Caffeine Dependence Tied To Physical, Emotional Problems

Not surprising. Even if the body is used to caffeine, most people I know can wean off of it pretty quickly. I'd have to go back and do some research about what the headache specialist taught though *in regard to rebound headaches from painkillers with caffeine in them.

Count me out on your list of people that can wean off of caffeine quickly. I've tried, it's like I can't think or function as well without it, and depression can set in. I'm a big advocate of never trying it to begin with. It was a Saturday ritual with my mom and I, to have it then tackle the housework. But I hate to blame her. She had to work most of her life, especially when my dad went on disability. But she definitely had her big gulp to take to work. In 7th grade I remember going to a party and my friend bringing a six pack of coke, I think, and getting high on caffiene, haha. So it may have that affect for the younger crowd. My addiction started with Tab when I was in high school and worked. It was especially hard to cut down when I was pregnant. The doctor said one or two wouldn't hurt the baby and I was relieved, but still couldn't completely get off it for my own child, that's how addicted I was and am. I would have a terrible time on a survival show, or a pioneer Trek, you name it.

Thanks! Seems pretty rare though

Incidences of narcolepsy are rare whether caffeine induced or not. But milder forms of sleeplessness are pretty common. We take caffeine in the morning to wake up in the morning, and diphenhydramine to go to sleep at night. Strange world we live in.

I drink a lot of Coke Zero. Not to stay awake, but to stay sharp. I can still sleep after any amount of caffeine.

Sensitivity is also a big factor. If someone is hypersensitive then don't use caffeine containing products. IE; I'm hypersensitive to over the counter analgesics and antihistamines so unless I'm really sick and need more sleep I can't take them. Even my doctors have to cut way back on the dosages of the drugs they give me.

You used to be able to get genetic testing apparently for caffeine sensitivity and other health issues, apparently the FDA is looking at such claims.

Caffeine does help with certain types of headaches, especially migraines. It does something to the blood vessels in the brain to normalize blood flow. In my case, I have found that caffeine keeps me from getting a headache on long trips.

Yep, but like many medications it can also cause what it is taken to cure. I can never remember which for sure, but I think it constricts blood vessels.

Source?

I thought it was self evident that narcolepsy was very dangerous when operating heavy equipment and vehicles.

I'd say it is pretty close 100% of drug users at one time drank mothers milk. It's correlation is not causation thing.

Come now tss you know that mothers milk is not addictive.

Considering how many have to have a coffee or a coke in order to function or complain when they haven't had one yet, I'd say causation.

This guy says coffee gets rid of his headaches.

My mom swore by coffee for headaches. She never drank it any other time except when she started to get headaches. I on the other hand swear by Excedrin like pills when I feel a migraine or sinus headache coming on. It's the only thing that breaks the headache before it becomes uncontrollable (and it has caffiene).

In any case moderation in all things and I think we have to know how substances affect our individual bodies. Milk causes me more problems than a diet soda on occasion.

The withdrawal symptoms are pretty mild and usually last less then a week with only the firs 3-4 days being hard.
