In LDS culture, being engaged that quickly is not uncommon. But what makes Katelyn’s story unusual is that she is engaged to her former district leader who she met on her mission in Berlin. It’s been two years since the historic announcement lowering the age requirement for LDS young men and women to serve missions. While that announcement has helped the Church hasten the work, some unplanned outcomes may also be beginning to emerge as the first wave of “age-change” missionaries begin arriving home and prepare for marriage. Some couples develop feelings while on the mission but put the feelings aside to stay focused on the mission. Others develop their relationship by using the mission as a common ground to begin a friendship. This was the case for Stanley and Sarah Dillon of the Charlotte, North Carolina Mission. For this couple, the new technology changes in the mission field including the introduction of iPads and the use of Facebook proselyting facilitated their relationship. Stanley and Sarah first met at a training meeting on how to implement the new iPads into the mission. When they returned home, they were already friends on Facebook. “This wasn’t weird since because we were an iPad mission all the missionaries were friends with each other, including elders and sisters, so that leaders could check and make sure we were posting appropriate things,” Sarah said. “Since he was my district leader and we were eventually in the same area we were friends already on Facebook.” Edited July 30, 2015 by cinepro 1

Funnily enough Last wed. a group of missionaries went home from this mission as they had completed their missions. On Saturday an Elder who got sent home a few months ago showed up in Wyoming (can you imagine? bottom of the barrel............. ) after driving 3 hours to one of the sisters, who went home on wed, her house. Based on her facial expression in the pic, she wasn't too pleased he was there. He just showed up, 3 hour drive, I am quite sure she wanted to spend time with her family and not entertain this banana head Edited July 30, 2015 by Duncan 1

I would crawl on my hands and knees to be where you are alas.......................I tried but I got picked up by the police

I hadn't had much choice of music for 2 years, so I was easily impressed

Most of my wife's nieces and nephews live on the Wyoming side of Teton Valley. It's unbelievably beautiful up there, and I quite like the people.

VideoGameJunkie Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Turning 30 next month, I feel my chances of finding a girl in her 20s to be dwindling, but finding a sweet RM girl would be nice. At this point though it doesn't matter if a girl is an RM or not, I'm just trying to find a Mormon single girl.

This is why I hate getting older and still being single, while I'm most attracted to girls in their 20s.I mean this in the nicest possible way but if the immaturity of girls a decade younger then you at your age does not feel off putting in terms of a relationship you may want to take a look at that. 1

I would never have done something like that. Oh, wait, I did. IIRC, so did Harold B. Lee. So did my wife's grandfather. He married a girl he met while he was a missionary. They went on to have 13 children (all of whom married in the temple, none of which has divorced), 67 grandchildren and who knows how many great-grandchildren. Thanks, -Smac
smac97 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I briefly dated an RM from my mission (in fact, I was her ZL at one point). She was and is a nice person, but we were not meant to be a couple. Fortunately, I followed up by meeting and dating a beautiful woman from Washington State. Warm, intelligent, kind, gentle, spiritual ... and the biggest, brownest eyes I have ever seen. We dated for a few months, got engaged for 6 months, got married, and now have six children and are looking forward to our 20th anniversary next year. Life is good! -Smac

Thanks, -Smac My wife and I worked in the same smallish town for a few months on our mission. Everyone knew her companion and my companion liked each other a lot, so no one was surprised when they got engaged 6 weeks after they got home from Bolivia. My wife and I didn't date until about a year after I got home because she was living on the east coast, and I was at BYU. She came out to start school, and something clicked, and we were married a few months later. I used to joke that we did splits on our mission in that town, but she got mad, so I don't say that anymore. We did play mixed-doubles tennis once.
stemelbow Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 seemed fairly common for missionaries from my mission. Some I knew got married right after they came home and a couple did a little later down the road.
