Thinking Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The Provo City Center Temple is scheduled to be dedicated on March 20, 2016. I think that soon after that dedication it will be announced that the original Provo Temple will undergo a renovation (or rebuild) much like the Ogden Temple. I know that in 2010 the LDS Church said there were no current plans, but that was before fire gutted the Provo Tabernacle - which was renovated and will soon be dedicated as the Provo City Center Temple. Thoughts?

Moreover, MTC is a heavy user of that temple and cannot be diverted to the City Center Temple, because they do not have adequate accommodations.

smac97 Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 The Provo temple may be able to be shut down because a lot of the work now down there could be diverted to the Provo city center temple and to the temple in Spanish Fork, and for that matter to the temple in American Fork.

MTC seems like it would be the biggest concern with shutting down Provo. But I think if they really wanted to do an Ogden-style renovation of Provo, they would bus the missionaries to the Payson and Timpanogas temples. That said, how long did the Ogden temple reno take? Seems like it was at least a couple years, right? That's a long time to be hauling MTC missionaries to Payson and American Fork.
BlueDreams Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I doubt it would be nearly as extensive if it did happen. I'd just assume it would be a piece-meal thing because it's still very, very busy. But I do think it may go through some uplifts with a few longer, intermittent breaks. The interior structure and design though is extremely efficient for the amount of work done in it. I doubt much of that would change because it's needed for the amount of work that's done.
