transublimination
Hello everyone and sorry to post here like this, being new and all, but I just don't know what to do. Earlier today my wife found this strange glass ball in our son's room. I don't even know what it is, but it doesn't look good. What is it? What does this mean? What should I do? Thanks for any help you all can provide in this difficult time. VID_61270829_030523_753.mp4 Link to comment
Calm
You need to ask him. It could just be because he thought it looked cool. I had some marijuana paraphernalia as a teen that I used on necklaces and in macrame. Ceramic discs with holes down the middle. Edited November 7 by Calm 1 Link to comment
Pyreaux
The ball probably means nothing. Its probably not a crystal ball for divination due to the symbols on it. As Wicca and Satanism are two different things, though the maker of the ball may not know that. The symbol is an inverted pentagram with a goat head which is a popular and very recognizable symbol used by fans of horror films, heavy metal music, in trendy gothic t-shirts, jewelry and tattoos. The goat head has no real power or ancient significance, the pentagram is thought to be neo-satanic imagery, but it is in many cultures, but based on medieval magician's use of "Solomon's circle". Even if he's spiritually confused, I'd take it as a positive sign he's spiritually searching. I would only be concerned by a small chance it's meant to be the symbol of the Church of Satan founded in 1966, because it's actually an Atheistic church. In the 1840s, an excommunicated monk named Levi wrote about the occult and claimed the upright pentagram is good, and inverted pentagram is bad (which was never true before, many older churches used it on buildings), he drew Davinci's Microcosm Man in the up right one and a goat head in the inverted one. The goat head was published in book A 1000 Images of Magic, where it was used by the Church of Satan in 1966 and then entered popular culture. Why a goat? A demon Azazel in the Book of Enoch is in Leviticus 16, but translated as the "scapegoat" The meaning of demonic Biblical "satyrs" is shaggy or goat spirits. So, in Christian art we get devils with goat horns and goat-t beards. 666 = Number of the beast in the Book of Revelations. Another common symbol used by more attention seekers than believers. VID_61270829_030523_753.mp4 It’s an occult Wiccan symbol called a ‘pentacle.’ Its 5 points symbolize earth, fire, water, air and spirit. In your son’s case, there may not be anything particularly sinister about it, as a teen may find it to be ‘cool’ in a mildly rebellious sort of way. 2 Link to comment
Pyreaux
Also, it was just Halloween, it's probably just a Halloween prop he saw, and it looked cool. Edited November 7 by Pyreaux 2 Link to comment

Tacenda
And the Salt Lake temple has that symbol on it, so it can't be all that bad. Link to comment

And saw the numbers 666. Which made me think of what just happened a few days ago. On FB a friend shared another's post about needing discarded Halloween pumpkins for their animals. I had bought too many that didn't get carved too. And got the address and when arriving I noticed it was right next door to my childhood home, and the man that lived there in his older age, would sexually abuse girls that would get treats from him after school. He lived near the school. Luckily I wasn't but he did expose himself to a group of us. And we ran off, at the time, he lived in some old apartments behind the large home. And on the curb was the address 666 of the large old house! I had never realized. We moved when I was four and returned to another street when I was going into 5th grade and when the abuse happened. If you can't generate enough heat to melt it, then a sledgehammer is another good option. Edited November 7 by TheTanakas Link to comment

If there was no prior concern and things are going well and it was found because she was putting away laundry or grabbing some dirty dishes etc then just ask him. If there are other concerns and she was searching his room for trouble then it is really going to depend on how old he is and your relationship with him and your rules already set in place. In any event do more listening with love for understanding than talking. 1 Link to comment
rpn
My advice it to simply ask your child about this. No point in speculating. And no reason to overreact either. Ask him about what it is and what the numbers mean to him. Ask him what he plans to do with it. Whether he's asked his friends about it or talked to his friends about it. None of us can protect our children (specially teens) against everything. So it is important to teach both not to go off the deep end about stuff right away AND how to course correct when appropriate. 3 Link to comment
