  1. I will do some research, I actually know the attorney that worked on the case involving Ballard, but he isn't a very close acquaintance. But believe this information should now be public knowledge. Maybe @smac97 will be able to help.
  2. I have wanted to watch sorta, so maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks!
  3. https://www.fairlatterdaysaints.org/archive/publications/spencers-visions-of-glory#:~:text=Visions of Glory's portrayal of,contradict LDS scripture and prophets.
  4. I wonder if the companion was slightly afraid of this guy too. My son, I learned way after my son fulfilled his mission, was practically beat up after asking his companion for the missionary phone because his companion was under a blanket speaking to his girlfriend from home, back when they had more restrictions. And the dude was much larger than my son who is pretty short. And the mission president beg'd my son to hold off on getting a transfer because this guy had anger issues and the only one that could get along with him at the moment was my son. But luckily after a couple of weeks the violent companion was transferred out of there. He basically hit my son a couple of times, so not really beat up. But I think it's the same no matter how many hits.
  5. I sat through the whole meeting. I think it's going to be a go. But who knows.
  6. I've been banned twice and forgiven twice. But can't remember the number of years, but several.
  7. Interesting interview with Ryan, once a very good friend of Tim Ballard's. Also, I am dying for Thom Harrison to take some responsibility for the problems that Visions of Glory propagated. From deaths (Tylee, JJ, Tammy, Charles) and to Tim's alleged sexual abuse of several women to loss of money for those that put all their money into preparing for the end of times to just loss all around. How do we decipher from truth and from someone's so called visions? Of course in the LDS church, it all started with a vision. And that leads people to believe they have visions themselves. Or maybe their NDE's make some in the church believe that they have an opening to the other side. What get's into people's minds???? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sxo4ogVRiI
  8. I've thought about this on occasion, and then it comes to me if you could lie, and that's where I say nope, Calm wouldn't do that. Of course there are times people lie for the health and care of others... but I'll take your word for it. I just wanted to say how there are occasions for lying.
  9. The good ole' days! I wonder where they are now, those you mentioned.
  10. Depending on what religion is using these references I guess.
  11. Does the church still learn or post about the Lectures of Faith. I thought that was a discontinued reference.
  12. Good find. I wish the church would be more honest, and not worry about how something might look to the outside world. I'm speaking of Pres Hinckley's white lie, or in a sort of way, putting something out that may make it like it is so, when it's not. Speaking of him saying that the financials of the church belongs to those that pay their tithing to it. Which was quite a starling thing to say when it actually doesn't happen. And like this fiasco with the tithing, the sitting prophet/president should have not told a different story than what actually occurs/occurred, if I'm understanding correctly that it does use the tithing's interest? Or straight tithes?
  13. Thanks to @Calm you hopefully got the answer.
  14. Pres Hinckley was great about giving interviews about the church, I can't recall many of the prophets doing so. But one interview didn't sit well with me when he was asked about the church's financial transparency and he said that tithing information belongs to those who made the contribution, not the public. Is this another misunderstanding?
  15. Thank you Stormin! That's the one, Navidad. Okay, I think I've come back to senses I hope.
  16. Are you sure, that could have been Calm. But if you say so.
  17. I've just entered the Twilight Zone then. I could have sworn you are in Mexico and were once attending an LDS ward but not a member with your wife but then you quit going to the ward because of how you were treated towards the end. You were posting quite often, not just a few times a year. You also are a historian who even speaks at conferences, LDS ones too, like the Mormon History ones. Have I gone bonkers?
  18. I know for a fact of what you speak is true, with couples that suddenly have their spouse who becomes retired or my friends' retired at the same time, and then spend nearly 24/7 of their time together and it's not easy to deal with at all. I don't have a problem with retired people going on missions. My friends do and currently one friend and her husband have started doing a service mission while still living at home. I guess it just bothers me that the church that may have once hired paid lawyers etc. now make it a mission instead, if so. If that's the case, thought I saw missions for this and other job skills. Here's a link: https://seniormissionary.churchofjesuschrist.org/srsite/catalog-sub-item/13/133?lang=eng And a link to show the monthly fees that they would pay to donate their expertise: https://seniormissionary.churchofjesuschrist.org/srsite/ft/search?lang=eng But I have no room to talk. Especially if someone that was a lawyer would love to be of service in the church they love and want to support, becomes available with their expertise. My friend's parents did similar to your bishop and served in Nauvoo. The husband worked on things needing fixing. He's a retired rock installer for homes or landscaping. But now, I'm starting to feel a bit embarrassed and feel like I'm butting in where I don't belong.
  19. I'm sorry if I've lost my mind, but were you a member of the LDS church at one time. I thought you are a Mennonite.
  20. This is kind of bothersome to me, and with Calm's dad being asked to do that after he was retired like these attorneys. The church should just hire attorneys and other qualified people to do it and give people jobs.
