strappinglad Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 T or F Ward Choirs no longer around, because of new 2 hour schedule ?? Boy, another one bites the dust!!
10THAmendment Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 I haven't heard anything about that but I'm not sure that the 2 hour block would eliminate the ward choir. It's still practical that they could rehearse Sunday evening or even a night during the week. That said, nobody sings in the ward choir anyway 😋

Duncan Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 We have had off and on ward choirs, depending on interest 1

Boy, another one bites the dust!! F 2. What is the format for sacrament meetings? Sacrament meetings last 60 minutes and are focused on deepening conversion to Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ and strengthening faith in Them. Allowing the ordinance of the sacrament to be the sacred center of members’ worship on the Sabbath requires careful planning, including minimal announcements and consideration of speakers, hymns, and musical numbers. Ward choirs may participate as local circumstances allow. Sacrament meetings begin and end with a hymn and prayer. A hymn also precedes the blessing of the sacrament. Sacrament meeting will be followed by 10 minutes to transition to classes. https://www.lds.org/study/manual/frequently-asked-questions-october-6-2018/faq-october-6-2018?lang=eng Edited December 13, 2018 by ksfisher 7
Popular Post Amulek Posted December 13, 2018 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2018 I thought they were sticking around, just with new names (e.g., The Choir at Freedom Second Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). 5

Special choirs for special occasions would be fine, but a full time choir no. I can stand corrected as it came from a current choir member. Church wide policy ???

JAHS Posted December 13, 2018 Posted December 13, 2018 This statement is still on the official church website: Ward Choirs Every ward should make an effort to have an active ward choir that sings in sacrament meeting at least once a month. Ward members may participate voluntarily in the choir, or the bishopric may invite or call them to participate. The bishop and his counselors support a ward choir by encouraging members to participate and by making available a rehearsal time that is free of other ward conflicts.MUSIC CALLINGS / CHOIRS And our ward choir is still practicing on Sunday's 2
strappinglad Posted December 13, 2018 Author Posted December 13, 2018 Maybe it is just a faith demoting rumor and decided on a ward basis only. 1

There’s nothing I’m aware of so far to indicate such a Churchwide policy. And it sounds like you’re not certain of anything beyond a local scope.

At least 3 ward choirs may take a major hit just due to the inconvenience, but I'll wait and see how this goes.

I have a hard time believing that, where most of you seem to live, a trip back to the chapel in the afternoon is going to be much of an inconvenience. That's precisely what our ward choir members do (and will do), and the chapel is about 10 to 20 km away from most of them. Edited December 14, 2018 by Hamba Tuhan 1

Ward choirs can be a tremendous unifying factor in a ward. Regardless of who you are outside the ward or what your calling is all can be members of the choir. Members of the choir join together as one voice in praising God. As mentioned before, participation in voluntary. Members of the choir, as they sing sacred music, are taught by the Spirit. Music in church is just as non-essential as green leaves, birds singing, and children playing. Choirs are one of the flowers in the Lord’s garden. Music plays a vital part in our worship services. Ward choirs help to amplify the role of music in worship. They provide beauty, variety, and a means for members to develope and improve their talents. I could go on. Ours practices in the relief society room when we have the early schedule, the chapel when we are last. It’s a shame if their isn’t an unused room (with a piano) in your building.

With 4 wards of people trying to pass through our narrow halls, there is the promise of traffic jams. I'd like to float above it all in samadhi, but (alas) didn't get my diploma from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in occult powers (TM siddhi).

We need more music in my opinion. 1
