You get the message ither way becuz our branes recorrect these things in transit to make sense. So it takes a second to make heads or tales of a sentance...I'm just trying to expand your brain power, flexability, and creativity Scotty And we've already talked about Chamberlin. I don't object to her making her decision public. The church wasn't put into disrepute. And I didn't read that, so no comment on the rest. With luv, BD Edited January 13, 2017 by BlueDreams 1

Would you have felt the same if Clinton had been elected. Boy there is a few moral dilemmas in that scenario. 45 minutes ago, thesometimesaint said: Yes. Did you object when Elder James E. Faust attended the first inauguration of Bill Clinton? Or when Elder Henry B. Eyring attended his second inauguration? Or when General Authorities attended any of the other inaugurations, for that matter? Why are you only speaking up now? 1
Meadowchik Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 3 hours ago, bluebell said: Here is the article. Elder D. Todd Christofferson and Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will represent the LDS church at the inauguration, continuing a century-long tradition. “A presidential inauguration is a civic ceremony that transcends the person being inaugurated,” said Elder Christofferson in a prepared statement. “It is an act of state, not of politics. Its primary purpose is for the president-elect to take the constitutionally required oath of office, and for the people by witnessing it to bind him to that oath. It is a time to reaffirm collectively the enduring principles that have sustained this country for over 200 years, including the peaceful transfer of power, which remains a remarkable event even in this modern world. Since 1905, the church has sent representatives to meet with presidents of both Republican and Democratic parties." I didn't know that the church always sent representatives to the inauguration. That's kind of interesting. I admit though that my first thought was wondering how this is impacting Jan Chamberlain. I'm not wondering if she's changed her mind but more thinking about how it would be difficult to have come out publicly stating that doing something was immoral and then find out that some of the apostles were planning to do something similar, clearly implying that it's not immoral. Its not the same act. Witnessing the inauguration is one thing. Adding your expression as a dedicated part of the broadcast program is another. 1
Thinking Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 More important than whether the LDS Church sends representatives to the inauguration is that somebody needs to take Mr. Trump's phone away so that he stops sending out these embarrassing reactionary tweets. 2

Actually, I'm starting to think they're not a bad idea, a rapid way of circumventing a hostile and biased mainstream media. As for their being "embarrassingly reactionary," well, he did win the election, after all. 2

It's by invitation only, includes the celebration of mass, and thus the only religious attendees are Cathodox Churches including the Eastern Orthodox rites, as well as the Episcopalians and Anglicans who remain very Catholic in ceremony, priesthood, and liturgy. You can't just invite yourself to one. That's why I said they can sit in McDonalds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take a selfie or something! Edited January 13, 2017 by Duncan 1

She made her decision for her reasons. It has nothing to do with another person making a decision for him/herself. I think you've misunderstood, because i wasn't asking about anything she should be concerned about. I was more wondering if it was impacting her in anyway. Has she gotten more flak for her choice because some church members perceive her as being in opposition to them? That kind of stuff.

Are we a Church or a political fan club for one country? We're a church who's headquarters are situated in a specific country, a church where that specific country holds a lot of sway over what happens to the church and a lot of its wealth and assets. The church has a greater vested interest in what goes on in the US than it does in other countries. It's silly to imply that being focused on that country is the equivalent of being a "political fan club". I agree that the church also needs to be concerned with other countries, and i think they are. There is probably room for improvement with that. 4

Trump will not put it away since it gets him exactly what he wants. He can basically control the news of the day by his tweets. As long as the media keeps monitoring his twitter account, he will keep it up. 1

That doesn't really have any bearing on the current reality that your current President-elect is in approval rating free fall at the moment and embroiled in several scandals, conflicts of interest issues, and other concerns which are hurting him more than any president-elect before him. 5
