why me Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 (edited) I have been out of action for quite some time due to the 403 Forbidden page that appears quite often when I try to get on the board. There seems to be a glitch in the system. I will need to close the computer soon and I am sure that the next time I access the board it will say Forbidden 403. And I will be gone for another two weeks.
Calm Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 Happens every now and again, I had it a few times for a half day. One time the whole board got it, iirc. Other than it happening with a post, which generally means some word**** or combination of word or coding is being blocked by censor, I don't think anyone has been able to figure out why. Sometimes it helps to change tech being used or try posting from a different location (you might be blocked when at home or when you are not at home and able to post the reverse). I can't remember anyone saying whether or not moderators were able to help them to fix the problem, but that is the route I would go. If you can access the board sometimes, report yourself if contact admin doesn't work (that has glitches in the past, don't know now). If you can't access the board at all, if you know someone off board, you could ask them to "report" one of your old posts for you. But I really don't know if mods can do anything. ****Used to happen constantly with me with drug names, now not so much.

Yes, one can occasionally be accidentally blocked from the board. Happened to me a couple years ago. Calm helped me get back on.
mfbukowski Posted February 23, 2020 Posted February 23, 2020 It happened to me on a regular basis for a few hours every day. No explanation. I thought as a time that it was because the board was being under maintenance or whatever.

I think I 'reported' you and a few other posters and at least one showed up pretty quickly, so mods are likely to be able to do something most of the times. Thinking back eons to when I was a mod on another board, we had to be careful to have a narrow ip range as otherwise we would ban more than the one person with the up address we wanted to target. ( would just like to see that message presented a little better, maybe with more information about why whoever gets it has been Forbidden. Maybe something like this: with an explanation about why what was said was considered Forbidden knowledge or something Forbidden to talk about. Or maybe like this: to signify that whoever gets it has reached Forbidden status. Or maybe like this: to signify that the problem is with computer software and unrelated to anything whoever gets the Forbidden message has said: Or maybe like this: with the pig replaced by the Avatar of the person who gets the Forbidden message, signifying that they are no longer welcome to post on the board for any reason anymore, at any time, whatsoever. it seems a little strange to me, too, that people who get the message are all getting the number 403. Maybe the counter is busted or the software just isn't capable of changing the number for each person who gets the message. Surely the number is more than 403 by now, if it alludes to how many people have received the message or the number of times someone who received the Forbidden message has been Forbidden from posting or logging onto the board. Maybe someday we can get some better software on this board to help clarify things and make the system work better for everyone who decides to post here.

Too much technical jargon for me to understand. I need someone else to tell me what all of those words mean, in layman's terms. Is there a book for Dummies about Forbidden 403 error messages?

I don't post that much anymore and I do have rather calm posts. I just think that there is a glitch somewhere and it has been there for quite some time. And I am not the only one. Not sure if the board owners can do something about it, in general. 2
