bluebell Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 My hubby just got back from a stake priesthood leadership meeting early this morning and he said they pointed out a section in the Gospel Library app titled Church History. In this section, among other things that have been available in the app for a while, they pointed out three new sections that were new to him: Revelations in Context Joseph Smith's Accounts of the First Vision Gospel Topics Essays I'm wondering, are these new additions to the Gospel Library App or have these been there for a while but I've never noticed because i've never noticed the Church History section before? 1

They've been there since an update or two ago. I've been surprised that no one here has commented in them until now. 1

I heard about this, but it hasn't been out long, the adding of the Gospel Topics Essays, that is. 1

All three have been online through searching on LDS.org for quite sometime, but I don't use the app. I would be very surprised if the last wasn't on the app for years as that has always been part of the normal LDS.org offerings since they first started and they have just been updating the Gospel Topics section, including adding an essay from time to time; it is not something new and was always meant as a reference resource. The first has got the promotion this year due to the SS topic so perhaps it wasn't on the app before if they don't generally have the history.lds.org or whatever that section is normally. If they do, I would be surprised if it wasn't on it, same with the middle. Does the app have the JS Papers Project on it?

Calm Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) Well, I was wrong. Apparently the Gospel Topics were added last May. Quite surprising. And it may be just the Essays themselves and not the Topics in complete form. Could someone check please? I can't install it on my app without getting my daughter to do it and she is not feeling good (for some reason it is she is the admin on the Apple ID account), the iPad has had a couple of different 'owners'. https://tech.lds.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19557 Anyway, either they were added to the Church History Collection at that time OR the Church History Collection was added at that time, which would probably have included all three of the sections above. It looks like the app version has all the footnotes embedded into the essays but no links to other pages or sites.

Calm Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 I don't see May as shortly before. Was the Church History Collection added in parts? (The Essays were commented on back last May, see my link). They were apparently all announced around Dec 15, so that would definitely be the latest date of appearance.

They keep reshuffling where they put things in the app. I love that you can download videos for lessons with the newest update, but I don't like how the screen and bookmarks work anymore. Both are now more complicated and the néw screen thing opens new windows that you have to close out of. 2

Revelations in Context has been out for a while, but she's asking about a new section in the Gospel Library app that includes the Revelations in Context. And yes it is fairly new. 1

But I'm pretty sure that the new section "Church History" which sits on the very top layer navigation, along with Scriptures, Lessons, General Conference, Notes, etc. That section, or at least that prominently displayed in that location, is new as of Dec 2016. Inside the that new tab "Church History", you have Gospel Topics essays, Revelations in Context, First Vision accounts, etc. 1

I wonder why it's in different places? it might be the same for me. i meant top layer navigation as in, you don't have to drill down through any folders to get to it. it's on the top layer. but it's down towards the bottom of mine as well. 1

You have to scroll down to see "church history"and it is the third to last folder on the the main library page. I don't remember ever seeing a work folder, but that could just be my extremely keen powers of observation. 1

The different options are divided into sections (scriptures, general conference, and Jesus Christ are all under the first section labeled scriptures for example). The next section is labeled "my collections" and has notes under it and then the third is called "teachings" and has lessons and teachings of presidents. At least that's what mine says. 1

This is the difference. You are using list mode. I use the tile/picture mode. (You can see the difference By clicking the dots on the top right and then settings. Then click List mode on or off). It has an 'edit' option on the top right and a settings option on the left. If i go into settings i can scroll down and eventually find a toggle that shuts 'list' off.
