rodheadlee Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 I don't have the ticket yet but they emailed me and said I was approved and accepted, and my credential is in the mail. Have you seen the movie Captain Ron? It's PG13 rated but it's a good movie with some insight into what we do. 1
rodheadlee Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 (edited) This song captures the love of sailing. Summer in our sky ships, forever, sailing the wind.Somewhere Sunday morning brings us miles from earthbound, sailing the wind.September, keeping kite time together we summon the wind.Swaying to a gentle lady's breeze of ocean, sailing the wind.Up among the clouds I see my face miles below, Tugging on the string, a travelin' thing in my soul.I've got half a mind to close my eyes and let the string go, sailing the wind.Children, bring your kite lines to come and summon the wind.Tomorrow we'll be watching a sad sea and star bound, sailing the wind.Tomorrow we'll be watching a sad sea and star bound, sailing the wind.Up among the clouds I see my face miles below,Tugging on the string, a travelin' thing in my soul.I've got half a mind to close my eyes and let the string go, sailing the wind. I mentioned this movie to them too! I'm so excited for you guys. Hope you post more about it!

Hello Rod... I'm having trouble visualizing the route... seriously, do you sail, and then haul it overland by truck... but that wouldn't be 6600 miles... Have a Merry Christmas... GG

GG You go south to Panama, through the canal. Then north to Mobile Bay, Alabama and up the Mobile River to the Black Warrior River to the Tom Bigbee Canal to the Tennessee River. It's known as the Tom-Tenn Waterway. I guess there is a total of 19 locks counting Panama. It's been awhile since I've been up the Tom- Tenn. Edited December 24, 2016 by rodheadlee 4
rodheadlee Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 By the way my license is OUPV 100 ton. I might go for my Masters for 100 ton. We'll see. OUPV is for Operating Uninspected Passenger Vessel up to 100 tons which suits my needs. We can only carry up to 6 paying passengers. I just want to deliver yachts. Many people don't have the time to move them from place to place or don't want to go offshore or beat to weather for days on end, checking in and out of foreign countries is a pain too.. My friend made good money moving them from the East Coast to the Virgin Islands for the winter. It's a sporty sail from the Chesapeake Bay to the USVI in November. Hurricane season is May 15 to Nov 15. 1

When you set sail for Tahiti you put the Southern Cross in the port spreader the whole way down from Mazatlan, MX. You can start seeing it about 27* N latitude. 2

How very fascinating... and sounds exciting... but I can see what skill, seamanship, and knowledge this type of sailing takes. So much more than just weekends on the Bay. When I lived in San Francisco, a beautiful sight was all the sails against the blue of the Bay on a sunny afternoon. GG 2
