David T Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I have seen the first of the New Three, but not the January 2014 one, or this new July 2014 one. Really appreciated the first of the updates, and apart from the HIGHLY upgraded visuals, noted some key changes of emphases/interpretation in the presentation and performance. I wonder if the emphasis is maintained in the performances of the New Two, or if each are substantially different interpretations. Anyone who has experienced more than one of the New Set willing to give their thoughts on that generality?

Like today's pitfalls, temptations, and false attempts at compassion and charity he sounds so plausible, so reasonable, and so kind. I didn't think I'd like it at first because I've preferred the more dramatic version of Satan. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized this is more like what Satan must be like or what he presents himself to be.

Interesting how he evolved over years, from being a nice enough non LDS Priest or Minister to a mean devil, then back again to a nicer one.

I know exactly what you BC... at first I thought Satan was too nice almost wimpy... then something happens that he doesn't like and his whole expression and demeanor changed and he was every bit as menacing as one would think he would be... I hope to go this Wed., and am anxious to see if we have another film... GG

I saw the first new version... and yesterday saw another new version, which I liked very much, except for the Satan in this one. I don't know if this is the second new film or the newest. I think it's the newest. Whichever it was, I just didn't think this Satan was as good as in the first new film. But otherwise it was beautifully done. GG

A man in my ward played Elohim in the 2nd new one, and the nephew of someone in my ward plays Lucifer in the 3rd new one. And I thought Eve was very pretty in the newest video.

I went to the Temple a few months back and they showed the old one, because apparently they were rolling them out slowly or something and it hadn't made it to that Temple yet, just my luck tsk tsk tsk

Your sacrifice is much larger then mine, no excuse for not going more in the past!

I have observed that each of the films seem to be targeted to a specific audience, and each has a personal meaning to certain groups. The temple president told me that the first new film was very disturbing to the older members. It had effects which seem to relate to the contemporary group, "Star Wars" and 3-D. The second film seemed to be rather European -- similar to an old German tableau or passion play (Oberammergau Passion Play). Also the youth would relate the portrayal of Satan as "my buddy or friend". Someone they would go to for advice. The third really spoke to me as an older adult. Eloheim reminded me of the patriarch in the old westerns (Bonanza), and Satan very determined, no nonsense. Each speaks to us in a different way for a teaching experience.

I always enjoyed my temple experiences, and attended often.After thinking about cdowis's comment--how cool would it be if the church allowed multiple temple films with multiple different artistic approaches....? Like different storytelling styles and devices... perhaps an animated one, one in traditional shadow puppets, stop motion, ones from several different types cultural styles and backgrounds, etc?I imagine different creators would emphasize or bring insight into different aspects of the telling, and patrons would enjoy a variety and gain additional perspectives and growth.
