I was thinking more of the casting than the actual storylines. When Voyager came out back in 1995 there were several people, myself included, who thought they were leaning a bit too hard on the political correctness button (e.g., female captain, native american first officer, black vulcan, etc.). I don't remember anyone being "up in arms" about the show or anything, but I do remember thinking that the multiculturalism felt kind of forced. And I think that's probably how an animated female admiral in a Disney movie would have been perceived back in that time frame as well - not as anything to be really bothered by, but maybe perceived as a bit of forced political correctness. 25 minutes ago, Calm said: Did people get upset with Lost World? Yes, but mainly because there weren't enough people being eaten by dinosaurs. It didn't bother me at all however - nor did it even seem out of character - that the guy who was "always on the lookout for a future ex-Mrs. Malcolm" would have been involved in a racially mixed relationship. Or more than one for that matter. His character came off very James Bond-like in that respect.

Movies seem to be focused mainly on presenting life-like depictions of ideas presented in books and adding ideas that weren't in the books. My imagination almost entirely lacks pictures so I can usually only complain about inaccuracies and changes. 2

Having read the synopsis, I think the fact they aren’t married would attract more attention….though maybe not. I can’t remember the relationship that much, the girlfriend, Harding?, wasn’t the mother…did they say who the mom was and the relationship? Biological and divorced? Biological and not married? Adopted? Step? But I looked at a movie list with interracial couples and it looks like it would have been viewed as almost cutting edge (kids being involved with one partner at least adds in some boundary pushing because you now have a white woman trying to assume a mother role to a black girl right rather than two adults as just romantic partners, the problem of commenting on something I have so few memories of is I don’t have a clue about the relationship between Dad, Daughter and Girlfriend). I don’t pay attention too much to reactions to movies and really didn’t back then plus was in Canada, so I don’t know if that translated to protests or not Edited July 1, 2022 by Calm
The Nehor Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 Don’t sexualize our children! Also children are sex offenders and require notice! It is the kid in the class with HIV all over again.
Calm Posted July 2, 2022 Posted July 2, 2022 (edited) Well, 1/3 of all child abusers are juveniles themselves and child on child abuse is apparently more likely to occur in school or group settings than adult on child abuse, but that type of warning should be attached to all kids, not just lgbt+ if there is any warning at all. (The world is such as sad and tragic place at times.) https://www.wksexcrimes.com/practice-areas/child-on-child-sexual-abuse/ Quote Facts About Child On Child Sexual Abuse Has your child been wrongly accused of a juvenile sex offense? According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP)1, facts regarding child on child sexual abuse are as follows: Juveniles account for more than one-third (35.6%) of those known to law enforcement to have committed sex offenses against other minors; Child on child sexual abuse is more likely than adult sex offenses to occur in groups and at schools; Child on child sexual abuse tends to involve more male and younger victims; The percentage of child on child sexual abuse is highest between ages 15 and 17; Child on child sexual abuse most often occurs in the home (68% of the time), somewhat less than that of adult sex offenses (80%); Offenses against teenagers are typically higher among mid to late adolescence while offenses against victims under the age of 12 are typically lower; About 1 out of every 8 juvenile offenders is under the age of 12; and Child on child sexual abuse comprises more than one-quarter (25.8%) of all sex offenses. Those who have been identified as having committed child on child sexual abuse cover a broad age range: 5% are under the age of 9 years; 16% are less than 12 years old; 38% are between ages of 12 and 14; 46% are between ages 15 and 17; and 93% are male. Juveniles identified as having committed child on child sexual abuse are more likely than adults to do the following: Offend in groups with one or more co-offenders (24% for juveniles versus 14% for adults); Offend at a school (12% versus 2%); Commit sodomy (13% versus 7%) and fondling (49% versus 42%); Target younger children under the age of 12 (59% versus 39%); and Victimize males (25% versus 13%) Minors are less likely than adults to commit rape (24% versus 31%). Like adults, minors will sexually offend in the privacy of the home (about 69% of the time) more often than in public places. Edited July 2, 2022 by Calm

There were multiple displays and dozen of books featured promoting everything from cross dressing, to pronoun choices, to trans life, and all aspects of LGBTQ variations. And I'm talking books for 4 year olds, not teens. Dozens upon dozen of picture books so kindergartners can be aware of all the sexual variations out there. But it's ok because they aren't explicit. 🙄

I am going to worry much more about the kids who are likely to be bullied by the other kids (and quite possibly their parents as well) instead of books you can just choose not to buy. 1

Bottom line is I don't want my son told it's ok for him to wear women's clothing or my daughter to be told she can choose to be a boy. Because it's not ok. It's evil, period. And I can't wait for God to end it. 1

For me, the first time I wore temple clothing was much more uncomfortable than when my middle school friends convinced me to wear drag with them for Halloween. I got used to the temple clothing pretty quickly and am fine with it now. I’m sure I’d be fine with just wearing robes too if I lived in christs day. Clothing is purely a social construct. Nothing eternal. Heck, Moroni show up in Joseph’s bedroom with nothing on but a bathrobe. If we can get comfortable with that picture, drag shouldn’t bother us. 3
