I understand the move but I'm kind of disappointed that we will have less priesthood sessions

That’s how my husband feels.

My favorite ice cream place, Farr’s in City Creek, where I would take my boys after we attended the priesthood session in the Conference Center, went out of business this year.

And I learn here that they are canceling one of the two semi-annual priesthood sessions.

And my boys have grown older and are no longer interested in coming downtown to attend the session with me, especially now that they can view it at home on TV.

And now I can no longer get priesthood session tickets anyway.

One by one, my beloved customs and traditions have been wrenched away from me.

There’s still a Farr’s by the Ogden temple. Maybe you can work that one into a new tradition.

What value is there to having separate general conference sessions for men and women anyway? Enough to justify the time and expense? I mean, if we are trying to reduce and simplify, why not go yet further?

I'm not complaining, just raising the question for discussion.

One could argue, I suppose, that the women's auxiliary leaders need a chance to address the women and teenage girls as a body, but couldn't this be done through other means, such as the pre-conference workshops the auxiliaries used to hold that were conducted for live congregations and recorded and put online for people throughout the Church to see?

Quite a distance from where we live, though.

The one at City Creek I really liked because it was something of a self-serve buffet in which you could get your own soft-serve flavor of ice cream or frozen yogurt and put any of an array of toppings on it. We really liked the concept. Plus, they sold Dexter Dogs, which I really liked.

Is the store in Ogden anything like that?

I study all of the talks from all of the sessions (even though I never watch the women’s session).  So in that sense, I agree with you.

Right now, the women’s session allows for more female voices to be heard.  This is important to me for the sake of my daughters. But that could easily be remedied by adding more sisters to the general sessions.

Me too. Disappointed to have less of both.

I think Leatherby’s would be more appropriate.

Ohhhhh. I really miss the fries and fry sauce there!

I think Rongo is only summarizing what the Julie Rowe/Roger K. young devotees believe. I don’t think he  means to say he believes it himself.

Exactly.

A big thing with the tent citiers is that the Brethren secretly support them, but can't openly admit it right now. Hence, you're not going to be able to find support from them for the fanaticism. ;)

I feel your pain.

But mix one part mayo and one part ketchup (adjust ratio to taste) and presto: fry sauce!

They have a Farr's in Riverdale that works exactly like that.  It's in the strip mall next to Cafe Rio, a couple blocks from Costco, right where Wall Ave and Riverdale Rd connect.  The one by the temple is more like a regular Ice Cream shop-with a counter and hard ice cream scooped by a person.

We actually can get fry sauce at Arctic Circle here, but Leatherby's has more to it. I know they also add onions, but I don't know what more they add. Yum!

Then I miss Ab's chili cheese fries too!

They could do this for both the men and the women.

Something I haven't heard anyone bring up yet:

For the >85% of LDS who don't live in UT, if you want to attend General Conference it's a major commute.  Having Women's meeting on the same weekend means out-of-towners don't have to choose between physically attending Women's session vs other sessions.

Excellent point!

My sister worked at Arctic Circle back in the day. They put buttermilk into the secret mix on site. So there’s that.

I will miss the opportunity twice a year to attend priesthood session with my son at the stake center and then join with other fathers and sons for a bite afterwards.  And, please God, never, never let the day arrive that conference speakers are chosen solely to balance gender representation.  Before that day arrives let worms destroy this flesh and may I be dust.

It’s not about gender representation.  It’s about my daughters having the same role models that my sons have.

Rock, your daughters do have the same role models as your sons.  What you are doing is creating the false premise that a role model must be the same gender as the observer.  Said another way, a boy can never learn from his mother because she is the wrong gender.  Do you see the absolutely silliness of such a position?  You are creating something that does not exist and then making it into a valid position, which it is not.

I have to admit I will not miss it much. Seems half of the talks are addressed to the young men and the other half to fathers. Meanwhile I wonder why I am allowed in. ;)

Tip for advanced users only:

mix in a little honey mustard.

Something tells me that you wouldn't be quite as opposed to gender balance if there were only 3 or 4 men speaking in four two hour sessions.

Depends on how many of the women replacing them used that weird cheery Primary voice.

*shudders*

Oh, puhleeze.  Do not project your standards or weaknesses on others.  Certainly do not attempt it on me; I reject your position in total.

I have never in my life demanded to know if the author of a poem, a piece of literature, or a short story was my own gender before I could determine if it was worthwhile, inspirational, and would life my soul and broaden my mind.  I find this premise of "gender equality" the worst ilk of the worst of feminism.  It is faulty, whining, and demeaning of all humanity.

A boy learns from his mother and father just as a daughter learns from her father and her mother.  It has existed since time began.  This feeble hand wringing about what gender a speaker will be without any attempt to focus first on the value of what is said is just plain stupid.

Give me a speaker that inspires.  In fact, some times just give me the choir singing hymns.  I want that which uplifts me and that has never, in my entire life, ever been about what gender I am interacting with.  Gads, I hate this type of sick philosophy that is common among those who delve into the world's philosophies and then try and import that junk back into the Church.

My daughter cannot learn unless a woman speaks - Oh, just give me a knife and let me jab myself in the brain.  Seriously??? Do any of you actually believe this drivel?  How?  Repent, just repent and stay on your knees until you gain a different perspective because this is utter balderdash.
