jcake Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Any thoughts on the extremes of weather occurring around the world? Do they bode end time warnings to us? Writing with thoughts of my California relatives, who are enduring the worst drought in recorded history, I would ask all who are praying folks to plea for rain in that part of the country. Currently, in the central California valleys that provide so much of the fresh fruit and vegetables that we eat, the plan is to not even plant the annuals, like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc, and to use the tiny bit of water they have to keep the fruit trees alive, if not producing. The annuals can be planted and harvested another year, fruit trees take years to grow, and if they lose the orchards now, it will be a long time before they will be producing again. Fast Sunday is coming for many of you, could you make it part of your fasting and prayers to ask for the blessing of rain. Thank you! 3

Fast Sunday is coming for many of you, could you make it part of your fasting and prayers to ask for the blessing of rain. Thank you! These are certainly legitimate concerns. Trouble is that, even though the Lord has given us wonderful resources to utilize, we tend not to exhibit good stewardship. The Lord gave us the wherewithal to husband our resources, and we tend to do all the wrong things. So just maybe there is a day of reckoning coming, a time in which the weather will wreak havoc upon us all -- at least those young enough to be alive in say 2050. At that point the flat-earthers and unbelievers in climate change will have to gulp and give up their silly ideologically motivated beliefs. There is actually plenty of water available -- in the ocean. The problem lies in getting that water desalinated, which is typically too expensive. One rather easy solution, which is an expensive investment (but which pays big dividends over time), involves a massive project to bring water from the ocean to the mountain overlooking the Salton Sea, which is below sea level. That requires an aquaduct, tunneling, and creation of a hydroelectric spillway of the type we have on Boulder Dam (Hoover Dam), which was an equally massive project, but which has continued to pay huge dividends to the present time. The electricity produced by such a Salton Sea Overlook Hydroelectric project could be used for some Southern California homes and industry, but the main purpose and benefit would be the cheaply powered desalination plant at that location, just beneath the electric generators. The water could be piped to various areas of Southern California, and some allowed to enter the Salton Sea. This would reduce the need for water from the great California Aquaduct, which brings water from Sacramento to Los Angeles. More water would be available for agriculture in the Central Valley, and Colorado River water would no longer be needed by California -- thus making more available for Nevada and Arizona, which are also suffering a drought. However, Jerry Brown and the rest of the yokels in Sacramento will continue to ignore such significant ideas until it is too late. Had Schwarzenegger bothered to push such a project, he would remain a real hero (rather than a fake film hero) for the next century. People would already be talking about his visionary qualities with awe, and there would not now be a water shortage in California. “Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been'.” Edited January 29, 2014 by Robert F. Garden Girl Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 IMO our weather tends to be cyclical... and the extremes we are now experiencing may have happened before, but perhaps several hundred years ago or even longer. But certainly not in our memory... so when we say something is the worst in recorded history, that may be in regard to our recorded history but not in our natural history...There have always been extremes, particularly droughts, in various parts of the country at various times... Think the "Dust Bowl" which was caused not only by drought but by man's farming practices. We learned from that and changed agricultural methods and there was never another dust bowl approaching that magnitude. Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath" was very real... jcake indicates in central California they are trying to manage their water resources as they try to withstand the very serious drought conditions... When I worked at UC Riverside as part of the Agric Experiment Station, there were numerous research projects on managing our resources for more efficient, safer farming practices, as well as managing natural resources such as water. We've learned a great deal and changed in many ways so hopefully when the drought does end, and it may take several years like the Dust Bowl conditions, we will be able to resume and again make the central valleys of Calif the producers they've been... GG Well President Woodruff did prophesy that: "Yea the day will come after your Father & these Prophets And Apostles are dead and gone into the spirit world you will have the privilege of going into the Tower of a glorious Temple built until the Name of the Most High God /East of us upon the Logan Bench/ and while you stand in the Tower of that Temple and your Eyes survey this glorious valley filled with Cities & village occupied [with?] tens of thousand of the Latter day saints, you will then Call to mind This visitation of Presidet Young & his Company. You will say that was in the day when Presidets B[enson?] & Maugn presided over us. That was the day when Presidet Young & the Apostles were with us. That was before New York was destroyed by an Earthquake. It was before Boston was swept into the sea by the sea heaving itself beyond its bounds. It was before Albany was destroyed By fire. Yea at that time you will remember the scenes of this day. Treasure them up & forget them Not." WW Journal Aug 22, 1863 And BY said it was a revelation and would be fulfilled.

ERayR Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 It sure is.SEE http://climatecrocks.com/2014/01/07/new-video-climate-jetstream-polar-vortex/ At first it was global warning but when that didn't quite work it became climate change. It is somebody trying to make money off of normal weather cycles. In the fifty's to the seventies we were getting dire warnings about a new coming ice age then as the cycle progressed it became global warming. 1

Thank you!In The Dalles, Oregon is an interpretive center along I-5, that has a video that the makers insist that the tilt of the Earth, which has three cycles, two besides the one that most of us know of that makes the seasons. I was up there a couple weeks ago, but it is a fun trip, so Inshallah I will go again and this time pay closer attention. It appeared that things like Global Warming have less of an effect than these cycles of the tilt of the Earth. It really does not make any difference if the weather is crazy because of a judgment from Allah SWT or if it is just a cycle. What ever is coming, we can not stop, but we can make our lives as pleasing to Heavenly Father as possible., inshallah. 1
slamarwi Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 It is something I've hoped to see all my life. However, it seems like it's mostly hype. And for the time being people find ways to exploit, market and capitalize on the fears of others. I have a feeling the earth has had just about enough of our shenanigans and climate change will end up being one of the least of our worries. SLW
Freedom Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I am rather mystified by the unwillingness to accept climate change and global warming when the causes, or if you like the alleged causes, are so patently and obviously bad. I find the rejection of the science behind climate change to be on the same intellectual level of the rejection of evolution. Obviously, pollution is a bad thing. obviously it has a very negative affect on our planet. Yes, temperature changes are cyclical, but to suggest that we are not harming the planet is irresponsible. 1

I don't think anyone denies "climate change" or that the climate does change. I don't think that anyone even disputes that there are green house gases. And that those can indeed increase the over all temperature. But I think the issues are how much does it actually affect the weather. Is what is really being talked about really over concern or is it about a convenient way to push a political agenda? Right now I think it is safe to say that there has been no warming since 1998. In fact it seems to be getting colder. That is why it went from global warming to "climate change". I knew the gig was up when that happened. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Green house gases cause warming. Sure. But they also cause cooling? OK. I just don't buy that. If we want to have a discussion on pollution I am ready to have that conversation. But doing all of that under the guise of "Global Warming" or "Global Climate Change" just is not the way to do it. I recently heard that on a list of "burning issues" for the US (in terms of politics), global warming was dead last right behind amnesty or immigration reform. Anyway I really don't care to get into this again for the 20th time. Queue music for the TSS to come in and rebut me. Edited January 30, 2014 by Mola Ram Suda Ram

The people with money on the line are the climate change deniers. Why would anyone want to make severe economic changes that are in many ways to detrimental to the economy as a whole? There is little political leverage in backing unpleasant truths.I also note that climate change deniers are unwilling to put their money where their mouth is. Climate change theories suggest some land may become less valuable or even underwater. If they actually believed their denials they should be buying it all up on the cheap. They are not.Climate change has always been a better term. While the trend is to warming it is not a simple everything goes up a degree. Climate is incredibly complex.
Calm Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Wait...they don't believe things will change so they should be buying land based on the change theory's prediction the value of that and will go up?...I am missing something here. 1
Freedom Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/ The evidence says otherwise. Yes, it does tend to get rather political, and yes some regions have seen a drop in temperature, but by and large, we have seen a steady increase in temperature and there is no evidence available that suggests green gas emissions have no effect on gobal temperatures. I lived in California in the 1980s. It was a miserable place to live. I have seen capital cities in China where the air is so polluted it is not even possible to breath. Pollution is caused by by greed. Regardless of the causes, we need to dramatically reduce our pollutants. China's industrialization is destroying the planet as it pumps out cheap consumer products for the North American market. Products made in factories where human rights abuses are staggering and horrifying.
