amo Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Would any-1 happen to know if local civic leaders are told or briefed on what transpires inside the temples? How can they know for sure that what is done inside can be considered civically correct? Thx, amo
Storm Rider Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 (edited) Please define "civically correct". Edited January 15, 2016 by Storm Rider

I was told once that a copy of the temple ceremony is in one of the government libraries in Washington, D.C. because the government had to be sure what was happening in them was legal.

Storm Rider Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 I find it is a bizarre question. There seems to be a wide difference in meaning between what is legal and what is "civically" correct. One is relatively clear-cut whereas the other terminology is full of innuendo, judgment, and political correctness. I just find it a strange question and would like to understand the motivation for such a question. Everyone knows that all temples, prior to be used as temples by the LDS people, are open for all to tour and see. This obviously includes civic authorities. Further, all buildings in the US must meet building codes of the jurisdiction in which they are built. Lastly, fire marshals do inspections of temples to verify that they are being run to fire codes. Temple workers are trained every year how to assist in vacating the building in the event of fire or other catastrophe. So what exactly do are you asking Amo? 2
Popular Post oremites Posted January 15, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 15, 2016 amo, do you know if local civic leaders are told or briefed on what transpires inside your home? How can they know for sure that what is done inside can be considered civically correct? 6
thesometimesaint Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Sure they know if they have and use their Temple Recommend. 1
The Nehor Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Civically correct sounds positively Orwellian. Have you ever considered becoming a fascist or Stalinist-style communist? You seem well qualified. 1

filovirus Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Are you talking about countries where membership is low and the church is requesting to build a temple?

Well, much has been said about the hatred being apparently preached inside some western mosques. The question I asked was simply meant to find out if local civic leaders are aware of what transpires inside our temples, since for very obvious reasons; they don’t have access to all of the details. And if they do know, how / what do they know? And, of course, How can they really be sure that what they are told is what really goes on inside? amo

The government has no basis for having any suspicion about the propriety of work being done in the temple. None. At all. So the only reason for such curiosity would be rank bigotry and prejudice, nothing more. Such things are not a proper basis for the government to pry into the private affairs of a religious group. Tacenda Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 You guys razz amo, but at one time there were oaths that weren't very good for members of the church to be making concerning the nation. But that was then, definitely not now. Our church is the most pro American church that I know. link to temple content removed

And if this were the case, who do you think, would come forward and accuse the church of such ? Without forgetting that every-1 is under oath. amo Edited January 15, 2016 by amo
smac97 Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Just now, amo said: So, what you are saying, or at least implying, is that there must be "instances of allegations", government's"suspicion", in order for them-civil leaders- to be briefed on what goes on in the temple ? amo In the U.S., government intrusion into the lives of individuals requires more than mere "suspicion" or unsubstantiated "allegations." That said, I still don't get what you are looking for. Do "civil leaders" (I think you mean "civic leaders") get "briefed" about what goes on in religious services as a general rule? As far as I can tell, no. And who would do the "briefing?" And who would perform the research to accumulate information/data to be used in the "briefing?" And how would such information-gathering take place? And why would the government spend time, money and resources gather information about something as innocuous as a private religious gathering? Thanks, -Smac 3
