Looking For Information

Hey Everyone,

So, I'm looking for some (free) sources, and I was wondering if anyone can help?

1. Stories about Mormon women doing blessings/healings in the early years of the Church.

2. More information about the Signature Books-FARM wards that went on in the 1990's?

Thanks,
Katherine

... "wars" ... ?  (Hope you've never had any wars in your wards!  Just sayin'! ;):D)

You might try these for basic background and possible references. There are many good examples of women giving blessings, usually associated with pregnancy/pre-labor but not all. There's even an interesting story (Can't find the reference) about how Pres. Kimball had his wife stand in on a blessing he received in the 1970's.

Here are a few sources along those lines:

I found this in one of my ancestor's journals while doing family history work:

"I left Salt Lake in the fall of 1864, but before leaving I had a blessing given by a Priestess. Grandmother Attwood was ordained a priestess by the Prophet Joseph Smith."

I have tried to find any information about "Grandmother Attwood" but can't come up with anything.  It was interesting how she wrote about this so nonchalantly.  It certainly caught my eye though.

I have compiled all of my pioneer heritage stories in a blog.  You can find this particular quote and story here:

One of my ggggrandmother's was set apart to "practice obstetrics". Just came across it yesterday. Her blessing for the calling, including Daniel H Wells iirc, is listed on familysearch.org if you need it, Sinah Pugh Bishop. I am not sure if that is what you want though. Bishop is her married name, Sinah Pugh her maiden, James Bishop is her husband, they were both born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England; If you need more info to narrow it down, let me know.

Pogi, wouldn't be surprised if an alternate spelling is Atwood and she is someone listed here, probably Anna or Lucy.

There is a Lucy Atwood listed in the RS Minute book. I would see if I could find anything about her, if I were you.

Lucy is also listed here with her probable husband Reuben Atwood:

Likely her:

You're awesome Cal!  Thanks, I'll have to look into those leads and see where it gets me.
