longview Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 When I first tried out the annotations/notes feature in Gospel Library I transferred all of my highlights from my hardcopy scriptures into notes/tags/links. I love being able to use different colors for underlinings and highlightings and entering my thoughts in the annotations. After completing a major section (OT, NT, BoM, D&C, PoG) I would make a complete review of the notes before starting on the next section. After a while the notes became so large that I frequently would lose my place (bookmarks are not provided within notes) because of software quirks (I never could read all the way to the end of notes without the glitches). Later I discovered the notebooks feature. In hopes of making my notes less bulky, I decided to break up the notes into separate notebooks that are smaller and more manageable. The ten notebooks are labelled OT [split into 3 parts], NT [split into 2 parts], BoM [split into 3 parts], D&C, PoG with no overlap between them. In the desktop version of annotation/notes there was a special notebook that contained "unassigned" entries (all my entries initially were placed there). I used it to transfer the entries into the appropriate "assigned" notebook. It took me several weeks to transition my notes before I noticed that the IT dept took it away from the desktop. I was able find the obsoleted website so I could hurriedly continue with the reassignments but IT took that away after a couple weeks. How frustrating! I am going to write to IT feedback to request the features I need: allow search to operate on current page, current chapter, current book at the user's specification before scanning the whole library (more intelligent and specific search parameters for the different parts of lds.org). allow search to work within notes. enable notes to be sortable by scripture reference (or reordered by drag and drop placements). enable bookmarking in notes. bring back the "unassigned" notebook. all of the above should work for tags as well. enable entire annotations/notes to be copied into 3rd party computer files (shareable, currently only small snippets can be shared). the desktop version of annotation/notes is very cumbersome. Please change the format so the headings and/or notes can be rapidly scrolled through. 3

I remember typing term papers in high school with footnotes. ONE mistake and you start over because smudges were not allowed. Now if there were smudges on the carbon that was YOUR copy so it was less serious. Smudges were Not in the style manual. "After all it is not professional to present a report professionally if it is full of smudges!! And this is the time you need to learn how to do that!" It was a different world! And so it has been, but it still isn't as good as it used to be.

Vance Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Just tried to go into "classic" again and now it sends me to the more worthless Spanish language version. 🤬
Vance Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 Must have been a glitch of some kind, now it is back to the useless English version.
JAHS Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 I used to be able to search for a specific scripture and the search would take me to the scripture and highlight it and then I would have a url link to that highlighted scripture that I can use elsewhere to refer to that scripture. I can't see how to do that now. Now the search only takes me to the chapter the verse is in and does not highlight the specific scripture verse. Anyone else know how to do this now?

The website for wordcruncher.com has been updated to look more modern, plus future tutorial videos for new users will be added as time allows. A similar design will soon replace LDS View as well. Let me know if you have any specific questions or comments on how to improve WordCruncher at wordcruncher@byu.edu.

We're doing our best to reach out to users to see what they like and don't like about your software. The next build for Windows is going to have a lot of new features and updates, including a part-of-speech tagged version of the scriptures. (Previously, we couldn't embed a part of speech into a word.) We're updating and refreshing some reports to use more current statistic analyses, and ripping out some of the code that makes the interface look outdated. As for your earlier comment about the Church's search function, we have been working with the Scripture Committee a little to get their search function in the right direction.

So, when we have speakers reference a talk, or some other thing from LDS.org, I often just give up looking, because what they referenced, is no longer the source they are quoting. 1
