I love it, I watch every session, making note of talks that are especially noteworthy to my life. But when the last session is over, I feel let down; it's over and I'll have to wait another six months. It's not as bad as it used to be now that I have the internet and can listen anytime, but the feeling of melancholy when it's over is still present. Does anyone else experience this? I've often said I wish we had General Conference every two months! Also, did anyone have any insights or did you recognize themes during this last conference? I found it interesting how many speakers mentioned that they were converts or were married to converts. 8

And i did have some very specific insights that were answers to some heartfelt questions about my personal path. The Saturday sessions were some of the most powerfully personal that i've ever experiences. 7

I liked that he drew from his theme last time of the Old Ship Zion: "God’s plan is in place. He is at the helm, and His great and powerful ship flows toward salvation and exaltation. Remember we cannot reach there by jumping out of the boat and trying to swim there by ourselves." I think that the church was set up precisely because Heavenly Father meant for us to work together and serve eachother to earn salvation and exaltation. I don't believe we ever do it on our own. 6

Alas, I wasn't able to catch most of it live because I was working (both days! ) I know it's not the same, but I do take solace that I'll be able to watch and read the talks in coming days. (Alas, sometimes my follow-through doesn't match my stated commitment in such cases ... I hope that's not the case in this instance.) But if you think the "letdown" from being a viewer is bad, try being a member of a regional choir that performs in one of the sessions. As uplifting as it is to watch, to listen, or to attend, there is absolutely nothing that could compare to being in front of a packed house of 21,000, along with a worldwide audience of millions more. 1

I found it interesting how many speakers mentioned that they were converts or were married to converts.A couple of themes I noted were (other than the one you mentioned, which was matched by a couple of references to the blessings of multi-generational LDS): "Simplify," which i think was mentioned last time as well, and I thought I noted "fallibility" of the leadership emphasized a couple of times. 1

Some talks require a few readings to understand them. 1

My weekness.Most of the times that I experinced personal growth is when I "wanted" to feel and know more.I used to commute 75 miles one way to work, I had some conference talks on tape and started to listen to them, to and from work.I remember several times having profound spiritual experiences listening to past talks.Once I had to pull over so I could see through the tears that were falling.God knows our needs, we need to listen. 5

I drive a lot every week, and get the most out of conference by listening to it repeatedly while I drive in the weeks and months afterwards. So I don't feel a sense of loss or melancholy at the end of any one weekend. I simply get to update my playlist. 1

Whereas it used to take me a month or two to listen to the Book of Mormon on audiobook, now it's a little more like every two weeks. 1

I found it interesting how many speakers mentioned that they were converts or were married to converts.Not the only theme, certainly, but one I noticed was the idea that exercising faith and believing is a matter of choice, not happenstance, and the choice is available to everyone. That it's OK to have questions but not to wallow in one's doubts and publicly wear them as though they were a badge of honor (this is me paraphrasing now). I have already highlighted in separate threads on this board two talks that followed this theme, both given at the priesthood session, one by President Uchtdorf and the other by Elder Andersen. There were others. I hope to highlight them as well in coming days as I review them. 1

Alas with a surfeit of information at our fingertips, we have become a society of casual or lazy readers today. 1

My 30 year high school reunion was so good that a couple of my classmates suggested planning a 35th (we have been holding one every ten years). Many of us commented that if we have too many, they will lose their novelty. If they happen more frequently, people won't try as hard to get there "because there will be another in just a few years." 1
