Why are we silent?

How committed are you to a cause?  John Dehlin did an excellent TED talk, kind of along the lines that great artist is never appreciated during their time.  And that those who take a stand in a time of great personal persecution over their cause of choice, are the ignition point of total change 20 or more years later.

AS usual, it sounds like more self-promotion.  Great persecution- he will be a hero in 20 years.  Yep that's John alright.

Well,. at least you appreciate him.  

BTW, wouldn’t that fact mean he doesn’t quite fit the “never appreciated during their time” category?   Hopefully, he doesn’t have very many regulars who follow his talks and pod casts.  That would really be destructive to his future reputation.

Great personal persecution?  Like losing his membership in a church of which he has publicly been highly critical for years, and (IIRC) whose doctrines he doesn’t accept?

What was your message, except to gush all over the individual?

How can anyone respond to that, except to point out that he's really not all that gush-worthy?

For those that might be holding a myopic view on the messager, I'll repeat his message:

The message was pretty clear, stand up for whats right, even if it is not the popular thing of the day, and you take persecution over your stand.  It is these individuals, that 20 to 50 years later become the heroes

How would you feel if you were required by law to use the restroom facilities opposite of your gender identity?  For the record, In Europe they have multi gender restroom facilities...its no big deal, after all we're all just part of the human family

Impossible for me to answer. First, I would have to know what it would feel like to identify myself as a woman, which I am not, and I don't think that desire will ever come upon me.

Now, if you asked if I was required by law to only use the women's bathroom, well, I wouldn't want to because I am a guy, and if the law compelled me to, honestly I'd probably break the law. I mean who is going to catch me, a man using the man's bathroom? But, to me that question is kind of silly, the real question is how would the women feel if they see me, a guy, using their bathroom.

I think the second part of your post is the best solution. Why make all these confusing and controversial laws? Just have three bathrooms (like in Europe, I think I actually have sen a men, woman, and family bathroom at a Walmart).

Thank you, Sal. We shall take comfort in that; because we are the ones who are standing up for what's right, even though it's not the popular thing of the day.

And we are, of course, taking persecution for our stand.

I never called any specific person a heel, that is just a psychological projection on your part. I can only assume you mean Dr. Lowry Nelson of Mormon Stories fame. While it is true some member of the Church were, and are racist. Our doctrine is one of inclusiveness. All are welcome to join, and none will be denied any blessings from God through no fault of their own.

The wheat must grow with the tares I'm afraid - unfortunately standing up is not advisable because you will stand alone. Take comfort in the words of Isaiah 5: 

20 ¶Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! 

21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!
