Duncan Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 http://www.ldschurchnews.com/articles/63256/New-mission-presidents-by-area-for-2013.htmlPretty exciting! 1

Brian 2.0 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 interesting. The number of missionaries hasn't increased dramatically though, right? I'd say this is a concerted effort to contract the size of each mission, providing less missionaries per Mission President. Rather than a huge boom in missionary work. It's a good move either way. Mission Presidents have too many missionaries and areas under their wings as is and this will help provide a better relationships between President and missionary and more knowledge of each area.

Hadn't read Calmoriah's article link. Perhaps is a little of both.
Brian 2.0 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 The # of missionaries will settle to a new standard, probably higher than the previous standard, but less than it is right now. Currently you have 18 year olds AND 19 year males coming in. And 19, 20, and 21 year old girls going in. So the total number will settle.
Scott Lloyd Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 http://www.ldschurch...a-for-2013.htmlPretty exciting! You are quick on the draw! We only just put that up. 2
Duncan Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 You are quick on the draw! We only just put that up.what can I tellya! I am just that kind of man! 1

Rather than a huge boom in missionary work.Where did you get that idea?In the interview I did with him for my story, Elder Evans said that for the first time in years, the number of missionaries is now above 60,000, though he wouldn't say how far it is above that number, because the First Presidency hasn't yet announced it. 1
Damien the Leper Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Holy smokes! Arizona is getting a Scottsdale and Gilbert mission to go with Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe and Tucson.

See my story. 1
Damien the Leper Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 TWO NEW ARIZONA MISSIONS!REPRESENT!!!!I think the Mesa Mission may lose the Snowflake Temple because of this. If that happens then Tempe will be the only mission that doesn't have a temple in it.Phoenix-Phoenix TempleMesa-Mesa TempleTucson-Gila TempleGilbert-Gilbert TempleScottsdale-Snowflake Temple
rongo Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I think the Mesa Mission may lose the Snowflake Temple because of this. If that happens then Tempe will be the only mission that doesn't have a temple in it.Although . . . Tempeans don't have to go all that far to find a temple . . . I live an hour southwest of Phoenix, so attending the temple for an endowment session is a five-hour trip. It's exciting to have lots of missionaries and missions, but a little sad, too. When I was in the Hamburg Mission in the mid 1990s, there were six in Germany and a German-speaking mission in Switzerland and Austria. Now, the entire German-speaking world is covered by two: Berlin, and "Alpine" (covering Bavaria, Austria, and Switzerland). I can't even imagine the logistics of covering that many units with ca. 100-150 missionaries ----- many areas will have very little missionary presence. 1

South of Goodyear or Buckeye?
Kenngo1969 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Holy smokes! Arizona is getting a Scottsdale and Gilbert mission to go with Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe and Tucson. That's singular, Val. And no, there won't be any "Holy Smoke" until the new Pope is announced! (Sorry. I had to do it! ) 1
Duncan Posted February 22, 2013 Author Posted February 22, 2013 If you don't mind me asking, where abouts in Arizona do you live? South of Goodyear or Buckeye?we just got a missionary from Goodyear, AZ in our ward just yestarday 1
rongo Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 If you don't mind me asking, where abouts in Arizona do you live? South of Goodyear or Buckeye?Unicorporated Pinal County, south of Maricopa. Buckeye is on the other side of the Estrella Mountains from us.
Damien the Leper Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 If you don't mind me asking, where abouts in Arizona do you live? South of Goodyear or Buckeye? He lives in a town called Maricopa...I think. It is off of I-10 east toward Tucson.
Mayan Elephant Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Holy smokes! Arizona is getting a Scottsdale and Gilbert mission to go with Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe and Tucson.that is, by far, the funniest thing i have read today. i laughed really hard at that.
cinepro Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 If you don't mind me asking, where abouts in Arizona do you live? South of Goodyear or Buckeye?Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.Jane: Goodyear?Frank: No, the worst. The Naked Gun (1988) 2
halconero Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 He lives in a town called Maricopa...I think. It is off of I-10 east toward Tucson.Ah, just barely outside the Phoenix Mission. And holy snap...That's 5 missions based out of the Phoenix metropolitan area...it's starting to look like a Utah style mission there folks.Just for those who are curious...the Arizona missions have had a lot of growth in the past few years. During my time in Phoenix we baptized over a thousand people each year for three reporting years in a row and our retention rate was around 87%, the Mesa and Tempe missions in the Phoenix metro area had similar, if slightly lower (sarcasm and joking all around!) statistics. 2

I can't even imagine the logistics of covering that many units with ca. 100-150 missionaries ----- many areas will have very little missionary presence.A while ago Italy went from four missions to two and the French speaking missions combined from four to two last year. That is a lot of ground to cover. The mission presidents must have to travel constantly to go to all the zone conferences and I think they also have between 100-150 missionaries.
Calm Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 TWO NEW ARIZONA MISSIONS!REPRESENT!!!!Got to ask the significance of "REPRESENT!!!!".
Damien the Leper Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 Got to ask the significance of "REPRESENT!!!!".He served in the Phoenix Mission. He was an AP in a YSA ward I used to attend. When he says represent he means that AZ is stepping up and showing its presence in the US mission field. 1
