Elder Ballard gave a talk about this in oct. 1993 conf. I wonder what too them this long to implement it? I for one am stoked they are doing this!

I wonder if this means that ward RS presidents will now be a part of ward PEC meetings.

PFEC meetings. :P

I wouldn't be surprised at all. The RS President is already more or less a permanent "guest" at PEC meetings in our Ward. I suspect we are not at all unusual.

In my ward they have been for years.  I know from first hand knowledge it has been at least 6 years.

It would be nice for it to be a standardized thing. I've never been invited to a PEC meeting in all my years at church, not even as a sister missionary or RS president.

The elders in my mission were always invited but never us sisters. It was weird since we were doing the exact same job.

For what it's worth, the bishop to whom I was executive secretary invited missionaries irrespective of gender or priesthood status.

PEC? We just hold ward council every week.

You are either in my ward or our bishops think alike.

I was in various callings that had to attend ward council/Pec and before that welfare and there is NO diff. between the three. I was happy they got rid of welfare mtg. I don't know about now but when I was ward mission leader the sister missionaries went to ward council and PEC, they and the elders gave their spiel and left. I stayed and the DL stayed just in case there were any mission related matters that came up.

Ha, I doubt you are in my ward. Probably the latter.

I was just thinking about high councilmen and how they travel to different wards to speak.  Are women ever asked to speak in different wards?  I'm still not exactly sure what the role of a high councilman is.

High councilmen often invite women to speak with them (they can invite who ever they want really).  This last sunday our high councilman had some sister from a stake presidency speaking as well as himself-i think she was something to do with YW's.

They're actually High Councilors but that is being nitpicky.

I have seen High Councilors ask stake auxiliary leaders to accompany them and more then a few have brought returned sister missionaries.

At Ward Conference stake auxiliary leaders often take the lead in meetings. When my mother was Stake Primary President they ran Primary for the day at ward conferences. Same with Young Women and Relief Society Leaders. Usually not in Sacrament Meeting for that purpose but I know at least once a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency visited and spoke about a new stake initiative in sacrament meeting asking women to participate and men to be supportive.

The article mentioned 3 prominent women: Sister Rosemary M. Wixom, Primary general president;

Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women general president; and Sister Linda K. Burton, Relief

Society general president.

Are they permitted to baptize anyone?

Thanks,

Jim

I guess I am a party-pooper - this is such a big yawner for me.  I don't have a horse in the race and the impact on my life and that of my family's life is nil.  Maybe if individuals participating on the councils came from a very different culture or area of the world I would think there would be an impact.  The difference of gender alone making specific a committee or council better is not something that excites me, captures my attention, is real.
