daughter for their recent graduations from high school. If anyone want's to chime in on what they'd give that might help me feel better or worse, lol!
  20. Gotta say I didn't like what I read. Hopefully there is more to the story! Wouldn't it be something if the church bought the big chunk to keep oligarchs from buying it? And then selling it for a better price for the Australians? In my dreams, hope dreams come true!
  21. I would love to see her obituary too, @rpn. My husband and I were lucky to be able to meet her in Newport, Oregon while vacationing on the coast. She was so much fun and during breakfast she showed photos of her husband and cat (?) and a younger photo of herself, she was a knockout! We had a wonderful conversation and we were lucky to be able to see her lovely town in Oregon, we didn't see her home but think it was near the ocean, I believe. I have kept our PM's on this board and I was always awed by her wonderful writings of wisdom on the discussion board. I'm so happy for her to be with her husband again. I remember she mentioned that she was at one time inactive and then she returned to the church and got her Temple Recommend and did some ordinances for him.
  22. Here's a few... pallow (pillow) mou'enz (mountains) fark (fork) lay'en (Layton) I live in Layton and try to pronounce the "t" now. melk (milk) zy-in's (Zion's) hurri'ken (Hurricane) a town near St. George Being a native of Utah, I'm working on my speech and pronouncing the "t" much better. Someone mentioned Idahoans may speak similar to Utahans. But I think Boise, Idaho anyway has a unique speech sound. They sound really intelligent, IMO. My daughter in law is a Boise native and funnily I was on a vacation in Hawaii and on a snorkeling boat and one of the employees was a young woman and when she spoke she sounded just like my daughter in law and I had to ask where she was from and she was from Boise! My parents grew up in Sanpete County in Utah and they definitely have a different way of speaking than a more urban area like Salt Lake. I found this video that seems informative.
  23. Good points here Calm. I think I'd like a person to tell me the truth, and then I'd be able to trust them better. And maybe everyone will lie about things to make sure not to offend, but the truth can help although it could be a tough pill to swallow for some. So you're right about things needing to be put in context and things needed to help if there's a need and something is unhealthy or destructive.
  24. I would love to do a church Humanitarian mission but I'm probably not able to go given my current status. But this may have been the gist of what Greg spoke on, but could be more. I wish I had better recall.
  25. Thanks Tony! I do like him personally, in interviews etc. But I guess not so much as an actor, although a good actor. I might need to watch movies other than the one I've seen to give him a shot at being my favorite.
