Bishop Koyle (Dream Mine) Last Days Prophecy

I suppose it is just as easy for someone to believe in some of the prophecies of an alleged con man who dreams of hidden nephite gold mines that never come in as it is to believe in some of the prophecies of an alleged con man who sees hidden spanish silver mines that always disappear.

It is all the self seving, he is always proved right, even when the Brethren are against him...of course after they are dead they come to him and beg for forgiveness.

...But there are others that seem unlikely.

Still, doesn't bode well for the Republicans (8.The Republican elephant would be in power. At an election, it would sink to its knees, never to rise again.)  :spiteful:

Don't know what to make of such things, but I was just listening to talk radio earlier tonight, which talked about three of the Republican presidential candidates who support the idea of granting citizenship to illegal aliens. The point made on the talk show was that such a move would forever end the power of the Republican party, since that large new demographic would vote largely for the Democrat party, swinging every national election in favor of the Democrats. The speakers said the three candidates were thereby unwittingly willing to commit political suicide.

I once met Ogden Kraut, and I recommend that we take Bishop John Koyle the same way I took Kraut -- with a grain of salt.

I never stated differently.

I just find it interesting because of the times. Many of the Apostles are elderly, three did just die in succession (3 of the greats, IMO), and "apostates" that are still believers in the Restored Gospel  voices are growing and fellowship groups are forming among them.

So in this instance his "prophecy" seems to be fitting. but only time will tell.

Also,I find it interesting how Elder Scott, the third to die, passed away the day before many things start to converge pointing towards troubles coming on the nation and world. The "prophecy" says troubles will begin when the 3 leaders die.

When my wife's grandmother passed away, we received a certificate in the mail for the shares in the Relief Mine that she had left to my wife. Not knowing anything about the mine--and being a starving grad student at the time--we were excited to find we now owned (IIRC) 200 shares of a gold mine. Imagine our disappointment when I looked into it.

I can sort of understand the attraction some people have to these end-times predictions and prophecies, as they seem more in line with the way the church operated in the nineteenth century. But I'm with Brother Smith in taking anything Bishop Koyle said with a pretty large grain of salt.

Considering the socially conservative, family-oriented, and generally religious culture of Latinos in America, along with the amount of small-business owners among them, I've always believed the GOP has been shooting itself in the foot by not allying with them.

Cern colliding is only a day away and no one cares.

Oh, I thought it was happening on the 25th, not today!! So far so good. Thanks for the article.

How did the date of September 23 get settled on?

If you pray to find a treasure buried up, be prepared to find it, be commanded not to sell it, and have to translate it.

Such a thing would be enjoyable on all counts, but I wouldn't guarantee that I wouldn't sell such a thing. If such discoveries were to happen (and I believe they will some day to someone), after thoughtful prayer, who knows, I might just decide to sell the privilege to read such a thing at a considerable price, and have proceeds go to good causes such as widows, the fatherless, orphanages, feeding/housing/uptraining the poor, helping families wanting to adopt domestically or internationally, funding other publications, funding micro-enterprise efforts to help lift the poor out of poverty, abuse shelters, addiction treatment centers, getting good people out of the clutches of their countries' legal bureaucracies (courts/prisons), etc., etc.

By way of example, many copies of the first edition of the Book of Mormon were actually sold, not given away. Many still are.

"The Wayne Sentinel announced that the first copies of the Book of Mormon would be available for public sale on 26 March 1830."

So you would have sold the plates even if commanded not to? Because I believe that is the comparison that Kevin was making, not to copies of the translated manuscript.

I still wish the plates were on the earth with the church having them. It would attract so many more believers.

Not sure that it would.  A number of those who saw the plates later left the Church.  People would debate about what the plates mean but if one can't read the Nephite language, how could anyone prove Joseph made a correct translation of them.  I do think however that if the Lord brought back the brass plates that would be interesting as those writings are not reformed Egyptian.

Ugh...This end time nonsense makes me want to punch myself in the face. Modern persons who came after Jesus need to get out of the business of prophecy. Leave that to the Tanakh and specifically Daniel, Isaiah, Ezekiel and Jeremiah. (My faves)

The Revelation should never have made it into the Canon. Whoever wrote that was on serious drugs that cannot be found anywhere. The Shepherd of Hermas and the Apocalypse of Peter would have been better.

Modern people often use the writings of Daniel, Isaiah, and Ezekiel to justify their prophecies.  If you want to stamp out modern people from making prophecies, perhaps getting rid of these older writings you cite should be done as they only encourage these modern prophets.  And who says Daniel or Ezekiel were any better at it than John?  In fact, Daniel and John parallel each other quite a bit.

"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many."

Well, it would also have to be true that true prophets would rise and tell the truth to many, otherwise he just would have said "everyone that claims to be a prophet is a false one."

Just like the surge after the Joseph Smith papyri was found in the 1960s.

Yeah, but the Apostles have that covered.
