It'd be nice if Disney provided a conservative version for American conservatives like they do for China.  Why do they not do that given that it would more than likely make them more money?

So people go to the movie theater and buy tickets for the censored and uncensored versions. The censored one is half a second shorter.

Wow, huh. I assume she will be booted out of the party as a pedophile supporting deviant and be ejected from polite society for deliberately sexualizing her own kids.

Spoilers: I don’t actually assume this.

Pretty much. The drag performer who reported this did so pretty publicly with photographs including Kari Lake dressed in drag style with the performer and several more of them together. The performer was hired to be Marilyn Monroe at the children’s party. Kari Lake’s campaign admits this happens but tries to argue that this was hiring him as an impersonator and not a drag performer. So i guess it is not drag when you dress as a specific woman.

Kari Lake is trying to get a cease and desist but I doubt it will work.

If you click through to the video in the top tweet it is the video made by the performer presenting photos and communications establishing the two were friends and that Kari Lake had no problem with drag performers until the propagandists decided they were all “groomers” whatever that word is supposed to mean at this point.

I can confirm that Kari Lake is a glory seeking loon.

Seems Sinema leans that way a bit too.  But I really like her quirky style.  And anyone who openly admits she to pursuading Republican senators with the strategic use of cleavage, is ok in my book.

Enjoy it while it lasts. She is not getting another term.

Is Arizona okay? Seems like you have a lot of these lately.

Seriously, man. Lake, Biggs, Gosar. This is insane.

I'll wager serious money on this.  Send me a message.

I don’t trust you to pay up. She has over a 50% disapproval rate in her own party. She won’t make it to the general election.

I'll give you 10:1 odds.

Thanks, but no. I am about 95% sure I am right so I should take it.

On the other hand gambling is a very minor sin and when I sin I like to go for the big ones.

We could finalize our bet on Temple Square grounds.  I think that qualifies as a big sin.

Yeah, but even when I go for the big sins I want to go for the fun ones.

Toy story 1 takes place in 1995. Buzz light year was supposed to be a starwars equivalent for the toy story universe.

There is NO way a movie released in 1995 would have been as widely accepted as StarWars if it had a gay kiss

I saw the movie last night and had the same thought. If this were really the movie that Andy saw in 1995, then Commander Alisha Hawthorne's life partner would have been a man rather than a woman.

And 1995 religious conservatives would be up in arms that the movie depicted a woman with a career who was in an interracial relationship(!). Same self-righteousness. Different issues.

Would they have?  I was in Canada in ‘95, but that seems like a 15-20 year overestimate of when any significant noise was made about working women (they don’t show her as a mother of younger kids, right? I have just seen the clip) or interracial relationships.  No doubt there were and are extremists that are still bothered by that, but ‘95 seems way too late for that to be typical of religious conservatives.

In '95 I would expect such a setup to garner complaints about overt political correctness (al la Star Trek Voyager), but I don't think anybody would be "up in arms" over it.

Right…responses to Star Trek variations and what social issues they were highlighting over the years would be a good way to track public feeling given the reputation of the ST franchise of at least wanting to look like they were pushing the boundaries (whether they did or not in later ones can be debated, imo).

Perhaps. I was aiming for rhetorical effect more than precision on when people exhibited moral outrage about the various details of other people's families.

But as to your question, the answer is (spoiler alert) wrong. The bi-racial, same-sex couple in the movie who exchange a brief on-screen kiss do eventually have a family with kids. Disney easily could have made a 1995 version where the black high-ranking military officer who heads the family is a woman, and the husband was a white, full-time, stay-at-home dad.

Thinking about the sensibilities of conservatives in the mid 90's brings to mind The Lost World: Jurassic Park, which came out in 1997. In Lost World, Hollywood attacks traditional family values by showing a glimpse of the family makeup of Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). In the movie, Ian's daughter Kelly (Vanessa Lee Chester) is black(!).

Did people get upset with Lost World?  Besides the fact who lets their kids get near free ranging dinosaurs? (Went and read a recap, she stowed away…) The only thing I remember of Lost World is the daughter’s bar routine, can’t even remember why she was doing it…to knock out a raptor perhaps?  Shows you where my priorities were as a kid and an adult, gymnastics over dinosaurs any day.). Oh, and the idiocy of bringing a TRex into port of a major city.  Did they never watch a Godzilla movie in their youth?

I don't know how people reacted. I remember seeing a news story about it where they said they were trying to be edgy with this detail, but I honestly don't know if anybody took the bait.
