What They Talk About: Historical Skepticism of Mormonism
Tacenda replied to Pyreaux's topic in General Discussions
This is out of the blue, but recently saw something mentioning that President McKay said he thought Joseph Smith wrote the Book of Mormon. But maybe the person mentioning it didn't give context to this information. Now I need to double check where I saw this. -
Thanks for this! I came here a second ago to ask the going rates and worrying that I'm not keeping up with inflation. Now I'm second guessing what I gave my two sisters' grandchild and daughter for their recent graduations from high school. If anyone want's to chime in on what they'd give that might help me feel better or worse, lol!

Gotta say I didn't like what I read. Hopefully there is more to the story! Wouldn't it be something if the church bought the big chunk to keep oligarchs from buying it? And then selling it for a better price for the Australians? In my dreams, hope dreams come true!

I would love to see her obituary too, @rpn. My husband and I were lucky to be able to meet her in Newport, Oregon while vacationing on the coast. She was so much fun and during breakfast she showed photos of her husband and cat (?) and a younger photo of herself, she was a knockout! We had a wonderful conversation and we were lucky to be able to see her lovely town in Oregon, we didn't see her home but think it was near the ocean, I believe. I have kept our PM's on this board and I was always awed by her wonderful writings of wisdom on the discussion board. I'm so happy for her to be with her husband again. I remember she mentioned that she was at one time inactive and then she returned to the church and got her Temple Recommend and did some ordinances for him.

Here's a few... pallow (pillow) mou'enz (mountains) fark (fork) lay'en (Layton) I live in Layton and try to pronounce the "t" now. melk (milk) zy-in's (Zion's) hurri'ken (Hurricane) a town near St. George Being a native of Utah, I'm working on my speech and pronouncing the "t" much better. Someone mentioned Idahoans may speak similar to Utahans. But I think Boise, Idaho anyway has a unique speech sound. They sound really intelligent, IMO. My daughter in law is a Boise native and funnily I was on a vacation in Hawaii and on a snorkeling boat and one of the employees was a young woman and when she spoke she sounded just like my daughter in law and I had to ask where she was from and she was from Boise! My parents grew up in Sanpete County in Utah and they definitely have a different way of speaking than a more urban area like Salt Lake. I found this video that seems informative.

Good points here Calm. I think I'd like a person to tell me the truth, and then I'd be able to trust them better. And maybe everyone will lie about things to make sure not to offend, but the truth can help although it could be a tough pill to swallow for some. So you're right about things needing to be put in context and things needed to help if there's a need and something is unhealthy or destructive.

What They Talk About: "The Commitment Pattern"
Tacenda replied to Pyreaux's topic in General Discussions
I would love to do a church Humanitarian mission but I'm probably not able to go given my current status. But this may have been the gist of what Greg spoke on, but could be more. I wish I had better recall. -
Thanks Tony! I do like him personally, in interviews etc. But I guess not so much as an actor, although a good actor. I might need to watch movies other than the one I've seen to give him a shot at being my favorite.

FAIR conference 2025–starts Aug 6, streaming is available
Tacenda replied to Calm's topic in General Discussions
I'm really interested in this one, too late for the in person but there's streaming, yay! -
I'm on your side of this! We need to be in their world, those with dementia. They are often living far in the past with their memories and that would most likely be when your daughter was active. I also think lying is a good thing if it is making a situation better for someone. Such as giving a compliment we may be not entirely honest about. And other ways as well, as long as it's not hurting someone.

I like to give cash, but now I'm wondering how much, usually $100 is what I give, but maybe that's not as much as it use to be.

I listened to this and think Greg Prince made some great suggestions for the church, that I hope can be implemented. -

I agree! I hope there's not a lot of pressure for the missionaries to get numbers. It seemed to be a thing in the past. I think the girls didn't quite know the significance of joining the church. They definitely needed to be aware of what they were agreeing to do or be. This has been a problem in the past, with a lot of people getting baptized but not staying active and I thought the church was working on making changes to help this not happen. Missionaries are for the most part very loveable and can indeed make one want to help and not disappoint. -
I don't mind a show like this, such as finding someone that had something to do with his wife. Now can't remember, was she killed or missing? What I don't like is on Netlix these movies that have a different type feel with their filming equipment. Hard to explain. The format or ? So I will give it another chance maybe. And the main male lead, now just forgot his name...was really good at playing Freddie Mercury in the movie about Queen, but I can't think of other movies he's played in at the moment. Just not my favorite male lead, so I guess that didn't help.

I started to watch but lost interest. Maybe I better try again!

I did that a couple years ago, and you're right.

What They Talk About: Christians "Poaching" Ex-Mormons
Tacenda replied to Pyreaux's topic in General Discussions
⬆️ Count me in, if I want to get religion or go back to church, I'd have to go to the LDS church. -
Oh, I had no idea, interesting. Hope that doesn't happen, she loves to be in the spotlight and spread her evil.

So glad you posted Brooklyn, and hope it's a good experience from it. I'm not too far behind you in age, but inside I still feel young and immature. I love this board for helping me with intellect and teaching me many things. I hope you get out of the board many things you'd hope to.

I sure loved what the judge told her!! This video will be a long one, because it has the victims' family's speaking to Lori and it was very needed! Skip to the end where the judge encapsulates it so well and puts the nail in that coffin.

Maybe he's not going for a laugh, because it's too serious a subject. -

Deleted...maybe too political. -
I hope if your husband does "ask to be released", the bishop will allow it. My husband did that once and the bishop wouldn't let him be released. It was in the High Priest presidency. 😄
