Relationship Advice

Nothing too heavy, no serious advice needed. I just want some ideas!

I'm currently back in British Columbia over the summer doing research (just a bit north of Idaho to be specific), while my girlfriend, also from BC, is continuing her dental hygienist training in Ontario (just north of Palmyra, NY).

She's been running ragged with classes and exams lately, is kind of down, and more than a little stressed. What are some nice things I could do for her from a far besides the usual phone calls, texts, emails, etc?

Are you originally from Ontario, or are you both from somewhere else in BC?

Nah. I moved out to Ontario after my mission to go to school. We're both from BC, but met in Toronto. We're from opposite ends. She's from Vancouver Island (off the coast of mainland BC and Washington) and I'm from the Kootenays (around where Washington, Idaho, and Montana meet).

Don't tell me you are from the Creston area where the Blackmore clans hang out!

On the OP, phone up a limo service near her and have them take her to a Spa for a couple of hours of pampering.

I just saw Winston Blackmore a couple days ago. :) My best friend is his nephew via his half-sister (whose mum left the group and rejoined the Church), and I had a quasi-thing with one of his daughters during high school. The dynamics between Creston (non-polygamist community), Bountiful (Winston's somewhat more liberal group) and Mormon Hills (Warren Jeffs' group) is fascinating.

Holly molly!! I'm studying for medicine, not practicing it yet!! The financial distinction is significant. :S

Put together a care package of spa stuff yourself in a nice basket if that idea appeals to you. You could include a really soft towel as well.

Skype proposal?

Sure, why not. I can probably get away with a ring-pop as well.

I actually did use a ring-pop when I proposed. I went to get the money for the ring but the bank's computer system shut down the morning I planned to propose on so I used a surrogate until I could get access to my money and get the real thing.

What about sending her flowers?

This was going to be my suggestion... have the florist put on the card a simple "Because I love you"... one of my most cherished memories was getting flowers from my dh with that simple message...

A nice pair of sheepskin slippers filled with her favourite healthy indulgence (don't need to load her with junk if she's stressed)...spiced almonds! Dried cranberries and blueberries, popcorn with healthy seasonings and a measuring cup for one serving to avoid getting carried away and a bottle of avocado oil for great, healthy taste.

I hope your husband reads this. ;)

I've got my sheepskin slippers, they are heaven (need to replace the insoles every now and then but wonderful...finding comfortable footwear is a must now I have neuropathy...it is rather tragic because I hate shoes, socks, the purpose of shoes is to get out of them.

As for indulgences...we had a late Father's day dinner of King Crab...yum, yum.

PS: healthy feet.com has the best selection for best prices I've seen so far.

From where you are you can arrange a spa day, and the limo to pick her up for it .   But assuming neither you nor she would want to spend that much on it, maybe you can find a way to identify the RSP in her ward and ask who her vters are and let them suggest people whom you could pay to lighten her load (maybe make some freezer meals, or give her a foot massage, or clean her apt.)  Maybe a count down calendar.   Maybe  a jar with an uplifting saying for every day until you will be together again (though if you start this, just know that you will have to repeat it  every time you are gone overnight, so keep the sayings  for reuse).

Spa date with a friend... or movie... or dinner.... something to let her know you want her to make the most of things when you aren't there.
