Storm Rider Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 ......I disagree with you that we don't talk about immorality and it's effects on the gay community. Who hasn't hasn't heard of the effects of aids? Who hasn't heard that some gays have multiple sex partners? The problem you are having is that we don't talk about the gay lifestyle any more than we talk about the straight lifestyle. Immorality, sexual disease and multiple partners exist in both "lifestyles". I think the problem you are having is you want to vilify the gay lifestyle more than you want to vilify the straight lifestyle. Otherwise you wouldn't have just called out the immorality in the gay lifestyle, You would have called out the immorality of BOTH lifestyles. Your statement comes from a place of prejudice. It is completely hypercritical of you to demand that gays not marry and then complain that they have less stable relationships. What the heck do you expect from such a stance. What kind of immorality would be increased if straights were not allowed to marry. This is the same old problem....desperate to try and make the gay lifestyle appear as the straight lifestyle. It is not and never was and never will be. I understand your need to make them equate, but similar practices found does not equate to being the same. In the ideal gay lifestyle it will, not may, it will result in health issues that are directly related to the lifestyle; that does not exist in the ideal straight marriages. There is no comparison. As I said above and I support, this is about rights and I have no problem providing rights to our citizens, but no citizen should be forced to condone a lifestyle that is against the laws of God and nature i.e. it practice has not offspring and ends in the death of the group. 2

And I realize your need to demonize the "gay lifestyle" as much as possible. It helps justify your attitudes you have towards gays. After all, "straignts" are nothing like those gay people. I thank God every day I am straight and not like those icky gay people. I ao hate to disappoint you, but not every gay person has health problems no matter how much you, for some reason, want to pretend that they do. This ignorant statement just further reflects your need to demonize gays and pretend they are nothing like you. I am perfecctly healthy, take no medication, ride my bike about 13 miles almost every morning, go to the gym regularly, not over weight and by far am more healthy than my brothers and sisters who are very close in age to me. Your attitudes toward God's gay children are astounding. 1

Here is a few that I googled: Health Risks of the Homosexual Lifestyle, The Negative Effects of Homosexuality, Convervapedia Examines "Gay Bowel Syndrome": Homosexual Activists Lobby against Term. What is interesting is how active the Gay Activists are in demanding that nothing be listed as "gay" in the medical world. Nothing negative should be associated to simple, logical research that affects this subset of the human population. The reality is that this subset does real harm to themselves, but society is not supposed to talk about it while we are in this drive to gain acceptance of this "perfectly wonderful lifestyle". 1

David T Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) the gay lifestyle The gay lifestyle . . . waking up in the morning, going off to work, coming home, hanging out with friends, family, and/or significant other. Vegging out in front of the TV. Going to sleep. Rinse and repeat. Really, acknolwedging heterosexuality and homosexuality are different is allowed without having to suggest that their 'lifestyles' are otherwise opposed or divergent. The gay lifestyle is the hetero lifestyle. Just with some genders swapped, and likely more people hating on you. There are straights who having a 'sleeping around' lifestyle. There are monogomous straights. There are gays who have a 'sleeping around' lifestyle. There are monogomous gays. Being gay and acting out on gayness does not lead to some monochromatic gay lifestyle anymore than being straight and acting out on straightness leads to some monochromatic straight lifestyle. This is so silly. Heck, by your standard, most straight Mormons don't live the assumed "straight lifestyle" that you see assumed on most sitcoms and television shows. cinepro Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Is it okay to insert homosexual themes into Children's programming? My children know quite a bit about homosexual "themes" from having lived in the city of West Hollywood for a while when they were younger, and going to a Church that talked constantly about gay issues for several months in 2008. I don't know that "Children's programming" would tell them anything they don't already know.
thatjimguy Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I think Disney is bad for kids anyway. Is every girl who jumps into that network doomed?
KevinG Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 (edited) Homosexuality in children's entertainment has been around for a very long time. (If you remember this you will get it.) Edited February 5, 2014 by KevinG
The Nehor Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Homosexuality in children's entertainment has been around for a very long time. (If you remember this you will get it.) Drive-in movie theaters in 25,000 BC were the equivalent of bath houses today. 1
sunstoned Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 There is a lot about gay marriage in the media right now because there are those that still think it is ok to deny gays their civil rights. The exact same thing happened when blacks were struggling to obtain their civil rights as well. I remember when "Black Power", the Black Panthers Martin Luther King, protests and marches was on the news nightly. Even the Olympics in Mexico in 1968 was politically charged with this issue. Yeah I got kinda tired of it all as well. But when the south and those in the rest of the country that thought blacks should be treated as second class citizens finally started to integrate blacks into their community and give them equal rights (through federal law) things finally started to settle down. Black Power, Black is Beautiful, etc are almost a thing of the past. If you want the nightly gay marriage discussion to go away, then work toward gays have their equal rights. The same is somewhat true with black characters in tv shows. I remember it was a big deal that a sitcom added a "black" character. They stood out. People were disturbed with it. Now, it is not even thought about. Blacks are just a part of the fabric of our country. I disagree with you that we don't talk about immorality and it's effects on the gay community. EllenMaksoud Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 It all depends on the context. However, I am really tired of having so much of media focused on the single topic. We live in a time of unending problems and I just don't see why this one is so much more important than everything else. Further, I reject the rose colored glasses that the media demands that society see when this topic is discussed. The extremely narrow view that it is only about two people that desperately love one another, but are denied rights by the an overbearing religious zealotry of the ignorant political right is dishonest. We don't discuss how the very practice of this lifestyle affects one's health. We don't discuss the morality of this segment of society in any context except that it is about love. It is not about love and never has been. It is about rights and how society can acknowledge the rights of individuals, but all members of society should not be forced to condone a lifestyle, a community, that is so focused on instant gratification. This is a group that has evolved a culture that in many ways is absolutely detrimental to health and happiness. Yeah, I guess I vote I would ignore the show for my grandchildren. I am deeply conflicted on this issue so generally try to stay out of these discussions. On the one hand, I accept that homosexual relationships are forbidden in the Bible. On the other, however I strongly feel there is a genetic component to the issue, and if that is so then how can it be a moral problem? There, see, I knew I should have stayed silent.
Gray Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Yes, as long as the focus is on relationships and of course nothing explicit is presented (the same standard for heterosexual relationships)
BCSpace Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 (edited) If Disney (or other Children's entertainment provider) were to create a character or show/movie where homosexuality was a theme, would you let them watch it? As long as it taught that homosexuality is wrong and that the homosexual lifestyle choice is not a legitimate choice, sure I would. Hence, I can't vote in the poll lest someone mistake my selection. Edited February 11, 2014 by BCSpace 2
bjw Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 I voted undecided because my view is that it depends on the child. If the child is mature and can be taught to discern his/her beliefs against what is being shown then I don't mind. If the child fully understands that what is shown on tv is fiction and does not represent real world behavior or the way you should handle things in real life, then I am fine with it. As for homosexuality in the media, I think they are doing the gays a big disservice by constantly parading them on tv and in movies solely for the purpose of ratings. Having family members that are gay, I have noticed that the tension between gays and conservative groups was only made worse by this. I think what they should show in the media is the hatred and bullying gays have endured so that there is better understanding, instead of a simple "parading" of the lifestyle. I understand why our church does not recognize SSM, and I agree with our belief's that family is an eternal part of God's plan. I applaud our church for saying that even though we disagree with their beliefs we should still treat these people with the dignity they deserve and not show them hate. (I forget the exact wording of the article, but I'm sure most on here know what I'm talking about.)
BCSpace Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 (If you remember this you will get it.) The proper use of a word like 'gay' is not teaching or referencing homosexuality.

Stone holm Posted February 16, 2014 Posted February 16, 2014 Our grand kids watch some Disney, along with Veggie Tales, etc. at our house, but they really don't watch much in the way of movies at home. I think all their parents did take them to see How to Train Your Dragon and that recent one about the tooth fairy...were those Disney? One of my sons has never forgiven Disney for destroying Pixar, and another keeps wondering when the next Disney youth star will turn into a Miley Cyrus or Annette .

jkwilliams Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Is it okay to insert homosexual themes into Children's programming? Heterosexual themes are inserted into children's programming all the time, so why not? I wouldn't want small children being exposed to sexually explicit material, regardless of its orientation, but I don't have a problem at all with them being exposed to gay characters. At some point, kids need to understand that gay people exist and deserve the same rights, privileges, and dignity that we all enjoy. 1
wenglund Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 That's no kidding but you could replace the word homosexuality with sexuality. Exactly! We as a society are robbing our children of their childhood by prematurely sexualizing them--including, though not exclusively, through exploitative gay indoctrination. in fact, hetero-sexualization of our children may even be worse because it is so pervasive. So, my answer to the poll would be an emphatic, no. Let kids be kids, and leave adult issues of sexuality of any orientation to adults. Thanks, -Wade Englund- 1
