Meadowchik Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Cat story! https://edition.cnn.com/style/article/nazca-lines-peru-cat/index.html Quote A huge feline figure carved into an arid hillside over 2,000 years ago has been discovered in southern Peru, according to the country's Ministry of Culture. The ancient geoglyph, which measures 37 meters (121 feet) across, forms part of the Nazca Lines, a collection of hundreds of mysterious artworks etched onto a plateau 250 miles south of Lima. The cat joins an array of other zoomorphic drawings found across the region's landscape over the last century, including depictions of a hummingbird, a monkey and a pelican. The discovery was made during maintenance work at a visitor vantage point in what is already a popular tourist destination. 3

rodheadlee Posted October 20, 2020 Author Posted October 20, 2020 (edited) My female cat is bringing mice onboard the boat. She brings them in and then set sets them loose and has great fun chasing them all around the boat. I am chasing them with her with a cup and a lid trying to catch them. When the mouse finally gets away and crawls in some hole she gets bored and stops. Then she is like don't worry Dad I know where to get more of those. I put some Humane mouse traps out and caught three of them so far. One Mouse is smart enough to go in and get the food and get back out. At night we can hear them eating our boat. I hope I got them all. Edited October 20, 2020 by rodheadlee 4

I hope I got them all. There are so many stories I could tell like this, although I'm not on a boat (that would be bad). Cat #1: One of my kids found a pregnant mother cat abandoned at the local community college and brought it home. We raised the kittens she had until they were old enough to give away. One of her kittens grew up to be quite a hunter. She was a small cat, very small framed, but that didn't deter her at all in her hunting skills (I think it may have been an advantage). One day we heard a terrible noise coming from the area where we had our pet door, and the cat was struggling to pull a live pigeon, squawking and screaming, through the pet door. The bird out-sized the cat by about one third of the cat's size, but she managed to do it anyway. We had fun trying to get the live pigeon out of the house. Cat #2: The following two stories are about the same cat that is shown in the "Love Your Enemies" photo posted earlier in this thread. She was also a hunter, and she was relatively small in size too. I could tell a lot of stories about her hunting skills, but here are two of them: The first story: One night I was up working late at home, and I heard the cat come through the pet door and into our master bedroom, and then I heard something like a small helicopter sound coming from the bedroom. I went in to see what was going on, and she brought in a moth with a nine inch wing span (I'm not kidding, I measured it) and she let it go in our room. My wife was asleep and I don't know how she managed to sleep through the commotion, because the cat was literally trying to climb the walls to re-catch the moth, with the moth sounding like a miniature military helicopter the whole time. I finally caught the moth in a container just above the headboard of the bed where my wife was sleeping, and I had to keep the cat from jumping on her so she wouldn't wake up. I kept the moth in the container until the next morning so I could prove the size of the moth to my wife and others (who would believe there is such a thing as a moth with a nine inch wingspan?). I proved my case and congratulated my wife for being such a sound sleeper. The second story: Your story above reminded me of this one. In the community where we live there has been a relatively recent influx of roof rats into the parts of town that have citrus trees. We don't have citrus trees so we have never encountered these pests, but there are some farm type homes near where we live that do have citrus trees. These rats aren't known for entering homes, but we were surprised to learn from the washing machine repairman that some of the hoses on our new washing machine had been gnawed through, and it was likely caused by a rat. We first thought that a rat had entered the home through the hole in the wall where the washer drain goes, and so we plugged it up and set out a rat trap. We finally caught the rat, and it was a full grown roof rat. We were concerned that we had a problem until one night when the cat came through the pet door and we heard some meowing (i.e "look what I have" sounds) and she had dropped a fully grown dead roof rat on the floor of our bedroom (fortunately she killed that one before bringing it in). We then realized how the rat that was in our laundry room got into the house. In the next couple of weeks the cat brought in at least two baby roof rats and let them loose in our house alive. Fortunately we caught her in the act each time she brought in the live baby rats and were able to track them down and remove them. Needless to say we started locking the pet door at night from that time forward (the cat hated that). Apparently she was going down the street a ways to do her hunting and was bringing her trophies home to us. Sadly that cat passed away from old age two years ago, but now we no longer need to keep our pet door closed at night and haven't had a problem with rats since. 3
Garden Girl Posted October 21, 2020 Posted October 21, 2020 One time I was riding with Ray in the high desert, passing a group of med. mountains... He told me to turn around and look back at this one section... the crevice in the mountain filled with sand and formed a large natural image of a cat... locals called it "Cronies' Cat... (a sitting cat, viewed from behind... ears, head, round body. tail). It really was amazing how the crevice formed such a perfect image from blowing sand. GG 2

I haven’t bonded with pets enough and having to disinfect the pantry and kitchen when I am behind in other tasks is just not tolerable thinking about. Now I need to explain why I am so hard hearted and proclaim ‘it is not my fault!’. I think my pet hang up came from my parents’ not being willing to adjust for our pets’ needs, whether it was giving the dog that was my bosom buddy as a toddler up to 7 years old from what I have been told away when we moved without allowing us to say goodbye because they didn’t want to deal with the tears I am guessing...wonder now if they just took him to the pound, or taking the new puppy back the next day because the young ones fought to play with it, or my dad terminating my bird without telling me rather than either parent just asking around to see if anyone wanted it like they said they would (after being assured my bird went to a good home, I found it stiff in the garbage can, right there when I lifted the lid). Also fear for them being sick after having one parakeet die in my hand when I was six.

Yeah, on a boat I think I would be doing that too since there's no pet door that you can close at night. Although you could anchor the boat about nine feet from the dock. That might be enough, unless you have the cat that can teleport or catapult. 2

We put ours in the car right away with no cat cage. You want them to get used to it. Get a female cat, boy cats are hunters and they will roam. Keep a cat blanket in your car. We have two cat blankets that we move from the boat to the car. We thought our girl cat was going to go feral on us but she has turned into a great little companion. Have patience, we discipline them by telling them they are good cats when they do something right. We never Strike them we use a water squirter if we have to discipline. We keep a permanent litter box in the car and one in the boat. They drink water out of a cup on the bathroom sink. Edited October 23, 2020 by rodheadlee 1

I thought for sure she would be the one to break the curse. Second day we had her, she gets sick with kennel cough. The next three days she stays on my lap or chest with me 24/7 except when she is in the nebulizer tent getting her medication with me praying (and I mean exactly that) she isn’t suffering as bad as it seems and that she doesn’t die. She survives. Very healthy as beagles tend to be until 5 years later when she eats something in the yard and starts throwing up and getting raspberry jam diarrhea. Since it is the weekend, we can’t take her to the vet around the corner and instead a place about 40 minutes away where she stays overnight. We then carefully nurse her back and she isn’t sick again until she gets arthritis and begins hobbling around in pain. In between all of that is a sweet, playful beautiful dog, but all I can think about when I look at her is when is the next crisis going to come. Just can’t get out of that mindset with any pet we get.

Just can’t get out of that mindset with any pet we get. I hear you Calm. I adopted a mixed terrier, white with brown liver spots, several years ago. She was three when we got her, and a few short years later she started doing the same thing your dog did with the diarrhea and also blood clots. I wondered if it was something she may have eaten in the yard like your dog. We took her to the vet many times and she was treated with meds, the vet said there was nothing they could do, short of operating to see what was going on inside. She was only about 6 years old by then. One day she wandered to the very back of our yard, she never did this before, and laid there waiting to die. We then took her to the vet and had her put down. Our second dog, we'd only had cats, was a little Yorkie who ran in front of a car while my husband and I were vacationing in Oregon. My son who was in charge while we were away was about to take him on a walk and just before he put the leash on, my little Biscuit ran across the street in attack mode against a much larger dog. My son literally laid in the road sobbing, he felt so bad. My neighbor was able to help him and get Biscuit to our vet who looked after him all through the night and then he died. I've never cried so hard the evening after I received the call, more than I believe I've cried for a human. It was so difficult. Now I've continually looked for another pet, but not sure I want to go through the pain when they die.
