It was 6:30 p.m., and I said he was having a long day, like I was. I knew he was recovering from heart surgery, and he replied, "My doctor tells me I can only work half-days." Then he paused and smiled, "So that means 12-hour days." All the best to him and his speedy recovery. 14

It may have been a month or two later. Can't remember. I quit working for the church in July 1994, and it was not long before I left that I met him.

As General Conference's approach, it is such a high profile event, and GA's are rushing about to fulfill assignments. In doing so and at such advanced ages, they are simply wearing them out. I worry at times that these events are very stressful times, both mentally and spiritually. 1

Describing me but saying its a teenager description.

I get as much out of conference when I give them a quick all-inclusive 20 minute skim afterward as if I try and sit through all the talks. Heck, maybe more.

Heck, my dad's pushin' 81 ... ... and, still, I desperately needed his help when the transmission on my car suddenly decided to give out just as I was pulling into the parking lot of my apartment complex a few nights ago. I got it towed somewhere, only to realize that establishment only does body work, so we had to go rescue it and talk to somebody at the dealership to get it towed from there, then I still had to get to work that morning, so we had to pick up a rental ... This morning, I gassed up the rental I've been driving for the past few days, took it back to the rental agency (nice car; I bid it a fond farewell; the rental agent was confused when I shed a tear ), prevailed upon someone at the rental agency to take me to the dealership where my car's been being serviced the past few days (%$#@!@!! 2011-2016 Ford transmissions! Grrrr!), bid my car a rather lukewarm, ambivalent greeting, gassed it up (at the same place I gassed up the rental; I wonder if anyone there was suspicious ), and drove to Provo for work, stopping at Subway on the way, since I was starving! We may have some changes in the General Authorities very soon. It is so good that the Lord has a system of succession in place so that confusion isn't allowed to abound. We know who will succeed President Monson when his mission on earth ends. Could you imagine if the Church today had to deal with the uncertainty that we did when Joseph was martyred? 2
