Are All Men Going To Have To Fight In The War In Heaven?

Didn't say that.  But if you want her to take you are sincere in your comments, shouldn't you treat her the same way?

Not when she gives casual insults my way. I don't like being insulted. It sets something off in me. She triggered a bad place in my messed up mentally challenged mind. She insulted my intelligence which I'm very sensitive about.

Wait, we've been trading remarks back and forth for days and GG is the one who ends up insulting you?!?!?!

I need to step up my game. ;)

I don't think she questioned your intelligence with the comment you should know these answers if that is the one you are thinking of…if you weren't intelligent, then she wouldn't expect you to know them.  I got the impression she was counseling you to spend the time looking for the answers yourself if you didn't know them already as that would benefit you more than just asking others for answers and if you did know them, there were other things to study to increase your knowledge and experience of the gospel.

I think both she and I don't want to see you pass up opportunities because it is easier to get on the board when bored and while away the time with starting lots of threads.  It is one thing to do when one is confined to bed like I am so much or older and not able to get out like GG is.  I bet she is looking back on younger days when she was feeling good like I am right now and wishing that she could feel like that again because if so, she wouldn't be here on the board all that much but out doing stuff, living the gospel, learning about the wonders of the world, helping others, etc….filling time with stuff that makes memories and not stuff that will just seem like the repetition of what one did the day before or for the last month etc.

I love this board, I love the people on this board, but I really, really wish I wasn't on the board as much as I am and I am saddened when I see others here as much as I am because there is so much more to life that I want to be doing and I can't and I assume that there is much more to life for others as well and sometimes if I think people are choosing to be here when they do have better things to do, I want to shake them and say get out there and do anything besides be here so when the light goes off at night you can be proud of and happy about what you've done that day.

Well I have a miserable life and I'm a loser like Garden Girl was getting at, and this board is one of the only places where I could connect with people and talk about church stuff. All sorts of fascinating topics. When I get asked a question like if I have a job, it just makes me reflect on how crappy my life really is. So it's not personal towards Garden Girl, she just triggered a part of my brain that snapped.

If I remember correctly, Michael is going to fight the final battle for us.  Sounds good because I'm lazy.

Cal, I can't quote when on my phone, but think all the time that I need a life. I guess I get a little lonely when I think everyone has more of one then I do w/o a regular day to day job. But that's a lame excuse, I could be volunteering. Or driving out to see more of my Grandkids. But with my anxiety on freeways lately, I just don't get out as much. You and many others have every excuse to be on here with your health issues, and believe it or not, I have better conversations on here than anywhere else. It feels like people are just too busy and only have time for small talk. So in actuality, maybe a lot of people make time to be on here because they are sick of small talk, IMO.

VGJ, I'm amazed that your topics being very basic, seem to run on and on. I think people like more uncomplicated subjects, and you've provided them. But as simple as they are, I have a feeling you're not letting on that your knowledge of the church is far greater, and your IQ pretty high. So take that! In the words of Ben Stiller. ;)

Also VGJ, Garden Girl is a great lady, she wouldn't be rude to be rude. She just has some wisdom that we may well all take advantage of. You might want to re-think your response to her and fix it. Not to be rude.

She wouldn't asked you if you had a job if you actually came across as a loser.  She would just avoid you probably. We don't expect to see someone your age on the board this much because not too many want to discuss this topic more than they want to be out there with other people.

Given my own introvert nature and my daughter's severe social anxiety I get that this can actually be a great gateway to learning to be more socially comfortable offline so even if we would like to see you doing stuff we think of as more fun for someone your age, I get that this may be beneficial for you.  But I still encourage you to push yourself to do stuff beyond the board like study the gospel (and some other subject you love, there are so many free online classes these days one can just watch lectures of or NOVA programs and stuff about science) so you have new ideas and subjects to talk to people about here as well as develop the skills that selfstudy can give you which will make your life much more meaningful even if you live a pretty introverted one (speaking from experience and observation of others).  If you use the time you have to yourself for whatever reasons no matter how crappy those reasons might be (not having a job, not having someone to talk to like you would like) to learn and grow and not just do the same thing you did the day before, you can have a wonderful, meaningful life you can be proud of even if it isn't the typical one.

I have no friends so I never have anyone to do anything with. The only friend I have is a non member who only wants to hang out at midnight to 5am and he drinks 6 to 7 beers a night to help fall asleep and deal with his issues. That's my social life. I know Garden Girl meant well, but she used certain words and phrases that came off insulting like I was dumb and waste my life.

There was a good part of my life I had no friends as well.  I spent that time mainly reading books on the floor (no computers).  Good thing was that some of those books were nonfiction (but mostly fantasy and science fiction) and my knowledge grew quite wide because of that.  I also went on long bike rides that were lonely but got my body moving and gave me a change of scenery.  If you have a bike, I would highly suggest it.  Exercise acts like an antidepressant for around 24 hrs so riding a bike for an hour a day will give you a great body, good balance, a good tan and better feelings about life in general.  And if you are not up to an hour, take it for 15 minutes to begin with…I don't have the balance now with the drugs (and that may be a problem for you, if so I am very sorry, shouldn't happen to someone your age, that is really unfortunate), I loved biking, so wish I could do it now especially since my grandkids are getting to the point they can do it.

It was an actual physical war that used actual force and weapons and animals. The swords used by the good have special powers as like a light saber. The swords are still used against evil spirits to ward them off and destroy them if necessary.

Hello VGJ...

Okay, time to set things aright....

First... I in no way meant my flip remark "Do you have a job" to be insulting... sort of like when someone says "Get a life!"  I was referring to the obvious fact that you start an inordinate number of threads compared to the rest of us.  Some I've enjoyed; some I haven't.  The ones I question are the ones that I believe you ask simply to be asking... things you already know or at least should know for someone who is endowed.  I was irritated when you told me you start some of your threads in a way to "get a discussion going."

Second... I've never thought you were of inferior intelligence... I can see you aren't.  You have a computer and the internet is at your fingertips... I would like to suggest that you spend some time searching out things that are of interest to you... or developing some interests in addition to the Board.   The possibilities are many...

Third, VGJ, you break my heart when you refer to yourself as a loser (I did not, nor do I consider you to be one).  I can see some of my remarks touched some sensitivity for you... and I'm sorry for that.

It also breaks my heart when you say you have no friends... Is it possible for you to do some volunteer work somewhere for a few hours several times a week?  I've often thought of helping children with their reading skills... or perhaps at the animal shelter (if I could bear it).

I used to be a volunteer feeder at the Hatfield Marine Science Center... where I assisted the Oregon State University marine biologists with their program at the Center... We had huge acquariums built into the walls, and I would prepare and feed the fish and other sea life.  I loved it... lots of children were bused in on field trips.

Twice a year I participated in the Whale Watch program where the Center has "watching" stations at various points all along the coast that are available to the public during the whale migration back from the Bering Sea down the West Coast to the breeding/birthing grounds in Mexico, and the return north.  It was my job to help visitors spot the whales, and provide information to them on the whales...

Are you in a position that you can develop some interests, and perhaps make some friends... Or, as Calmoriah says, get out and exercise... or read and study.  If you have the Internet, the world is at your fingertips...

As an artist, I'd like to suggest you go to the library and take out a book titled "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain."  You'd be amazed at what you, yes you, can do when you learn to develop your "mind's eye."  I sometimes sit for several hours working on a drawing simply for my own pleasure.

My whole point is to be encouraging to you here... you have health issues that you can work around...

At any rate, I do hope you will try and broaden your interests... Like Calmoriah, I love the Board and enjoy the people on it... I did get snarky with you and I do apologize if I hurt your feelings.  You are too young to stay in a rut... Seek new horizons where and how you can.  But try... surprise yourself...

I have used them o fight off demons. They are for real.

Two of my favorite Church History stories:

Wilford Woodruff writes: "The very day we entered that house it was filled with evil spirits, who sought to destroy us. We felt their power day after day. They did not particularly injure us at that time, but we knew they were with us. The incident that I am going to refer to now occurred after Brother Kimball had returned to Manchester.

"Brother George A. Smith and myself were left there. We sat up one night till about 11 o'clock, talking about the Gospel of Christ, and then went to bed. The room in which we slept was small; there was about three and a half feet between our cots. Those spirits were gathered together in that room and sought to destroy us. They fell upon us with the determination to take our lives.

"The distress, the suffering and the horror that rested upon me I never experienced neither before nor since. While in this condition a spirit said to me, "Pray to the Lord." Well, a man in that kind of warfare, when he is choking almost to death, is in a peculiar position to pray. Nevertheless I went to praying with all the power I had. I knew we would die unless God opened some door for our deliverance, because we were being choked to death, and I prayed the Lord, in the name of Jesus Christ, to preserve our lives.

"While I was praying, the door opened and three messengers entered, and the room was filled with light equal to the blazing light of the sun at mid-day. Those messengers were all dressed in the robes of immortal beings. Who they were I know not. They laid hands upon me and my companion, and rebuked those evil powers, and we were saved. From that hour to this day, not only our lives were saved, but those powers were rebuked by the angels of God so that no Elder since has been tormented with them in London."

Heber C. Kimball recorded:

“Sunday, July 30th (1837), about daybreak, Elder Isaac Russell (who had been appointed to preach on the obelisk in Preston Square, that day), who slept with Elder Richards in Wilfred Street, came up to the third story, where Elder Hyde and myself were sleeping, and called out, ‘Brother Kimball, I want you should get up and pray for me that I may be delivered from the evil spirits that are tormenting me to such a degree that I feel I cannot live long, unless I obtain relief.’  “I had been sleeping on the back of the bed. I immediately arose, slipped off at the foot of the bed, and passed around to where he was.  Elder Hyde threw his feet out, and sat up in the bed, and we laid hands on him, I being mouth, and prayed that the Lord would have mercy on him, and rebuked the devil.

“While thus engaged, I was struck with great force by some invisible power, and fell senseless on the floor. The first thing I recollected was being supported by Elders Hyde and Richards, who were praying for me;  Elder Richards having followed Russell up to my room. Elder Hyde and Richards then assisted me to get on the bed, but my agony was so great I could not endure it, and I arose, bowed my knees and prayed. I then arose and sat up on the bed, when a vision was opened to our minds, and we      could distinctly see the evil spirits, who foamed and gnashed their teeth at us. We gazed upon them about an hour and a half (by Willard’s watch). We were not looking towards the window, but towards the wall. Space appeared before us, and we saw the devils coming in legions, with their leaders, who came within a few feet of us. They came towards us like armies rushing to battle. They appeared to be men of full stature, possessing every form and feature of men in the flesh, who were angry and           desperate; and I shall never forget the vindictive malignity depicted on their countenances as they looked me in the eye; and any attempt to paint the scene which then presented itself, or portray their malice and enmity, would be vain. I perspired exceedingly, my clothes becoming as wet as if I had been taken out of the river. I felt excessive pain, and was in the greatest distress for some time. I cannot even look back on the scene without feelings of horror; yet by it I learned the power of the adversary, his enmity against the servants of God, and got some understanding of the invisible world. We distinctly heard those spirits talk and express their wrath and hellish designs against us. However, the Lord delivered us from them, and blessed us exceedingly that day.”

Elder Hyde’s supplemental description of that fearful scene is as follows, taken from a letter addressed to President Kimball:

“Every circumstance that occurred at that scene of devils is just as fresh in my recollection at this moment as it was at the moment of its occurrence, and will ever remain so. After you were overcome by them and had fallen, their awful rush upon me with knives, threats, imprecations and hellish grins, amply convinced me that they were no friends of mine. While you were apparently senseless and lifeless on the floor and upon the bed (after we had laid you there), I stood between you and the devils and fought them and

contended with them face to face, until they began to diminish in number and to retreat from the room. The last imp that left turned round to me as he was going out and said, as if to apologize, and appease my determined opposition to them, ‘I never said anything against you!’ I replied to him thus: ‘It matters not to me whether you have or have not; you are a liar from the beginning! In the name of Jesus Christ, depart!’ He immediately left, and the room was clear. That closed the scene of devils for that time.”

Years later, narrating the experience of that awful morning to the Prophet Joseph, Heber asked him what it all meant, and whether there was anything wrong with him that he should have such a manifestation. “‘No, Brother Heber,’ he replied, ‘at that time you were nigh unto the Lord; there was only a veil between you and Him, but you could not see Him. When I heard of it, it gave me great joy, for I then knew that the work of God had taken root in that land. It was this that caused the devil to make a struggle

to kill you.’ “Joseph then related some of his own experience, in many contests he had had with the evil one, and said: ‘The nearer a person approaches the Lord, a greater power will be manifested by the adversary to prevent the accomplishment of His purposes.’”

Not knowing anything about the real you, all I can say is that you don't make friends in real life by staying on the computer.

mnn, I know you can't make any friends in real life on the computer, but you also can't make any friends in real life while reading the scriptures either, but it's a good activity to do.

Is there a singles ward near you or perhaps you could do join a FHE group?   Those can be very fun if they are either large enough that they have a variety of people or are a good match if small.  They can be awkward if small and the personalities don't really work though so not always a great solution.
