smac97 Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Here: Quote New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently issued an executive citation to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Joseph Smith’s First Vision. “In April of 1820, Joseph Smith, a young man from a local farming family experienced a holy vision in a grove near the small village of Palmyra in western New York,” the citation notes. It adds, “Smith’s translation of sacred scripture led to the publication of the Book of Mormon in 1830, and the birth of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” both of which also took place in New York. Cuomo also noted the church’s “glorious past” and “bright future” in the executive chamber citation, which he signed on Nov. 20. Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles received the citation on behalf of the church earlier this month, according to a news release issued Tuesday. “Given its unique role as the site for the beginnings of the Restoration, we are grateful in this bicentennial year for the goodwill and recognition conferred by the state of New York,” Elder Christofferson said in an Instagram post. “We’re grateful for the foundations of the church beginning in New York,” he added in a statement released by the church. “There weren’t many places in the world where it could have happened, and that was one. … We look back after 200 years and express gratitude for those beginnings and for the present and for what is to come.” Nice. Thanks, -Smac 4
strappinglad Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 I hope the Church didn't ASK for this. Who promoted this ??
Calm Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 (edited) It is just in Deseret and church news so far, and nothing explains what triggered it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone who worked for the Governor came up with it as a thank you for the food donations this year, which were originally meant as a way to celebrate the restoration apparently https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/new-york-food-donations-completed-bicentennial-restoration Edited December 23, 2020 by Calm 1

When Missouri Gov. Kit Bond rescinded Boggs’s Extermination Order, it was not at the behest of the Church of Jesus Christ. Someone in Missouri who was a member of the Reorganized Church set that in motion. 1

I count among of my greatest blessings: having been born and raised in Manhattan, attending the 1964 World's Fair where I first came across the Church at the Man's Search for Happiness pavilion, moving to upstate New York where I received my testimony and later joined the Church attending college not too far from Palmyra, and all the many associated experiences as I matured in the Gospel among the saints of New York. 5

Cool, I didn't know you were a convert. I feel bad when I read things like this when I've said anything hurtful about the church. I was merely born into it, and didn't have that kind of conversion.

The Reorganized Church of Satanism, inc. I donated to their “Toys for Little Demons” drive. They felt asking the governor to recognize the First Vision was the least they could do. 1
