Easily wounded feelings mistaken for racism. Who decides the level of wound?

We have had several covid threads complete with dueling studies. I considered adding to one but thought this article and up to date stats might just give good info on comparing vaccinated  vs  unvaccinated folks . Alberta has a population of about 4.5 million and is about 70% vaccinated. It is currently experiencing a surge in Delta cases which is filling ICUs etc. Politicians are scrambling to cope. The link below shows the situation up to mid Sept. and compares by age group and vax status. It is worth careful study of the numbers in all the comparison charts. Yes , I know, stats can be eye glazing but they might also cut through the , let's just say , extracurricular info we get,

These charts show how much more often unvaccinated Albertans are being hospitalized and dying from COVID-19 (msn.com)

A year ago in Sept 2020, when nobody was vaccinated, Alberta had 18 in the ICU due to Covid. They now have 243 in the ICU due to Covid. Only two things have changed over the past year, the Delta variant and the mass vaccination program. The Media is telling us the hospitals are full of the "unvaccinated" but In order to attribute this surge solely to the Delta variant you would have to assume that hospitals have experienced a massive 1250% increase in ICU patients over the past year that are coming from just 1/4 of the population, or in other words the Delta variant is exponentially more deadly (It's not, and no papers anywhere support this). In other words the numbers don't add up. B.C is following the exact same trend and has vaccinated close to 80% of its population

I like how you blew right past the generations of people affected en masse and zeroed right in on the easily wounded feels.

It is, however, much more infectious and therefore with many more infections, even if no more deadly there will still be an increase in serious cases.  It is not like we are talking about thousands of beds in a hospital are ICU beds.  According to this page, we are talking around 250 ICU beds devoted to Covid with over a million unvaccinated as a pool to fill them (assuming a majority of the severe hospitalized are unvaccinated there).

AHS said Thursday afternoon there are currently 268 total patients in Alberta ICUs, with 83 per cent of them receiving treatment for COVID-19. The province has added 137 additional ICU beds to deal with the demand, giving it 86 per cent capacity. But without those additional surge spaces, provincial ICU capacity would sit at 155 per cent.

There has been a 16 per cent increase in ICU admissions in Alberta over the past week, the steepest such climb at any point during the pandemic

It likely is…

Canadian research shows COVID patients with the Delta variant are significantly more likely to be hospitalised…

Canadian research into COVID-19 variants found a person with Delta is almost twice as likely as someone with the Alpha variant to be hospitalised.

They are one-and-a-half times as likely to die.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-09-21/doherty-institute-vaccine-covid-modelling-delta-outbreaks/100477998

The new research is stated to be from the University of Toronto, I will try and find a reference.

The Canadian study, by University of Toronto epidemiologists David Fisman and Ashleigh Tuite, looked at the outcomes of more than 200,000 people in Ontario infected with COVID in the first half of this year. At the time, Delta was an emerging variant but not yet the dominant strain of the North American epidemic.

The study found that people infected with Delta were twice as likely to end up in hospital, three times as likely to require intensive care and 2.32 times more likely to die from COVID than people infected with the original strain of the virus.

Looks like some of the beds may have been occupied due to foolishness.

It's like 1 million O'clock. Don't you get up for Church tomorrow?

No, I usually sleep starting from around 5-7 AM and am deepest probably around 8-9 given how I tend to wake up throughout the morning. Church is at 10:30. If I force myself to wake up, I am quite nauseous and don’t get much out of the broadcast unfortunately and I can’t get back to sleep afterwards.  I tend to be functional around 2 PM these days. It was around 12 before.  It is quite frustrating given this would otherwise be a great opportunity to see church when I can’t usually attend for other reasons…but the main reason I haven’t gone is nausea when I first wake up, originally likely due to drugs and now it is much worse due to Meniere’s. Fun, fun, fun.

According to this only 62% are fully vaccinated in Alberta, not 80%.

If you are going to accuse someone of fudging numbers, it works best when you don’t do the same thing.

Much has changed from a year ago in terms of COVID burnout and large gatherings, less social distancing, concerts, sporting events, churches being open etc.  Throw in Delta and you get a mess.  Also, for whatever reason you were at the bottom of a peak post spike in Sep. last year, ICU numbers were much higher in April 2020.

What is your explanation or theory?  Are they in cahoots with the US government and basically all other nations in a global conspiracy to fudge hospitalization numbers in order to justify global mask mandates and shutdowns?   I’m sorry, but a conspiracy on such a global level would require some serious cooperation, negotiation, united vision/agreement, and organization between world governments with competent world leaders who could carry out a conspiracy on such an enormous global scale, which includes the involvement of all hospital systems and local health departments.  We are talking about the same politicians, right?  We can’t even get organizations within our local health department to coordinate and cooperate on that level, let alone with all other counties, states, and foreign governments, with the cooperation of hospitals and their staff.

My Polish heritage is rife with crnturies of oppression, destruction, mass slaughter, invasion, enslavement at the hands of others. How angry should you and I be?

At least I get the option of upvoting this, instead of liking it.

Looked up Meniere's. All the symptoms are super familiar to me (independently). However, I go months w/o any of them except the ever present tinnitus. I'd say I fall short of understanding what your days are like but maybe I can appreciate it some.

If I lived in Poland, in a culture built out of those atrocities, with my life - and my parents, siblings & children's lives - still being shaped by them on a daily basis. I'd be fairly cheesed. Maybe enough to take on a 2nd hard life to change it.

Those are “my people.” How offended should I be? You implied I didn’t care about generations of oppression because I didn’t comment on it.

My take here is you looking to attach offense to some legalistic equation. I don't know why you would want to do that.

I’m not doing that at all, but it’s hard to focus when one is driving through downtown Montreal.

I'm not a fan of historic collective guilt. Individual suffering is more important to me. You are free to disagree, but please do ascribe ulterior motives.

I'm not a fan of the consequences of mistreating my kids but those consequences are part of reality and aren't interested in my opinion.

I got my numbers for Alberta from the Alberta.ca website. It shows 82.3% have taken one dose and 73.4% fully vaccinated. There seems to be a discrepancy across different websites but I wasn't purposely "fudging the numbers" as you suggested

As far as a Global conspiracy goes Satan is very cunning and smart, you don't think he would be able to pull off a conspiracy on a global scale, considering he's probably done this many many times before? It doesn't require mass cooperation across all levels of Governments involving thousands of people and if one person spills the beans the whole thing falls apart. All it requires is a small group at the top of some of these NGO's to create global policy and everybody follows suit and toes the line for fear of losing their jobs.  Of course there are and have been whistleblowers but they are quickly dismissed and/or discredited by the propagandist mainstream media

I'm not sure how people can't see what's happening here considering these same people attempted this before in 2009 with the Swine Flu but failed after they got called out by the Council of Europe.

If a satanic conspiracy in in play, the tells will be piles of corpses and the easily malleable people who enabled that.

Satan isn’t smart. People aren’t that easily controllable. Sure, some are venal but they always end up turning on each other. There is no global conspiracy. There are a bunch of little conspiracies beating each other up and exposing each other. The warning about secret combinations isn’t to figure them out. They are obvious. The warning is not to join them.

Satan isn't smart? People aren't that easily controllable? Where have you been the last 18 months? I still see people daily driving around alone in their cars with masks on lol. I'm going to have to 100% disagree with you on that one

People are very controllable, they just do what they see others doing

Satan is cunning but he isn’t smart. I don’t see a lot of new ideas coming from the great tempter. Same old, same old.

People are susceptible to manipulation but hard to control in an exact manner. Looney conspiracy theories are based on the idea that master geniuses can predict what people will do ten steps in advance and it never works that way in reality.

As to someone wearing a mask alone in their car by driving being proof that Satan is smart and people are controllable…..that is just dumb. I have done it. I had a really short trip between two places I had to be masked so why would I remove it and just have to put it back on. The mockery of people wearing masks in cars is common and has clearly manipulated you. How does it feel to be a pawn of Satan in his great “laugh at people masked in cars” conspiracy that will overthrow all freedom everywhere somehow……?
