Not sure if that is a help or a hindrance to spreading the Gospel. Do we normally send Apostles acting on behalf of the Church to inauguration ceremonies to every country on earth?

Whether you like it or not the Church must work within governmental approval and they do send Apostles to confer with government leaders around the world.

Hopefully he'll grow up soon.  It's starting to become embarrassing to have such an undignified and immature president.  Even some of my friends and family who are trump supporters are cringing and telling me how much they wish he would just be quiet!

This is why people don't want the Church associated with this man! guilt by association! "if your choir sings at his inauguration does this mean you'll all get free  passes to Casinos? I didn't think  Mormons gambled or shopped at L.L. Bean" we don't!!!!! We need a clean break here, he can go on his way but people don't want the Church to go where he does, what will the neighbours think?!

To late to worry about that.  That bridged was burned in 1830.

I haven't heard anyone make any associations like that. The last time Mormons were associated with Trump in the news (that I'm aware of) were articles talking about how much Mormons did not like him.

Have you heard people saying such things?

3 x !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! once at a restaurant and the ladies were saying that the MTC was "being sullied" and the other one was on the FB page for a national Canadian broadcaster and then the other was n article about it in our local paper about the MTC situation and sis. Chamberlain. In Canada we need every good thing coming to us LDS media wise, this Trump stuff doesn't help. To put it another way there are as many people in England who believe that the Jedi is a real religion than members of the Church in Canada

Sigh...people need to stop with the "but Hillary!" argument. It's getting old. Yes, the DNC needs to look inwardly. That doesn't really have any bearing on the current reality that your current President-elect is in approval rating free fall at the moment and embroiled in several scandals, conflicts of interest issues, and other concerns which are hurting him more than any president-elect before him.

He announced steps yesterday to distance himself from any business dealings with potential conflicts of interest. Simply put, he is totally turning over his businesses to his sons and will have no say in their management for the next four or perhaps eight years.

As for the other stuff, it sounds like the same line that is being parroted by those who are perpetually in the campaign of 2016 and cannot accept the fact that the campaign is over, Trump won and we are in a new year and soon to be new administration.

I am disgusted with the members of the Church who denigrate Trump and praise Hilary Clinton, someone who does and did make Trump look good.

you think he won't talk to his sons about his business stuff for all that time, not even once? How will anybody know? he isn't forthcoming with his tax returns and it seems now he is proclaiming newspeople as fake news, which is fitting I suppose as that is what got him elected

As I said above it was Hilary Clinton's corruption and scandals that elected Trump.

Yep, he lost in California and NY, but won the majority almost everywhere else.  If it were not for the College of Electors, these two states would be selecting every president in every election.  And that would be insanity.

We believe that the Constitution was inspired.

Probably. But I also got from her statements that there were a lot that supported her in and out of the choir/church. I also think that if you're going to take a stance that is going contradictory to the flow, you'll generally expect some pushback. If you don't you're kinda naive. To me at least, this isn't a Statement about her choice. In fact, my other question I don't know the answer to is if they've had to make such a statement period about attending ever before. Which again, isn't much about chamberlain but the overarching problem of a very heated inauguration and Trump.

I think more and more companies and organizations are needing to make statements, not just because of things like Trump, but how quickly things spread through social media. One of the first thing many people do anymore is complain on social media to companies.  They did that 4 years and 8 years ago too, but it just keeps getting worse.

That's why I said they can  sit in McDonalds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! take a selfie or something!

I was going to say there was no McDonalds there, but apparently the newly opened one has been taking some heat! Did you know about that or was this just coincidence?  But really if you are going to the Vatican/Rome there are much better places to go! Even the deli stores with meat and cheese and a bit of bread is so much better!

I don't have a problem with two apostles of the Church attending Trump's inauguration.  There is nothing unique about that, and the same thing was done for Obama and many other U.S. presidents.  They are just doing their job.

I personally view this as a separate issue from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performing at the inauguration.  I still stand with Jan Chamberlin and her right to stand up for what she believes in and make a public statement.

Donald Trump continues to have me very worried for our country.  That's not the news media's fault.  He said what he said.  I am going to try to pray for him and hope that it makes a difference.  That's all I can do right now.

I will also continue to protest loudly his actions that I don't feel are right!

That is in no means a blind trust or much of a separation to say the least. And for the bold, how do you mean? These are new conflicts, particularly when it comes to Russia. They were there-ish, but they're becoming far more fleshed out recently. Issues that both republicans and democrats are concerned about but that Trump is poo-poohing down.

But to be fair, there was was one thing I was happy about with Trump recently. Him calling out the Republicans from secretly gutting the ethics committee. Through twitter. Definitely not perfect. It's still weird to me when I'm reading an article on NYT's or some other source and it states things like "president-elect tweeted....such and such (usually ending with the phrase, so sad, huge, etc)....on serious international/national issues." But still....one thing.

This has to do with the way the US elects it's presidents.  We are not a pure democracy, for many good reasons.  Part of the problems that Canadians might be having with all of this is that they don't understand as much about America as they think they do, or they are trying to compare it to Canada in ways that it's not comparable.

Perhaps that's why Canadians are viewing the MTC being sullied by singing at Trump's inauguration where as I haven't heard any American outside of this message board that has said that. :)

it isn't a comparison I was just saying that more people voted against Trump then for him which happens here from time to time. That's the issue is we need positive LDS news not bad news and people outside of the US don't like him, the UK was talking about banning him even!

There is a little constitutional protection so the highly populated states aren't able to run roughshod over the less populated states.  It is called the electoral college.  You see the US is not a democracy it is a democratic republic.  Kind of a bit of genius the way the founders set that up.
