President Boyd K. Packer Talks Straight

It is threads like this that may provide indication, via the position we take, as to whence our respective moral compasses may be calibrated--whether centered towards pop culture, or towards Christ.

It also gives indication of the strength of our moral convictions, or our inclination to socially capitulate and appease and go with the flow.

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

And comments like this give indication that the writers of them assume that those with differing understandings are not deeply and prayerfully and diligently pondering and studying out those issues, seeking confirmation and guidance through revelation, and must certainly be more interested in popularity than discipleship.

Wade, I want to give you the benefit of the doubt here. To do that, I need to assume you don't recognize how condescending that comes across.

President Packer's talk is as usual exactly right. Anyone with the spirit of the Lord can tell that... sorry I am so judgmental, but I am in the habit of defending those who I consider to be prophets, seers, and revelators. I find his doctrine consistent with everything the Church has taught for the past 180 plus years. Some may try to find loopholes in the scriptures, but if so they are living in a fantasy world... because no scripture either ancient or modern can be twisted to say that homosexual acts are anything other than gross immorality. It is an abomination, that is the only thing it can be called and an ancient scripture sums it up thus:

" Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God."

(Old Testament | Leviticus 18:22-30)

It is amusing how my intentionally generic and common-sensical comments can be taken so personally by certain parties. Perhaps they don't realize how ironically presumptuous their reaction may be, and tells us more about them than me.

Thanks, -Wade Englund-

That isn't my prerogative. It is between you and whatever is true north on your compass. :)

To be fair it did come across as patronizing and condescending.

I got shades of this guy from the post:

Nehor, do you think you can give me an estimate of the time you plan on signing off tonight so I can stop hanging around waiting for your next sidewinder to hit, please?

No idea. I'm working on a project and am keeping myself sane posting here. It will be done when it is done and then I may or may not sign off or stay up all night eating ice cream and wasting my life.

This post rules. Should I go back and read the rest of the thread or will it make my brain hurt?

I probably forgot what this thread was about. Something about the Green Bay Packers views on morality and the exegesis of words used to describe Greek sodomite relationships. Something like that.

Probably. I'm out of ice cream and I'm sad.

Well, I'd offer you some but I am not quite crazy enough yet for an overnight road trip.

Fine. Hey, this thread has a star by it now. Isn't that exciting?

Was Paul speaking as a Prophet in that passage, or was he advocating an inequitable tradition of the fathers? His argument seems to be that homosexuality is "unnatural", but that's obviously not the case since homosexuality does, in fact, occur in nature.

Oh boy. Let's not get started on all the disgusting things that occur in nature.

That means you either posted in the thread or are hallucinating or both.

Oh, I thought that meant it was super popular.

Hmmm. Testing's Nehor's theory....

edit: Yep, the post indeed has a star by it now.

I am also out of ice cream. Nehor, if you decide to make a cross-country tour of it, I prefer the new Blue Bunny White Chocolate Macademia nut ice cream. It is delicious to the .... nevermind.
